Special scientific committees have been investigating psychic phenomenon, such as spirit forms, voices of the dead and communication with the parted spirits. The results of these studies have shaken the entire world community. I'll be back in a moment with the amazing facts about souls five minutes after death. Hello, this is Joe Cruz and the amazing facts, broadcast facts, which affect you. You know, some of the most perplexing questions under discussion today have to do with the possibilities of life. After death. Many popular books are currently on the market exploring the intriguing subject of communication with the dead scientific committees have been set up on a university level, even to investigate the hundreds of claims for extra century perception, the disturbing and often indecisive results of these studies has left millions of people with the impression that the dead are not really dead at all from high theological circles, right on down to the most obscure layman there's strong personal conviction that every earthly body actually houses a naturally immortal soul that can never die, but friends, we're not interested in the ideas and speculations of men, no matter how learned they might be. We've discovered long ago, that error has a way of sweeping in on a tie to majority opinion. Truth is determined by God and not man. And that's why we're dedicated in this broadcast to examining all the Bible evidence and the pursuit of ultimate truth. Perhaps we might be led to some very unpopular positions under the influence of this Bible, but the chips must fall where they will. Every preconceived and cloudy opinion should be willingly laid aside in favor of the authority of the Bible. By that book alone, the lines of truth will be laid out on this program. Now in our last broadcast, we introduced the subject of death and the soul. We discovered that there is no such doctrine in the Bible as unnaturally immortal soul in Ezekiel 18 four, we read the soul that Senate, it shall die. Now scores of other texts expand on this very same thought. God did not put a soul in the body at creation. He breathed in the spirit or the breath of life. The soul is simpler of the life, which resulted from the combination of the breath and body. In Genesis two seven, we read and the Lord, God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils of breath of life. And man became a living soul. Now notice that man became a soul only after the breath was added to the body. The fact is the soul is the conscious life, which resulted when God added the breath of the body. Now a simple illustration will probably help us see this truth more clearly. Let's liken the body to a light bulb. The current flowing into that bulb will represent the breath of life, which God put into the body. And the light itself will represent the soul, which man became you remember after the breath joined the body. And as we look at the shining light, we see a perfect representation of the completed creation. Now we press the button and turn the light off. What has happened. The current has left the bulb just as the breath leaves the body at death. But now where is the light? Fran? Where did it go? Did it go up into the socket somewhere? Why no, it simply ceased to exist. When that current separated from the Bob. Now let's ask this. Where is the soul? When the breath separates on the body, why there simply is no soul until in the resurrection. God restores that breath of life to that body. Again. Now that should not sound so strange to us. Now that we've discovered how everything returns at death of the way it was before, before creation, man did not exist in some disembodied form. There was no personality, no conscious emotions before God added the breath of that body. At that moment, man became a living soul. If the soul came to be as a result of that union, when does the soul cease to be well, surely as a result of breaking that union. Now let's illustrate another way. Suppose we have two things before us here, boards and nails. We take a hammer and drive the nails into the boards, making a box. Now we actually have three things. Instead of two, we have boards, nails, and a box later, we carefully pull out the nails and lay them down beside the boards. Again, we have only two things before us boards and nails. Now what happened to the box? Of course there is no box because it requires the two things to gather, to cause the box to become. Now in the same way, God started with two things, the body and the spirit, when he put them together, the soul became, it came into being, it began to exist at death. The wise man tells us the spirit returns to God and the body returns to the dust. And nowhere in the Bible are we told that any soul survives, the body or cont continues to exist without a body, the soul or the life has no existence without the power of God residing in that body. And at death, that power of life is removed. It returns to God. And the state of that man is exactly what it was before the breath join the body. That means no life, no consciousness and no personality. You know, friends, even animals are referred to as souls in the Bible. Did you know that because they have the same power from God to make them live. You re you'll read this in the writing of the wise man. He said for that, which befall at the sons of men befall at beast, even one thing, befall of them as the one die is so die at the other. Yay. They have all one breath, all go into one place, all or of the dust and all turn to dust. Again, ecclesia is three 19 and 20. Now this does not mean of course, that men and animals have the same ultimate end. There will be a resurrection and judgment for God's creatures, but life comes only from God, whether it be human or animal. And that life is often referred to in the Bible as the soul. All right, with this background, now we're prepared to see what actually happens to the person who dies in Peter's sermon. On the day of Pentecost. He made this strong statement about David who had, by the way, been dead for over a thousand years for David is not ascended into the heavens. Acts 2 34. Now think of this for a moment. Fran David had long ago departed this life. And though often wayward, he had received the