Depression and Anxiety - Blessings in Disguise

My name is Mikkela and I am currently working as a dentist in the northern part of Jutland.

And I was asked to do a presentation on health, about mental health, And I am very excited to share this with you.

And I called it Depression and Anxiety Blessings in Disguise because today we will recognize that instead of fighting these things on our own.

Really, this is something God allows in our lives to help us see something that we really need to see.

I think we should start with a prayer and then I'll tell you a little bit more about my own story also.

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you so much for the life that you've given us.

I thank you the most for the love that you have given us.

And I pray, Lord, that you will help us understand this love and also understand the law that you made to govern us.

Help us to learn how to govern ourselves, to gain self-control, and to love like you love.

I pray that you may open our minds and help us understand all the things that you have in store for us.

So, I grew up in the church and I was baptized when I was 12 years old because I knew that I wanted to follow Jesus.

Back then I'm not sure that I exactly knew what it was to follow Jesus, but I was very excited and I really wanted to follow Jesus.

Many things became theory for me and I just came to the church, but didn't really know why I was there.

And When I got to the age of 21, I was born again, reconverted.

And from there I went straight into a deep depression.

Which is not normally the way it goes when you meet Jesus, because you get very happy.

I was very happy, I felt very safe, because I knew that despite of this depression, Jesus had found me and I was on the right way.

But I was very depressed, And I didn't know how to get out of it and I went to the church and the church didn't know how to help me out of it.

And I went to God but I didn't know how to ask him how, well I know how to ask, but I didn't know how to find the answer from God.

And later came also, no, I think actually at the same time anxiety.

Anxiety comes and go a little bit faster than depression.

Depression lasts for long periods and anxiety maybe sometimes shorter and then you have a little bit of anxiety, sometimes a lot, and then you go into depression, and then anxiety, and then depression, and sometimes you're just deeply depressed even though you have anxiety.

So today, I really want us to understand why do we become depressed.

Because I believe, even though I've doubted many times, I believe I was born again back then.

But we need to understand what happens because Christians should not stay depressed.

I will go through some of the laws, or at least the basic law, that we need to live according to and I'll help you and I myself because I'm learning while I'm doing this I never did a presentation on this before I will learn also and we will learn how not to break this law and destroy ourselves and so I think as I shared I went to the church no 1 could tell me how to get out.

And this is a Bible verse I found in Hosea, or I don't know if I found it.

It says, my People are destroyed for lack of knowledge.

And I believe that this lack of knowledge, if you read further on, it's a lack of knowledge of the law of God.

We read the law and we think we understand the law, but really we don't know how to put it into practice.

This is the law that God created for us to function under.

This is the law that governs everything that God ever created.

And when Adam was created, he was created to take care of the earth.

So he goes to God to take what he needs and he passes it on to someone else.

And nature takes from what Adam gives and from what God gives, of course, and it gives it on, then someone else takes and gives, and someone else take and give.

And the only thing today which does not work according to this circle of beneficence is the heart of man.

The heart of man is the only thing who thinks he can live for himself.

God never created anyone to live for himself, but the heart of man is very deceived and he thinks that he can live from himself and for himself.

Now we need to look at the functions and the need of humanity to understand this.

So here we have some physical needs and we have some spiritual needs.

And we want to ask ourselves, physical needs, who is responsible to fill them?

And air, the air I breathe, can I produce the air?

Our love, righteousness, security, liberty, peace, and joy and harmony.

And we all need these things in different measures.

I need a lot of harmony and a lot of security especially.

I need those other things also but those are the 2 that I recognize is in my spirit that is most urgent for me to have around me.

Then we want to know, who is responsible to fill my physical needs?

Who is responsible to fill my physical...

Who is responsible that my spiritual needs are fulfilled?

Okay, so if God is responsible, What happens if my spiritual needs are not fulfilled?

So is it God's fault when our physical or spiritual needs are not fulfilled?

So is God responsible for my spiritual needs?

Then who is responsible for my physical, my spiritual needs?

Medical Missionary Work Made Practical in the Context of the Third Angel’s Message

My name is Alexander Jensen and I'm going to talk about, as you can see, medical missionary work and the third angel's message.

So before we start let's just bow our heads shortly for a word of prayer that God will bless us.

Father in heaven we thank you so much for this conference, this ASI conference.

We thank you for the many blessings that we could receive already.

And now as we try to understand the mission that you have for this church, the message you want us to give and the way we should give it, that people may understand it.

We ask for your clear word that we may understand what our part is, Father, in this work.

We pray for these gifts and we thank you in Jesus' name.

So, If you have any questions, we will have time in the end to answer some questions.

If you burn in with a question during the talk here, of course, it would be very nice if you can ask them.

So because it is a workshop, it's not a sermon.

But I've tried to take a powerpoint with us, with me here, because for all of us to see the texts clearly.

So in the third angel's message, in the conclusion, the last verse of the message, we have a very, very important verse and that is verse 12 and we will study this verse very meticulously, very in detail today and we will see from this text that medical missionary work and righteousness by faith is all included directly in this third angels message from this verse.

So here we have the verse it says, here is the patience of the saints here are they that keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus so let me ask you how many characteristics do you see here from the group of people that will be faithful in the end.

Because these people, they are in contrast to the beginning of the third angel's message which says that some people will take the mark of the beast and worship the beast, right?

And then you have this group which is in contrast and they do these things.

So how many characteristics can we find from this group?

They keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.

And we will now go into shortly these 4 points.

So patience, this word that is used, it comes from a Greek word.

I'm not a, you know, a theologian or anything.

I just, you know, Some of these apps today, they have the Strongs, so you can go in to look in the Greek.

So I went in to look in the Greek, and then in my little app, it's a really good app actually, because you can click on the word, and then there comes an option up where you can click on every other text in the Bible where the same word is used.

So the Greek word for this word patients that these people have is hypomone or hypomeno.

And I made a little study about this, and of course we cannot go through all of it, because there are about, or Exactly 47 times these words are used, or 1 of them is used.

But in general, this word means continuance, perseverance, forbearance, stability, and of course patience.

And when you go through the Bible and you look up, I would encourage you to go through these texts.

You will be so invigorated and build up in your faith when you look at these verses from the Bible.

But in general you can see that this word patience, when you have patience, it is connected with a deeper experience with God through trials.

It is connected to experiencing fulfillment of God's promises, they persevered and then they experienced God's promises being fulfilled.

It is connected with with waiting patiently for something and it is connected with doing good works and obtaining eternal life.

So we can see, I would like to have shown you all these verses but then we would not have time.

But please try to look these verses up when you come home.

And it is also connected, or It tells us in the Bible very clearly that the way we receive patience is we get it from God and from His Word.

It says in Romans 4, 15 and Colossians 1.

It says that we get it from his word and we get it from God, the God of patience.

Okay, so but is there in the Bible a condition for us receiving patience?

So there are certainly several conditions.

How many of you have heard the letter of Peter?

In Danish we don't express it the same way and it's even translated a little differently.

But in 2 Peter 1 we have Peter saying that in our Christian experience first We start with this and then we add this and then we add this and then we add this and then we add this.

So Peter he says here, besides this, giving all diligence, add, so we have an addition, add to your faith virtue.

To virtue, knowledge, and to knowledge, temperance, And to temperance, what?

Okay, so in this letter, what comes just before patience?

So in the ladder, God wants us first to have faith.

So in order for us to experience patience in our lives, we must first be temperate.

So temperance, what is the word temperance?

It is the word ekratia or ekratia and it means a person who can control his passions and his or her appetite.
