Stand Apart!

Just a mere glimpse of what heaven will be like.

Just a minute glimpse what heaven will be like.

It has indeed been a privilege and an honor to be with you here this weekend.

And I too have been tremendously blessed by the association and just the zeal, the commitment, and the encouragement of young people here in this part of God's vineyard, anticipating and faithful to finishing God's work.

And that commitment, that zeal, that enthusiasm often rubs off on you, doesn't it?

And oh, how I wish that many more young people who are in the valley of decision, or to be here just for the mere association.

And hopefully it'll just rub off on them.

And so I thank you for your commitment and your dedication and your zeal and passion to proclaim the soon coming of our Savior Jesus Christ.

Well, if you have your Bibles with you, Turn with me to the book of Revelation.

Revelation chapter 14, in beginning of verse 6.

Before we begin, let's bow our heads for a word of prayer.

Father, thank you for this beautiful Sabbath.

We ask now that as we open up thine holy word, that you will illuminate our hearts and our minds.

Holy Spirit, teach us and guide us unto all truth.

This evening I would like to continue with where I last left off this morning.

I want to continue where I last left off this morning.

And this morning, for those of you who were not here this morning, we talked about what it means to stand apart.

Those who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus.

The Bible declares unto us that we are a holy generation.

The Bible reminds us that we are a peculiar people, a royal priesthood, 1 that does not entangle themselves with the affairs of this world.

But 1 by the grace and the mercy of God that has separated themselves from the pleasures, the traditions and the customs of this world.

And this morning we talked about what it means to be that peculiar people.

And may I remind you, SWYC, that this morning we found out that our uniqueness and our distinction and what makes us stand apart as God's end-time people is rooted in Jesus and Jesus alone.

Christ our sacrifice, Christ our mediator, and Christ our coming deliverer.

I am who I am today because of my relationship with Jesus.

I'm unique because I'm unique based on my relationship with Jesus.

And when we don't have that covenant relationship with Him, then we have disqualified ourselves from standing apart, from being that holy generation, from being that peculiar individual.

Oh, how I long and I desire for God's people to have a living relationship with Jesus Christ.

It reminds me of a story of a young executive man who was walking down to his company building and as he came to the door and as he was about to enter into this door, a young feminist lady walks into the door at the very same time.

And so this young executive middle aged man opens up the door and the feminist lady to her disgust and dismay turns to the gentleman and says, you didn't have to open the door because I'm a lady.

The middle-aged gentleman turns to the young lady and he says, I did not open the door because you're a lady.

I opened the door because I am a gentleman.

We are what we are because of who we are in Jesus.

We preach the way we preach because of who we are in Christ Jesus.

We hold ourselves in the way we hold ourselves because we are rooted in Jesus, our Savior.

We don't do things because of what people are not.

We don't do things of what people may see about us, but we preach this way, we eat this way, we live this way because Jesus saved me and he's coming back to take me home.

Our uniqueness and our peculiarity is rooted in Christ and Christ alone.

Furthermore, we found out this morning that in order to be a peculiar people, in order to be that group of people that stands apart, we must have, we must have a unique message.

We cannot be that peculiar people if we don't have that peculiar message.

And we found out this morning that we not only believe in the totality of Scripture that sets us apart, but God has given us a unique message.

The everlasting gospel, remember that for those of you who are here this morning?

Fear God, give glory to him, for the hour of his judgment has come.

What gives you uniqueness, young men and young ladies, is not your talents.

What gives us peculiarity is not the fact that we worship in great churches and we attend 1, 000, 2, 000 member churches.

What gives us peculiarity is not the status we have in church or in society, but who we are in Jesus and the kind of message we proclaim.

Fear God, give glory to Him for the hour of His judgment has come.

Worship Him that made heaven and earth, the sea and the fountains of waters.

And we dwelt a little bit about that this morning.

1 of the areas that God ordains of us to stand apart as his end time people is the area of worship.

Not only has God ordained us to tell those out there the day of worship, but also God has reminded us for those of us who are in here, how we worship and the spirit we should have when we worship.

So the 3 angels messages is not only a message that's proclaimed for those who are out there, but sometimes it's for those who are in here.

Worship, and we talked about worship this morning.

When it comes to worship, I'm often asked the question, where in the Bible can I find guidelines on how to worship God correctly?

