The Testimony of Jesus

Good to see you this morning and good to be able to study with you.

Good to be back to Army camp and there's actually a truck now, an Army truck.

Phil, maybe they're going to think that we are supporters of the gun amendment to the Constitution, but our swords are the scriptures, amen?

Today I wanna talk with you about the testimony of Jesus and Bible study, the spirit of prophecy.

So why don't we just ask the Lord to be with us as we begin.

Father in heaven, we're thankful today that the Bible, when we look at it, is a book that had to be accepted by faith as a present day spirit of prophecy by people throughout time.

You have promised that surely you will do nothing save you reveal yourself to your servants, the prophets.

And there are many churches that make claims to have prophets.

Some consider luminaries in their past a prophet.

And the real question is not whether or not there's a spirit of prophecy, but which 1 we choose and why.

And if we decide to choose none, that makes us the prophet.

So today, just teach us, guide us, and deepen our study.

Give us more crumbs, give us a crumb cake.

That is sweet, in Christ's name we pray, amen.

So when I was asked to speak at Army again, which I was actually quite surprised to be invited back.

I don't know, some kind of glitch, some kind of communication error, but As I was asked to come back, there was this real focus on, look, we don't want just perspiration, we want, or inspiration, we want perspiration.

I went home and told my wife, I said, they want deep stuff there at Army.

So, as I thought about it, I shot an email to, I think it was Calvin, and I said, here's what I would think about, and then surprisingly, he said, why don't you come and do that.

So, then the other surprising thing is, and this is very surprising, that I actually provided notes this time for you.

And I understand that I'm the only speaker that has done that.

Of course the rest of them all have DVDs you can buy.

But, I do have, and you should buy those DVDs.

The Bible says something about freely you have received, freely you give, but, amen.

So, the other thing that happened, the other thing that happened as I was preparing for this is that I sent the notes in, you know, I said, okay, you know, because I thought, and then I got all these emails back from the army staff.

It was like they had like this meeting, and they're like, are you sure you wanna talk about the spirit of prophecy?

There might be people there that don't like Ellen White, and there might be people that don't believe or this or that, they didn't quite say it that way, and you wanna make sure that the Bible and the Bible only, and I was like, wow, man, I better take a few moments at the beginning.

So first, I mean, if I'm ever gonna be invited back, which is actually my sole goal in life, no it's not.

Ever gonna be invited back, you know, I better make sure that I cover that a little bit.

So I thought the first part I would share like a personal testimony concerning Ellen White, and then we look at principles and how to study Ellen White, and then we would have a time where you actually studied the scriptures and Ellen White on a specific topic, which I have chosen, confession.

So you have some notes, and the slides that I show may be different than the slides on your notes, because of all of this kerfuffle that happened after I sent those notes in.

So what I did was I added a few slides first and then you'll find principles for studying Ellen White and then it'll be like normal.

So now that I've alienated my hosts, let's get into this.

I love the statement in the Army book, a respect for the spirit of prophecy as a divinely inspired source of instruction, comfort, warning for our lives today, believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

So man, I said, well, maybe I can develop that theme of Army and look a little bit at Ellen White.

So Ellen White is the fourth most translated author in history, for those of you who don't know much about her, and the most translated woman writer, and the most translated American author of either sex.

She wrote over 5, 000 articles and 49 books, now over 100 titles, and the White Estate keeps putting out more compilations, and translated into over 135 languages.

Now I happen to think it should be translated into every language.

It surprises me that even in the church in some parts of the world, not translated, I was in a certain section of the world that I won't name until the break.

And this particular section of the world I was talking and I said, so it says this in this book or that book and they said we don't have that translated.

What happened, you guys, the technology not working here?

I mean, it was a multimedia presentation I was doing, right?

But not translated, I mean, I think this is a travesty.

Steps to Christ, a wonderful manual on how to become a Christian.

I'll talk more about that when we look at our assignment because our assignment will actually have some of the same language that's in Steps to Christ from that chapter on confession.

The Desire of Ages, a Biography of Christ's Life, the Great Controversy, a Study of the Conflict Between Good and Evil from the perspective of Daniel and Revelation.

And you know, we live here in California, some of us.

Pray for you in the prayer chain tomorrow morning.

So, but you know, the last 10 years of Ellen White's life were spent in California, and she focused in on the very things you need to know right now.

The books that she wrote while she lived in California are addressing every major conflict in the church and in the world today.

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God, the scripture says, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

And then, quench not the spirit, despise not prophesying as it says in 1 Thessalonians 5, 19 through 21.

So the idea is not to say there's no prophets.

The idea is that yes there are prophets but we have to be able to discern between them.

Now you know at AFCO I kind of go through all of these things.

I'll talk about some of the ones that have stars next to them.

And we'll look at some of those briefly here.

These are added because of the special request.

So how did her writings relate to the Bible?

Isaiah 820, how many of you know the text?

To the law, to the testimony, they speak not according to this, there's no light in them.

So to the law, that's the Pentateuch, and the testimony, all the other things, the kavod, the testimony, the witness, there's no light in them.

In other words, you know, things that are in the present or said in the future by a prophet must stand in connectedness and not be contradicting that which is in the past, Right?

Here's what Ellen White says about herself in 1901.
