The Midnight Cry and the Loud Cry

It's a pleasure to be here with you this evening.

And we are not going to let the devil put a stop to the work that God has in store for us this weekend, amen?

I can guarantee you, based on what has happened leading up to this weekend, and even what's happened here Tonight, we can know that God has a special plan in store for this weekend, amen?

And so it is my privilege to be with you tonight.

I've never started a sermon at 930 at night.

God is going to provide the strength and the power and we are going to receive a blessing tonight.

Before we start, I would like to open with a word of prayer.

Father in heaven, you are so gracious to us.

You have brought us here to Camp Belandra for a weekend together.

We've come from all over Trinidad and Tobago for messages to help us be prepared for the coming of Jesus Christ.

We want to redeem the time and I pray Lord that this weekend you would help us to gain an experience with you that will prepare us for your coming.

How many of you believe that Jesus is coming soon?

I truly believe that we are living on the brink of eternity.

Do you know why you came here this weekend?

Why is it that you came to Belandra this weekend?

I can guarantee you that God has a plan for why you are here.

You're not just here to have a nice social time with your friends.

God brought you here because He has messages in store for you this weekend that are gonna challenge your faith to prepare you for the coming of Christ.

You know, we don't have much time left in this world.

And we don't have much time left to mess around with God anymore, amen?

God wants to use us to do a special work in the last days.

And my question to you tonight is, do you know who you are as a people?

Do we understand who we are as a Seventh-day Adventist people?

We have a prophetic identity and a prophetic mission that goes with that identity.

Are you living your lives to fulfill the identity and mission that God has given to us prophetically?

You know, as we look to the future to see what will happen, as the final events of Earth's history come to their close, the way to understand what will happen is to look back to our history, and I'm reminded of the quote from Life Sketches, page 196, by Ellen White, where she says, we have nothing to fear for the future, except as we shall forget the way the Lord has led us and his teaching in our past history.

You know the thing that we often overlook in that statement is his teaching.

We'll say God has led us in the past, but we forget the teachings that He used to lead us along the way.

And God has a message that He has for us today and He has given us a history that helps us to know what will happen in the future.

And the title for my message tonight is the midnight cry and the loud cry.

And do you know they're not the same thing?

What we're gonna look at tonight is the Midnight Cry and the Loud Cry.

And we are going to start off in Revelation chapter 10.

How many of you know Revelation chapter 10?

I guess it's hard to turn in your Bibles without lies.

Revelation chapter 10 is the chapter in the Bible that identifies us as God's people prophetically with what our message and mission is.

And in Revelation chapter 10 verse 1 we read, and I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven clothed with a cloud and a rainbow was upon his head and his face was as it were the sun and his feet as pillars of fire, and he had in his hand a little book open, and he said, His right foot upon the sea and his left foot upon the earth.

The mighty angel that came down from heaven, clothed with a cloud, a rainbow on His head, His face as the sun, His feet as pillars of fire.

If you go to Revelation chapter 1, the very same description you find of Jesus Christ.

So here you have in Revelation 10 Jesus Christ coming down from heaven as a mighty angel to start a new movement.

And he starts this new movement with a little book in his hand.

This little book which is open is the book of Daniel.

And specifically, it is the prophecy of the 2300 days that had been sealed until the time of the end.

Now if you don't understand all of that prophetic understanding, I encourage you to keep studying to understand that.

But what happened was after 1798 when the time of the end began, Revelation 10 comes into history prophetically as Jesus, as the mighty angel comes down from heaven and says, the book of Daniel is open to be studied.

And do you realize that we are the only denomination that understands the message in the book of Daniel?

And do you realize that the message in the book of Daniel and the message in the book of Revelation gives us our prophetic identity and mission?

And do you realize that Jesus himself as the mighty angel is pointing us to the study of these prophetic messages so that we will understand our identity which will drive our mission as a people.

And it is too late in earth's history to be ignoring the study of prophecy just before the coming of the Lord.

It is time to get down into the books of Daniel and Revelation to open them up, to dig deeply so that we will know what God's message is for our time.

And I can guarantee you 1 of the reasons why the devil is fighting so hard with the power and everything else that's happened today, He doesn't want this message where we understand our prophetic mission and identity to be understood.

So what we are hearing tonight is of critical importance and I'm so glad that each 1 of us are here.

Do you realize what happened with Revelation 10?

Revelation 10, as this book was opened, do you realize that there was a point in history where the books of Daniel and Revelation began to be understood by God's people?

Who were the people that studied the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation and came to an understanding of the 2300 day prophecy to understand a prophetic identity and mission?

Have you heard of the Millerite movement?

Revelation 10 describes the rise of the Second Advent movement through the Millerites.

Notice what happens in verse 8 of Revelation chapter 10.

John is listening to the angel speak to him in Revelation 10 verse 8 it says, and the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again and said, go and take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel, which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth.

And I went unto the angel and said unto him, Give me the little book.

And he said unto me, Take it and eat it up, and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey.

And I took the little book out of the angel's hand and ate it up, and it was in my mouth sweet as honey.

And as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter." Do you know what that's talking about?

What I'm going to show next is the history of the great disappointment.

And I would dare say that the story that I'm about to tell you with respect to the great disappointment is a story that many of us do not really understand.

And I hope that as you hear it tonight, it will instill within you a desire to have this kind of experience for yourself.

In the 1840s, 1830s and 40s, William Miller was a man used of God who studied the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation.

And William Miller came to the understanding, even in the 1820s, that Jesus would come in the year about 1843.

And that was about 20 years away when he first discovered this.

Now, how would you feel if you were led in the study of scripture by the spirit of God, and you came to the understanding that Jesus was really going to come in your lifetime.

Do you know what it did to William Miller?

It gave him overwhelming joy, because he realized that his dearest and best friend would be coming to take him home.

And he kept studying, and he kept studying, and he kept studying, and he started to preach these messages to the churches in his area.

And I'm not going to give you the whole story, but he started preaching for 9 years.

He went all over New England preaching that Jesus was coming around 1843.

And something very interesting happened in 1840.

He was invited to 1 of the largest cities in the United States, the Boston, Massachusetts, where he preached at 1 of the largest churches in Massachusetts.

The pastor of that church, his name was Joshua Himes.

William Miller preaches that Jesus is coming in about 3 years.

And after the sermon he said to William Miller, do you really believe this?
