Overcoming: Gaining the Victory

My name is Chad Kruiser and my wife, Fadia, we will both be presenting together the seminar I'll begin and we'll go back and forth basically.

Just to give you a little background of what we do, Fadia and I have been in ministry for about 9 years, almost 10, and we've been traveling around, we've been consistently putting on evangelistic meetings full-time throughout the United States and Europe and we speak kind of all over the place, but what was happening was as we were doing evangelistic meetings we were meeting a lot of people.

You know, it's been historically popular to do stop smoking classes in our prophecy series and so forth, but I don't know if you've noticed, but people don't only struggle with smoking, right?

I mean, People come to our meetings and they don't just struggle with smoking.

We did the seminars on stop smoking, but we began to realize people have all kinds of addictions, whether they're to a substance like drugs or whether it's something that they're just struggling with, maybe a personal habit that other people wouldn't think of as an addiction, but they know it's personally something that's destroying their life.

And so, that kind of, while working with people, we kind of saw the need of that, And things began to spring out of this while we were working with people.

We began to add more and more to a seminar and it became what is now the Overcoming Seminar.

So we're gonna share with you mainly what is our first day of the Overcoming Seminar.

We've just basically added 1 other thing into it that comes from 1 of the other meetings.

But it's kind of a progressional seminar.

We can only go, you know, since we only have the 1 hour today, we'll do our best in what we can.

But you're not going to get everything, But that's basically what we do.

We put on seminars about overcoming habits and addictions, which we generally do in tandem.

Normally after an evangelistic meeting, immediately we start, like the day after, the day, like maybe 2 days after, we start a five-day overcoming seminar.

And generally most of the seminar ends up coming out to the overcoming seminar after the prophecy seminar.

We also do seminars on creation versus evolution.

And we do, I'm going to show you just a very quick clip of, we produce documentaries and you're not going to be able to hear it very well but I can just kind of talk about it a little bit as it's going on.

We have a ministry called Anchor Point Films and we go around to archaeologists, theologians, and scholars and we make documentaries that look like what people are already used to watching on Discovery Channel or History Channel.

But instead of being skeptical like you're always going to see on the regular mainstream media, what we do is we're basically going point by point through the Adventist message.

So we get testimonies from all kinds of different people.

Just last night a businessman from Chicago called us up, actually a suburb of Chicago, called us up and he said, I just gave this, the first 3 DVDs to, he was at the dentist, he gave it to his dental hygienist.

He said, she called him up sometime later and she said, I've learned so much from these DVDs.

She said, I want to come to your church and I want to be baptized.

She's probably not ready to be baptized yet, but the point, you know, the Lord is using them.

They're something that, It just looks like what they're already used to watching on TV.

So it goes back and forth between different people like Michael Hosel, who's an archaeologist.

We're going through the whole Adventist message.

We have students on secular campuses getting these out, doctors to their patients, dentists to their patients.

They're called Scripture Mysteries Documentary Series.

I just want to let you guys, you folks know what we do and now we'll get started with the Overcoming Seminar.

But let's bow our heads for a word of prayer.

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the time to come together.

Every single 1 of us probably has something that we like to let go of.

We have some character flaw, something, some part of our character that we realize needs change.

And we're not saved by that change, we're saved through, by faith, by the grace of you, Father.

It's not by our own strength, but Father I pray that now as we look into your Word, as we talk about science, that you would teach us, that you would help us to be overcomers in the areas of our lives that we truly know that we need to overcome.

And some we're going to learn about new things that maybe we didn't even realize we had a problem with.

But we pray that you would touch our hearts and draw us near to you and make us victorious.

Revelation chapter 21, verse 6 and 7 say, And He said to me, it is done.

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.

To him who thirsts I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely.

He who overcomes will inherit all things.

Revelation tells us that Jesus tells us that what?

He says, He that overcomes shall inherit all things.

It is not the overcoming itself that enables you to have eternal life.

It's not because you've done something good that you get eternal life.

