The Heart of God

Fresh manna fell to the ground as a gift from God while the Israelites were in the wilderness.

It was fresh from the ovens of heaven, baked by the master baker himself.

How the Israelites must have anticipated the taste and the smell of each morning's delivery.

Just like the Israelites, you too can now enjoy the taste and smell of fresh manna.

Today, you will be listening to Pastor Bob Stewart, Associate Ministerial Director who oversees multi-ethnic ministries for the Michigan Conference of Seventh-day Adventist.

This morning, we're gonna talk about the heart of God.

Have you ever wondered what God's heart is like?

You know, in our world today, We know a lot about our hearts, of course, and we're kind of experts at the human heart.

But when it comes to God, sometimes we don't think about it, we don't talk about God's heart much.

So, Lord willing, we're going to spend a little bit of time seeking to find out what God's heart is like this morning.

We're going to have another prayer as we begin.

Father in heaven, this morning Lord as we bow before you we want to thank you for bringing us, inviting us to your house of prayer.

And we've come in your name, seeking to worship you as you deserve.

Father, we're not able to do that because our hearts are not right, and so we ask you to give us the heart to worship you in spirit and truth as you deserve.

And as we open up your word today, we pray that we might behold wondrous things out of thy law, out of thy truth.

Bless my brothers and sisters today with the ears to hear and the heart to understand.

I pray, Lord, that you would also touch the lips of your servant that I might speak the words of life to my brothers and sisters today.

Now, when you think about the most important organ of the body, Medicine tells us that there are 5 essential organs that are in our body.

And as you look at those this morning, it's the brain, the lungs, the heart, the liver, the kidneys.

Which 1 would you say is the most important?

Now obviously none of us would like to live without any of them, right?

But if you had to choose, which 1 would you think is the most important?

Well if we look at the brain for instance, I mean we think, hey the brain, right?

Well, you know, there are actually people that are living without the use of their brain.

You know, they have some brain damage or whatever.

And in fact, you can live with half a brain.

Most women think that most men live with half a brain, right?

Well, lungs are pretty important because they bring in the oxygen we need that, you know, goes throughout our system.

Many of you probably know of Pastor Jay and Linda Gallimore.

Linda Gallimore is living with only 1 lung.

So you may know of people living with just 1 lung.

So that's pretty important, but you can get by with just half a lung or 1 lung.

Now, we don't often think of the kidneys as being that important, but if you didn't have kidneys, if your kidneys were not functioning, what would you be doing every other day?

You'd be getting dialysis, is what they call it.

And You may know of people who have to go to dialysis because their kidneys are not functioning.

You can actually live with only 1 kidney.

There are stories that you probably heard in the news about people that have donated their kidney to somebody else.

So, you know, it's important, but you can live with only 1.

It takes out all of the poisons that are in our body.

But did you know that the liver of all the organs in our body is the only 1 that can regenerate itself?

So you know, even though we can have an impaired liver, it has the potential for regenerating itself.

I Don't know if you can you can't live very long without it Well, you can live a really good life with 1 kidney and 1 lung and you know part of a liver as it regenerates itself.

But if you've only got half a heart, you know, that's functioning, you're on a list that, you know, you need to get a new 1.

So we might be able to come to the conclusion this morning that anatomically speaking, the heart is the most important part of the body.

Now, obviously, we could probably have medical people that would tell us, well, you know, there's another side to that, whatever.

But for the sake of our subject this morning, we're going to conclude that the heart is probably 1 of the most important organs of our body.

Now, the Bible actually talks a lot about the heart.

In fact, there's somewhere around 762 times that the Bible mentions the word heart.

And most of the time we tend to think when we're talking about the heart, we tend to talk about what heart?

In fact, there's a scripture that we oftentimes quote, Proverbs 4, verse 23 says, "'Keep thy heart with all diligence, "'for out of it are the, " what?

If we were to put that into a little bit more modern version, Let's look at it this way from this particular version.

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

So how important would you say that that verse says the heart is in the Bible?

Yeah, in other words, everything you do flows out of your heart, whether it's good or whether it's bad.

And yet, what does the Bible say about the condition of the heart?

Well, it says in Jeremiah 17, 9 and 10, the heart is deceitful above all things and what?

I try in the rains, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doing." So, according to the Bible, what's the condition of our hearts, man's heart?

We're all born with hearts that are deceitful and desperately wicked.

And that's why the Bible says that we need a new heart.

I mean, I just listed up a bunch of them.

You can't read them from here, but if you looked at all these other statements about the heart, Psalms 51, creating me a clean heart, oh God, renew a right spirit within me.

And we can go page after page of the 700 plus, you know, statements in the Bible about the heart.

But it all really goes back to this particular situation that took place in heaven that's told to us by Ezekiel in the book Ezekiel 28.

It says in Ezekiel 28 verse 6 and verse 17, it says, therefore, thus says the Lord God, because you have set your heart as the heart of God.

So in heaven, Lucifer, the highest archangel, set his heart to be like the heart of God.

Now that would seem like it's a good thing, amen?
