I'm Cameron DeBasier and I'm Mark Howard and this is Talking Points.

We're headed towards the very concluding weeks of our On Death, Dying, and the Future Hope series, now on lesson 12, titled The Biblical Worldview.

Sabbath, December 17 is the week for this lesson.

They're doing this, heading into the Christmas holiday.

You want them to think we're spending the holiday just working on talking points.

Of course I want people to know that we're right here with them.

But the reality is yes, we do record these earlier.

It is actually November now but December is the time for this recording.

Well I say this because you kind of planned ahead.

You got the flannel going and I should have worn a sweater or something to be up with the but you think I planned ahead and I'm so strategic like I'm gonna wear it's like 65 out today so it's perfectly comfortable what I'm wearing so we're gonna go beyond that now and talk about our lesson you have together the talking points and what are we talking about this week?

Our lesson this week is on the biblical worldview, and specifically it is looking at how this worldview of the state of man, you know, the nature of man impacts our getting ready for the coming of Jesus.

So it's building on what we've looked at this quarter and in light of Jesus' return and the development, the spiritual development that must take place to be ready for the coming of Jesus.

Okay, well with that in mind, before you walk us through the talking points, let's start with a word of prayer, then you can kind of take it over.

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you so much for this day.

Thank you that you give us every day of life and we want to know more about eternal life that's provided in your word and help us to not be deceived by Satan's deceptions, but to have a clear understanding of the biblical worldview that you outline in the word of God.

So please help us to be clear on that today and send your Holy Spirit to be our teacher.

The first talking point drawn from Sabbath, Sunday, and Thursday is our development must be consistent with our nature.

This is going to be kind of an umbrella, an overview of then the development, the specific development that takes place in numbers 2, 3, and 4.

The lesson had brought out, in fact, even a little bit more, and I thought I'd condense them into 4 talking points and I thought...

I did this 1 as kind of an introduction and then talking point number 2, our physical health is a spiritual necessity drawn primarily from Monday's lesson.

Number 3, the mind of Christ subdues the carnal nature.

This is talking more about the mental development and that's Tuesday's lesson.

So the other 1 would be more of a physical, this 1 is more mental.

And then final talking point number 4, we need the spirit to be spiritual, talking about that spiritual aspect in Wednesday's lesson.

Okay, well that sounds very well organized.

That's how the lesson kind of the quarterly kind of walks through it and honestly you know a teacher may look at this and say hey I want to focus on the mental development and we're going to work on that this week and there's just, there's kind of a lot you could cover.

As you're going through which you'll see.

So the odds of doing it all comprehensively may not happen at everyone.

Our development must be consistent with our nature.

I have to say I'm not sure what that means.

Okay, well now Sunday's lesson begins with Luke 252 where it talks about how Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor, increased and in favor with God and man.

So it's talking about this development and the lesson is called the model of Jesus.

So Jesus modeled this spiritual development.

But what is- Well, and again, you said this spiritual development, but it's not just, sometimes we think, oh, the spiritual realm, but it disconnects from the body.

But your point is, I think, as I understand it- The lesson's point.

And the lesson's point, or the scripture's point, let's even better, that Jesus wasn't just a human and all other assets, but he had this 1 spiritual thing, that he was holistically, he had a full development physically, mentally, all the ways.

So our memory verse talks about, you know, 1 Thessalonians 5, 23, that sanctification is, Paul says, may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely.

May your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of the Lord Jesus.

So to a person, and we'll get into this, in fact I think you may have touched on a little bit last week and we'll see more this week.

For most people, they have come into this idea of Greek dualism that were made up of these different components.

You have the spirit soul or spirit in the body.

There's the material self and the spiritual self.

And so the physical, the material self, how I live in the body is really irrelevant.

And so the development then, like I don't need to take care of my body, I don't need to be in shape, I don't need to do this, that, or the other.

Or even say my mental, I don't have to study the Word of God everything as long as I feel love for God in my spirit, my heart, my emotions, whatever.

So if 1 part of me is attached to God, the rest of me doesn't really matter.

Now potentially, I suppose maybe that could be a reality if we did have this dualistic nature but we don't.

And so we see in the example of Jesus this comprehensive development.

And so talking point number 1, our development must be consistent with our nature.

Our nature is not all these different components.

So every little part of it has to do with that holistic development.

So the lesson, now interesting, the lesson breaks that down as being, you know, grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man, mentally, physically, spiritually, and socially.

Then the lesson itself doesn't really do a lot more with the socially, does a little bit in there.

So we're primarily focusing on the physical, the mental, the spiritual, but even as I read this particular passage it seems to me that Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and then the favor with God and man was a an outcome of that versus all these different components.

So that could be an interesting discussion like how do we even interpret that 1 passage about Jesus' growth?

But the takeaway is there needs to be this comprehensive development.

Maybe you can read that passage there from the book Education, it's also quoted on Sunday's lesson.