It is because Jesus died on the cross to save you from your sins and you accept Him as your Savior and His perfect life stands in the place of your despicable life and He takes your place.

I want to be very clear in the issue of salvation by works.

There is only 1 way to be saved by your works.

The Bible says in Romans chapter 6, 23, for the wages of sin is what?

Now if the wages of sin is death, think it through.

Well if you have sinned, you deserve to what?

So the only way to be righteous then by your works would be to, number 1, you'd have to die, and number 2, you'd have to resurrect yourself and then live the rest of your life perfectly.

Then you would deserve, then you would have righteousness by works, right?

But you can't do that, so the only way that you can be righteous is to be righteous by faith, right?

So this is not a seminar on, you know, good works will get you into heaven.

But it is a seminar on how God can give you victory and it's not the victory that gets you into heaven, but God as a gift along with salvation wants to make us overcomers.

This is not some kind of, you know, good acts get us into heaven.

I want to clarify that before we go any further.

You know, we're talking about in this seminar some things to overcome.

And we don't have time to, man, that would have been a good 1 to go into today, but we didn't put the slides in today.

But there's 2 different kinds of stress at least.

There is active stress and passive stress.

And sometimes stress can actually be good for you.

It can actually bump up your immune system.

It's only when it's unusually prolonged does it become a negative factor and actually it becomes harmful to your body.

We don't have time to go into that in detail today, but we don't want to be chronically living in stress.

It actually can bring about different diseases.

Number 2, we want to overcome anger or lack of forgiveness.

So there is a form of anger that is godly, but I'm guessing most of the anger you have is not the kind from God, right?

Most of the time it is something that we, you know, it's selfishness, it's pride, it's whatever, but it's not normally a righteous indignation.

So we don't want to live a lifestyle of being angry.

Number 3, we also want to overcome eating disorders or eating unhealthy food.

Meaning eating disorders may range from things, you know, from people who are eating too much or eating too little or, you know, gorging themselves and vomiting and all these kinds of things.

The Lord wants to give us victory over these areas of our life.

The Transforming Power of our Health Message: Good News about Re-engineering Genetic Health Risk

After yesterday my plane in San Diego left 3 hours late because of storms in Denver and didn't get in until 3.45 this morning.

So In terms of trying to follow the health message myself, I'm already quite a bit behind.

But it's a wonderful opportunity that we have to discuss this morning how to more effectively take advantage of the gift that we've been given as a Seventh-day Adventist church with the health message.

So many people think of the health message, especially in the church setting, as the right arm of the gospel, but it's the closed fist of the right arm of the gospel that is basically saying, you have to do this or else you're not going to be in favor with God.

That's 1 reason that so many people, and more and more generations within our church now have essentially rejected the health message.

It's no longer relevant to them because it doesn't bring them closer to Jesus.

It actually separates them from Jesus in their mind.

And so what was the purpose of the health message?

To bring us closer to Jesus, to give us a greater opportunity to use the potential that God created in us, physically, emotionally, mentally, socially, and spiritually to accomplish what God wants to accomplish in our body and for the world, to be a showcase to the world.

And so it's critical that we be able to present the health message in a very favorable way, as something that is desirable to the average person, Especially in our church, because I don't think it's a secret to most of us that most people in our church don't look at our health message favorably.

They see it as legalistic, and don't talk to me about that.

And so we have a real challenge to learn how to present that in a way that people walk away and say yes I want to do that.

I want to follow, this makes sense to me now.

Now the science makes sense, there's evolutionists right now at University of California San Diego that are doing a better job at presenting our health message than we are.

They're saying they're excited about learning new things and they become evolutionists because they want to study where we came from, so we can better understand where we are now, what the meaning of life is, and where we're headed.

You think people like that would be open to what we have to share with them?

We know so much more about our origins, why we're here and where we're going.

And so those scientists, those medical experts are the ones that are ultimately going to be more interested in what we have.

