The Game Changer

Well, today I was kind of thinking, you know, what is it that I should speak on?

And as I was looking at some of the things Dr.

Nelly was talking about in terms of the statistics for the Ukraine, the word is depending on what it counts, about 11, 000 people have now died in that conflict if you take both sides, which God cares about people who are Russians and people who are Ukrainians and even Americans, he cares about Americans too.

And what a tragedy is when you lose people to death.

And Some of us have lost people close to us as well, people I've talked with this week had significant loss as well.

So I thought, you know, the resurrection is not just for 1 day out of the year to talk about.

Because the resurrection really is the game changer.

It is bottom line doctrine or teaching of the New Testament.

So let's pray together before we study this subject today.

We need a game changing word from you today in the midst of our pain as we see other people suffer, as we experience loss ourselves.

And so really the bedrock doctrine of the New Testament, the teaching even of the Old and New Testament, is the resurrection.

I'm not able to really articulate it, but you speak directly to us, we pray.

Not a church member, I'm just giving you a hint.

Let's get the security guards next to hers.

So this guy was like the 1 of the top guys when the Bolshevik Revolution came about in 1970.

By the way, some of these buildings on this campus were built around that time.

Weimar Institute, the sanatorium, well first of all was being raised, the buildings in 1917.

This guy, Nikolai, was a adamant, as you might imagine, believer in Leninism, Bolshevism, and atheism.

And In 1917, he went to Kiev, which is the Ukraine.

And he went there to give a speech because the actual center of the Orthodox faith many believe is not Moscow, it's actually Kiev.

And there's a kind of a debate between the 2 of them over that, but he went to Kiev.

And His speech was, of course, on atheism and why Christianity should not be believed.

He said some exalting words about Christianity, and he argued against it as well.

And he went on and on until he realized that he had carried the day, his arguments.

And it took a while, but he convinced the crowd.

The end of his talk, he was confident, and he knew they would embrace atheism.

So he turned the meeting now over to the priest.

Since he had done all the damage, he said, take it over.

The priest complimented him on his great eloquence, said, man, you know how to use our language.

But as he dismissed him, he said something.

Turned to the crowd, he dismissed them by saying, Christ is risen!

To which the crowd responded, he is risen.

And everything that the man had said went out the window.

And I want to talk today about the resurrection of Christ because in that speech, in that time, in that public square in Kiev, it was a game changer.

And today that's the message we need in Kiev, but also the message we need here.

And if we understand the message of the resurrection, our life will truly change.

Now to look at this, how this applies to us today, we're going to look at some writings of Luke the physician.

Luke was a medical missionary, he was a doctor, he was an apostle, And 1 of the things he liked to talk about the most, or to document the most, was the truth and evidence of the resurrection.

The former account I made of Theophilus of all that Jesus both began to do and to teach.

Until the day in which he was taken up after he through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles, to whom he also presented himself alive.

After his suffering by many, what kind of proofs?

Infallible, unassailable proofs being seen by them during 40 days and speaking of the things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

And in our text today for our scripture reading, not that I'm going to preach on it, but I'll just summarize it because I can't help it.

Listen to the preaching of the resurrection, our text said.

See if it's in accordance with the Old Testament scriptures, the scriptures, the scriptures verse 3, 4, and 5.

And then in that text it marshals 514 people.

The testimony of Cephas, the testimony of the 12, the testimony of 500 others, and the testimony of Paul.

In other words, over 500 people saw this, and then in Acts 1, many other people heard about it.

It's something you cannot fight against, and they didn't really fight against it.

No 1 could prove that the tomb held the body of Jesus.

It was a fact, and so they believed, verse 11.

All those who have really closely studied these documents of Luke have come away believers.

William Ramsey was a very famous atheist.

He went to 32 countries and 54 cities and 9 islands in the holy land.

He prepared himself in the fields of archeology, geology, geography rather.

He wanted to prove the Bible was full of myths, that it was dangerous to society.