We found out this morning that it was imperative for 1 to worship God correctly.

For we found out in the book of Judges chapter 8, that when 1 worships God improperly, it will ultimately lead them to worship other gods.

Therefore, it is of utmost importance and imperative for God's end-time people to worship Him in the way He wants us to worship, for he is the superior party in our covenant relationship.

There's only 1 area in the Bible that I can think of that gives us guidelines and principles on how to worship God in the way he wants us to worship.

And that's nowhere else but in the law of God, the 10 Commandments, the Decalogue.

For the Bible tells us that the first 4 commandments refer to our relationship with God.

How we worship Him and how we approach Him.

The last 6 commandments refer to our relationship with 1 another.

Therefore, if we are to worship God and have that relationship with Him, we must glean from the first 4 commandments, the principles of how to worship him correctly.

Come with me to the book of Exodus chapter 20.

Tonight we are going to carry on our theme of worship as We look into the book of Daniel chapter 3.

But here in the book of Exodus chapter 20, the first 4 commandments deal with our worship with our maker.

Standing Before God

Tonight, this is our final time together.

We talked about standing in the midst of suffering.

Yesterday, for church, we looked at the urge of a fadeless vision in our theme text.

And before you rise and stand on your feet, you have to remember when you bow down low at the man of Nazareth's feet.

And Paul never lost that vision when he stood.

So tonight, I want to talk to you about standing before God.

And in this hymn, in its chorus, it says, how shall we stand in that great day?

It sounds like a fearful thing sometimes.

But tonight, I want to talk to you about a message that is encouraging and challenging at the same time.

And so I'm just giving you an idea of the lay of the land, where we're going.

So for the first half of the message, you'll be very encouraged.

The second half of the message, because of how encouraged you were, You will be very challenged in the second half of the message.

And so I ask that you'll be praying in your hearts that God will speak to you.

And I also ask that you'll be praying for me as we share this message together and that God would help this to become alive for us on this Saturday evening, the eve of the end of our conference together.

Heavenly Father, we are humbled to be here.

And because God is here, we want the right heart.

We want to have the right mind, we have the privilege of fellowshipping with Him who angels get to witness.

And Lord we don't want to take this for granted and we know when God steps into any environment, any situation, it can never remain the same.

And so we pray that our bowed heads and humbled hearts would signal to heaven that we desire the Spirit of God to come down.

And we ask, Father, that this man, which is but dust in your sight, that you would use him, that you would speak to him, and you would speak through him, That we all might be blessed and changed and more like Jesus when we leave this place.

This is our prayer, and we trust that you'll help this to be our experience.

Philemon only has 1 chapter, so I can't tell you a chapter.

The book of Philemon, the book of Philemon, Standing before God.

Now, we're going to go through the entire book of Philemon.

We're going to go through the entire book of Philemon.

But what I want you to do, for those of you who are studious, my favorite kind of listeners, the ones who are taking notes, that are writing things down, I'm going to give you the structure of the message, okay?

And this is breaking down the structure of the book of Philemon, okay?

First of all, verses 1 through 3 is the greeting and salutation.

Verses 4 to 7 is the prayer of Thanksgiving.

Verses 8 to 16 is the petition for forgiveness.

All right, now let's see if you can remember.

And from verses 17 to 22 is the promise of restoration.

And then from verses 23 to 25 is our salutation.

Now let's recap and then I'm going to preach.

Now you'll be ready to preach when we're done the message I'm about to preach to you.

Alright, greeting and salutation verses 1 to 3, the Bible says, Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ and Timothy our brother, unto Philemon, our dearly beloved and fellow laborer, and to our beloved Aphia, an archipus, our fellow soldier, and to the church in thy house.

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Now in the greeting and salutation, we learn who this letter is being written to and who it's being written from.

Archippus and the church that is in thy house.

Now this is unique because Paul has 3 other letters that are written to individuals, first and second Timothy and Titus.

But in this 1 he writes to Philemon as well as Aphia, Archipus and the church that is in thy house.

So for some reason, something in this letter that Paul is writing to Philemon in particular, he seeks to impact the church community around him.

So we have at least 2 players in our story tonight.

Now verses 4 to 7, the prayer of thanksgiving.

I thank my God, making mention of thee how often?