But if we're not bold about it, they're gonna take all this health information and work it into their paradigm, their context, because we haven't shared with them the most important context, which is how it relates to our true origins and the fact that we were created by a loving God who wants to have a relationship with us that wants us to succeed and wants us to ultimately live with him forever.

So Karen and I have had a wonderful opportunity over the last 2 years to work together in our health ministries.

Karen's been doing vegetarian cooking schools for a long time within the Seventh-day Adventist church.

And as you all realize when you start talking about doing a vegetarian cooking school within the Seventh-day Adventist church setting, our local church, that's going to cause a little buzz, right?

I don't know if I can bring anything, because is it going to be just right?

And again, bring them along by showing them what the medical evidence, what the latest science is showing.

We're going to be sharing some of that with you this morning to give you more excitement about what's happening.

First, We want to show you an 8 minute segment of Naturally Gourmet.

This is 1 of many examples now on how we can use our health message to impact the world.

I had the pleasure to be a co-host with Karen and her TV program that's now Erin and Hope Channel.

And this is an opportunity of what we can do in our homes.

These are things that we can actually show on our TV at home, the group of friends or neighbors or coworkers and then cook it together after you've done the show.

Now, cook that food together and then sit down and get to know each other.

That's what the health message is all about ultimately is the relationships.

Once we start building relationships and they start asking us.

I had a colleague of mine, he's about 15 years younger than I am and he's going bald and he wrote me an email and he texted me And he says, he said, Wes, how come you still have all the air at age 50?

So he said, he's a family physician, and he goes, maybe eating chicken isn't really worthwhile.

I'm not sure where he got that, but he was thinking maybe, maybe, you know, I get this pleasure, this short-term pleasure from eating this chicken, but he's been really studying the literature, and he's been learning that there are things in meat products that speed the aging process and slow the healing process.

We're going to be looking at those a little bit, today, but first, let's show that eight-minute segment about how we can get excited about our health message.

Fresh blueberries, 1 of the highest fruits in antioxidants.

We're going to be doing some ethnic foods today, a pesto pizza and some fajitas and some Mediterranean food, pita bread with tzatziki on top and it's going to be loaded with vegetables.

So we're going to start with our pesto pizza.

And we've got some whole grains in this crust.

And we add a little bit of Italian seasoning to it.

And we're just going to press this out in the pan like this.

And I'm going to ask Sandra if she would go ahead and finish doing this crust while I move on over and do the pesto sauce.

That crust is not only more tasty, but it's also more filling, more satisfying.

It's got more fiber in it than your traditional pizza crust.

OK, our pesto sauce is made with 1 1⁄2 a cup of pine nuts.

And most pesto sauces are made with pine nuts, but I just want you to know that you can use walnuts as well.

And if you're on a budget, walnuts are a whole lot cheaper than pine nuts are.

You'll never know the difference no matter which nut you use.

But this time we're going to use the pine nuts.

Let me see if you can get that off for me, Dr.

Either way, that's going to provide a lot of healthy fat and healthy protein to, again, give a sense of satisfaction.

You're going to feel good and full when you're done with this.

Now a third cup of olive oil, and olive oil is so good for you and loaded with antioxidants.

Good for memory, good for the brain in general.

Okay, we're just about to a third of a cup of the olive oil, the extra virgin olive oil is what we use here.

Put that into the blender and then 1 to 2 cloves of garlic.

There's that good garlic, can't get away from the garlic.

Now that extra virgin olive oil is what actually gives you all those healthy ingredients.

So it's the first cold press of the olive that has all those natural ingredients that are good for the brain and the heart and increase the HDL cholesterol, lower the risk of heart disease.

I'm just going to cut these up a little bit.

Although in a Vitamix, you don't even have to cut them up.

I don't know what kind of blender you have.

Vitamix will just pulverize things like that.

And I just went down and picked a bunch of basil this morning out of my garden.

Just stick a few plants in in the ground and, boy, you've got it.