assurance of forgiveness in salvation. All right. Why then was he not enjoying the bliss of heaven those thousand years after he passed away? The question is answered in verse 29, where Peter explains men and brethren. Let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch, David, that he is both dead and Barrett and his supper is with us under this day. So the inspired Peter said that David was right there in his grave. He had not yet ascended to heaven. Now isn't that interesting France, if the man after God's own heart had not received his reward a thousand years after death. What about all the other good people who had lived and died up to that time? They also were resting in their graves, awaiting the call of God in the resurrection. Now Jesus assured the people of his day, thou shall be recomen at the resurrection of the just that's quoting Luke 14, 14. And again, Jesus said for the son of man shall come in the glory of his father with his angels. And then he shall reward every man, according to his works, Matthew 16, 27. Now notice friends that the recom pen comes in the resurrection. And Jesus said that that reward would come when the son of man will come in his glory. There's no equivocation here in simple direct language. Jesus declared that no one would be rewarded until the resurrection takes place at his second coming. This means that none of the righteous dead have gone to heaven so far all are waiting in their graves for the judgment and the end of the world. Almost the last words of the Bible confirm this fact and behold, I come quickly and my reward is with me to give every man, according as his work shall be revelation 2212, this last day reward is further described by Paul in first coring, his 1553, he says, and this mortal must put on immortality. When our friends, when does that happen in a moment in the twin of an night, the last Trump Paul says there in verse 52. So this settles the issue about the reward of the righteous without any question, but what about the wicked? When will they be punished for their sins? The amazing answer is found in second, Peter, two nine, the Lord know it, how to deliver the God layout of temptations and to reserve the unjust under the day of judgment to be punished. Now there it is friends, the wicked or reserve somewhere until the day of judgment arrives. Now, where are they reserved? Jesus answers that question for us marble night at this, for the hours coming into which all that are in the grave shall hear his voice and shall come forth. They that have done good under the resurrection of life and they that have done evil under the resurrection of damnation, John 5 28 and 29. So our Lord made it exceedingly plain, that everyone would be reserved in their graves until call forth and the resurrection to receive either life or damnation. Not only is this good theology for it's also good sense. Obviously no one will be punished until after they're judged justice demands that this be done. Even the most unjust earthly judge would be impeached for doing otherwise. Suppose a man came before the judge charged with stealing and the judge said, put him away for 10 years and then we'll hear his case. Oh no, that would never be. And, and, and would the judge of all the earth do anything as unjust as that in dealing with the wicked people? Of course not the judgment would be a far in such a case. It would have no meaning. The wonderful message of the Bible is that both good and bad are sleeping in their graves until the resurrection day. At that time, they're brought forth to face the judgment after which punishments and rewards are assigned. Job said, so man, life down and rise at not till the heavens be no more. They shall not awake nor be raised out of their sleep. All that thou would hide me in the grave that I was keep me secret until th wrath be passed. That thou would appoint me at time a set time. And remember me if a man die, shall he live again all the days of my appointed time while I wait till my change come, thou shall call. And I will answer the thou will have a desire to the works of th hands job, 14, 12 to 15. Now in Harmon with all the rest of the Bible job describes a period of unconscious sleep and the grave before waking to receive his reward. That agrees with Daniel who talked about the second coming of Jesus in these words. And at that time, th people shall be delivered. And many of them that sleep in the dust of the ear shall awake. Some do everlasting life and some to shame and everlasting contempt, Daniel 12 verse two. So there's a reason Francis so many inspired writers speak about death as asleep. It's a perfect description of the state of the dead. When a tired man lies down at night, he's immediately wrapped in sleep. As far as he's concerned, the very next moment he wakes up to the rising sun. He's totally unconscious of anything that transpires while he slept. And so it is with the sleep of death. Lazarus had died. Jesus said to his disciples, our friend Lazarus sleep at, but I go them that I may awake him out of sleep. Then set his disciples. Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well. How be it? Jesus speak of his death. But they thought he had spoken of taking of rest and sleep then said, Jesus, under them, plainly Lazarus is dead. John 11, 11 to 14. Now here's a classic example of the true Bible teaching about death Christ called death asleep later. He stood by that RCU SAK of his friend and cried out Lazarus come forth. He didn't say Lazarus come down. Lazarus was not in heaven, nor was he anywhere else except inside the walls of his tomb. And in response to the call of Jesus, he woke from his sleep of death and walked out into the sunlight. Now, many exaggerated tales have been circulated about people who came back from the dead, but this is the most authentic story on record. There's absolutely no doubt that Lazarus have been dead for four days. His sisters were protested when Jesus ordered the stone to be rolled away and yet he came forth and he didn't have any great story to tell about being in heaven. He had been sleeping in there during those four days of his death. Well, for this information on today's subject, he's contained and my little book called spirits of the dead.
