Let's pray and then we'll begin our message.

Sweet Jesus, thank you for blessing us for the last 2 evenings, and I'm praying for a double portion of your spirit this evening.

I don't have what they need, but you can.

I pray that you'd bind all the forces of darkness.

And I pray that you would speak with power, conviction, and clarity.

What is it that gives us hope as a human race?

How is God going to make all things right?

And tonight we're also going to look at the provision of man after they fell.

We alluded to this Last night, if you remember from Genesis chapter 3, the fact that whenever Adam and Eve sinned, they were separated from God and they also were separated even from each other.

The first instance of marital strife happened in the Garden of Eden at the fall.

His wife is deflecting and blaming the serpents.

Sin does that, it drives wedges of separation.

And Isaiah, the prophet Isaiah speaks into this space.

In Isaiah 59, verse 2, says, "'But your iniquities have separated you from your God.'" And what's implied here is the fact that sin causes the separation.

Now, some people on a cursor reading this may think that God runs from us when we sin, but that's not what happens.

When we sin, we are pushing ourselves away from God.

And we saw that even in Genesis 3 last night, that when Adam and Eve sinned and God came to greet them in the garden, what did Adam and Eve do?

When we sinned, we separated ourselves from God, and since God is our true source of life, we are doomed for death.

But God is not happy with the current state of things, and He addresses this in just a moment.

A wage is what you deserve as a result of the works that you have performed.

In fact, in Isaiah we're told that all of our righteousnesses are as filthy rags.

We bring nothing to the table in our broken and fallen state, but yet God still sees something of value in us, which is what's, I think that's just so amazing.

So what is due and owed because of the works that we perform is death, and that's the logical result of separation from God.

But God's had enough of that by the time we get to the book of Exodus.

In Exodus chapter 25 and verse 8, God says to let them build me a sanctuary.

Now, do you think that addresses the separation problem?

Absolutely, if God wants to dwell among us, that implies he's trying to get rid of the separation.

And so God wants to be restored to fellowship with his people, and the first step is to give them something that will show them what it's going to cost to achieve that reunion, and to help them see what their role is going to be as well.

So there's something that happens, there are multiple things that happen in the sanctuary service, right, in the rites and ceremonies of the sanctuary service that will prepare the people to be reunited with God.

It's going to teach us lessons on what God Himself is going to have to do to be reunited with His people.

We're told this in Hebrews chapter 1 and verse 9 that you have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness, speaking of Jesus.

Therefore, God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness more than your companions.

So the Bible says that Jesus does have hatred for something, and it's sin.

He hates sin because sin is what separates him from the people he loves so much.

And beloved, God has a big problem on his hands.

The very thing that God hates the most is living inside of the people that He loves the most.

What I hate the most is living inside of what I love the most.

I want them to be free from that so that when I deal with sin it's not going to touch them.

How do we separate the object of His love from the object of His hatred?

It's going to require very careful surgery and that surgery happens in the sanctuary.

There are things that are taught and observed and done in the sanctuary that are going to help to cause the separation from sin, to eliminate the separation between God and man.

So the very place that God asked to be built so that he could be reunited with his people, right?

God said, let them build me a sanctuary that I may dwell among them, and the surgery is going to happen in the very place that God said, build this so I can be with you once again.

So it should be clear already then that we need to pay very close attention to the sanctuary because it shows us how we'll be reunited with God once again.

So here's kind of a mock-up of the actual sanctuary service and I won't be able to point, I can, you can kind of see a little red laser beam here, but in the land of the sanctuary service, there were articles of furniture that all served a purpose, right?

So you had the front gate, okay, the front entrance, we'll come back to that in a moment, and then you had the bronze altar, that's where they actually sacrificed the animal, where they burned the sacrifice, you know, the animal that had been sacrificed.

Then they had the bronze laver here that was full of water for the priest to wash and so forth.

When they entered into the actual sanctuary, it had a candlestick, it had a table of bread, and then there was an altar of incense here and there was a veil that separated the most holy place from the holy place and that that was a place that people could not go, the most holy places, a very holy and sacred space that could only be entered once a year and even before that happened there were ceremonies for that and we'll cover that in a future message together.

We're not going to deal with that tonight, but that's kind of the big picture of the furniture and how things were arranged in the sanctuary service.

Okay, so just kind of give you a big picture of that.

But then after we get out of that section there, I want to go to Leviticus 1 and talk about what happened, what were those sacrifices that took place in the sanctuary.

Leviticus 1, verse 1, it says, him from the tabernacle of meeting saying, Speak to the children of Israel and say to them, When anyone brings an offering to the Lord, you shall bring your offering of the livestock, of the herd, and of the flock.

If his offering is a burnt sacrifice of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish.

He shall offer it of his own free will the door of the tabernacle of meeting before the Lord.

Then he shall put his hand on the head of the burnt offering and it will be accepted on his behalf to make atonement for him.

He shall kill the bull before the Lord, and the priests, Aaron's sons, shall bring the blood and sprinkle the blood all around on the altar that is by the door of the tabernacle of meeting.

So if we go back 2 spots here, 2 slides here, they would sprinkle that blood of that sacrifice actually on this veil, on the altar and on this veil, and it's very fascinating because let's give an example of what somebody went through.

Let's say your name is Bob and you lived in this Hebrew sanctuary neighborhood, if you will, and let's say you live on the north, the south, the east, or the west, any of these tents here, when somebody sinned, they would actually have to take basically kind of the walk of shame from their tent all the way down around the edge of the tabernacle, and they would come to the gate here.

And just imagine, when you walk out of your tent and you've got a lamb with you, you're not taking your dog for a walk, right?

And as they're watching Bob and surmising in their mind what he did and what went on and all of that stuff.

Bob is gonna have to just tune that out and he goes to the sanctuary.

And when Bob gets there, he confesses over the animal, not to the priest, he confesses over the animal what he has done.

And the animal will now kind of be the embodiment of his sin.

He's confessing what he has done and transferring that to the animal.

The priest take care of all the messy stuff after the fact and burn the thing on the altar, but he has to take its life himself.