And you can freeze-dry it, too, or dehydrate it, and you can have it all year long.

Youngberg, tell us what vitamin K is good for.

How to Improve Your Memory and Intelligence

An hour and 15 minutes for this presentation, I just want to let you know, doesn't necessarily do it justice.

In preparation for this talk, I looked at all of the studies that I had saved on my computer that are meaningful in regards to memory and intelligence over the last 10 years.

And so it's, and to be honest with you, there's a lot of exciting ones I'm leaving out.

You know, You have to kind of pick and choose and try to prioritize and also know your audience, knowing that this is an ASI audience.

There's other things that I would talk about if it were a general public audience that I'm not going to bring up in this audience, et cetera, because I'm trying to see what the typical person would need to take away from this.

But many of you have heard, or at least some of you have heard how 1 of my hobbies, it actually is 1 of my hobbies, to keep up with the medical literature.

To me, it's a spiritual experience to understand more expressions of truth.

The author of truth is, of course, our Lord, And as we understand more truth, we actually understand more about him and more about his character.

And so it's always been a great hobby of mine to keep up with the medical literature.

And that's where those 4, 026 studies came from that we're just getting, thank you, that we're just getting a little glimpse of here today.

I just want to say we're passing out the catalog, but at the end I'll have to take the catalog and write the dates, the October dates, so we don't have any brochures.

Tell them the dates, and come up and give them some dates, and then we'll help talk about it in the performance.

We've also, many of you know us from our depression recovery programs and of course this is I didn't those 4026 studies didn't really have to do with depression.

I was just taking a look at memory and intelligence And of course there's a little bit of overlap What seems to help depression seems to help memory and intelligence as well in general.

And so there's a lot of significant overlap.

And what we have done actually is put on residential programs for peak mental performance as well.

And we've had some significant positive effects as a result of that.

1 of the great myths is that intelligence can't be enhanced after age 18.

And we've had individuals with IQs that are in the bottom 5% to 10% percentile of the country come to our peak mental performance program who really couldn't even kind of make it through Mission College in 6 months.

And of course, you know, there's academics with Mission College, there's college credits, et cetera, or AFCO.

But then after coming to that program and implementing the principles of that program, within 2 to 3 years, they were actually applying for and getting into medical schools throughout the country.

And so intelligence can be enhanced significantly.

Intelligence is your capacity to learn, retain, and apply knowledge.

Well I don't have the volume but I will try to move this up maybe.

Capacity to learn, retain, and apply knowledge.

And notice, a lot of people don't think intelligence is necessarily connected to memory.

Because you have to not only learn it, but you also have to retain it.

And in order to apply it, you have to have it retained as well.

It's often measured by an intelligence quotient test or an IQ test.

That's kind of the world's best standard for measuring it.

And it's not a bad standard, but it's not a perfect standard.

And there are significant instances where it missed people of high intelligence and it also missed people that were of lower intelligence that scored better on the test.

And of course It's related somewhat to academic performance.

It's not related across the board to academic performance because 1 of the greatest factors in academic performance is actually emotional intelligence.

Emotional intelligence is related to motivation.

And so if you have a highly motivated individual with average IQ, they can actually excel.

And of course, we all get frustrated when we know people have high intelligence, but they're not very successful in life.

And that's simply due to the EQ aspect of things.

Now, I've previously talked at ASI seminars about emotional intelligence.

This meeting is not about EQ, so you might want to get into the archives and get to the EQ portion.

College graduates' first job after graduation in this world is found to be linear related to their IQ.

And so they hire the IQ the better their job tends to be right out of college.

However, how far they advance in that job is not related to their IQ.

Once they get it, it's related to their emotional intelligence again and not the IQ part.

And people with very high IQ who've been passed over for promotion repeatedly have told me that the reason why they're passed over is because the bosses in their workplace don't have a high enough IQ to recognize their IQ.

Their quotient is being recognized, but what's being recognized for promotion is the emotional quotient side of things.
