Have you ever wished you could be washed clean inside and out?

God has a plan to completely wash all your sins away and supercharge your character.

When you accept Christ, the old life dies and the Lord promises to forget all of your sins.

Let's take a look at the Bible's amazing facts about baptism.

Well, I'm wondering, is baptism really necessary?

Let's see what Jesus has to say about it.

He who believes and is baptized will be saved, but he who does not believe will be condemned.

I don't think we can get any plainer than that.

But the thief on the cross wasn't baptized, so why should I be?

God holds us accountable for what we can do, but He also recognizes our limitations.

Psalm 103.14 For He knows our frame, He remembers that we are dust.

The thief on the cross also didn't restore what he had stolen, as the Lord directs his people to do in Ezekiel chapter 33, but God will not require a physical impossibility.

Could the thief have come down from the cross, he would have been baptized.

Every person who is able should be baptized.

All right, but there are so many forms of baptism.

Can a person choose any 1 of these if they're sincere and earnest about it?

There is 1 body and 1 spirit, just as you were called in 1 hope of your calling.

All the other so-called baptisms are counterfeits.

The word baptism comes from the Greek word baptizō.

It means to dip under or submerge or immerse.

There are 8 Greek words in the New Testament used to describe the application of liquids, but among these various words, meaning to sprinkle, to pour, or to immerse, only the 1 meaning to immerse, baptizo, is used to describe baptism.

It came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan and immediately coming up from the water, He saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending upon him like a dove.

Notice that after the baptism, he came up from the water.

Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River, not on the bank as many believe.

Now John also was baptizing in Enon, near Silene, because there was much water there.

John the Baptist always found a place to baptize where there was plenty of water, so it would be deep enough for full immersion.

The Bible says we're called to follow Jesus' example.

But didn't the early church leaders change the method of baptism?

Both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and he baptized him.

Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away.

Please notice that Philip, a leader in the early Christian Church, baptized the treasurer of Ethiopia by immersion exactly as John the Baptist baptized Jesus.

No person, regardless of their position in the Church, is authorized to change God's direct commands.

Well, since Jesus and his disciples baptized by immersion, where did the other so-called baptisms come from?

Misguided people have introduced other forms of baptism in direct contradiction to God's Word.

Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition?

Thus you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition, and in vain they worship you, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.

Worship that follows human teaching is vain.

People have tampered with the sacred ordinance of baptism in an attempt to make it unimportant.

No wonder the Bible encourages us to contend earnestly for the faith.

All right, what does a person need to do to be prepared for baptism?

First, Jesus said that they need to learn God's requirements.

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you.

Matthew chapter 7 verses 24 and 25 Next, according to Jesus, they should believe the truth of God's Word and the gospel message.

He who believes and is baptized will be saved.

For if you believe Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.

But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes.

And finally, they should repent and turn away from their sins and experience conversion.

Acts chapter 2, verse 38, Repent, and let every 1 of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.

Baptism represents the believer uniting with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection.

Therefore we were buried with him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

For if we have been united together in the likeness of his death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of his resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin." The symbolism is filled with deep meaning.

In baptism, the eyes are closed, the hands are folded, and the breath is suspended as in death.

Then comes the burial in the water and Resurrection from the watery grave to a new life in Christ when raised from the water the eyes open and the believer begins breathing again and mingles with friends just like in the resurrection the great difference between Christianity and every other religion is the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.

These 3 acts made possible everything that God wants to do for us.

To keep these 3 vital acts alive in the minds of Christians until the end of time, the Lord instituted baptism by immersion as a memorial.

There is no symbolism of death, burial, and resurrection and other forms of baptism.

Only immersion fulfills the meaning of the scripture passage we just read.

But a person shouldn't be baptized until they are sure they will never slip and sin again, right?

This is like saying a baby should never try to walk until certain he will never slip and fall.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
