Prayer, Perseverance, & Overcoming Negative Thoughts

And I was like, man, I'm missing out because I like to pace around before I speak because I get nervous.

But I was listening, I was like, man, that sounds like a really powerful special music.

It is a privilege to be here today and to share the Word of God.

I love sharing the Bible and giving Bible studies.

And today I want to share a message about prayer, perseverance, and overcoming negative thoughts.

I've shared this message before at other churches.

I don't think I've ever shared it here at Advent Hope.

But with some recent events, I decided to put some edits into it and share it this morning.

I have my notes and my slides, but I might add some more stuff.

I tend to go into tangents if I get too excited, so I'll try.

So, so I Usually I cut the sermon short, but I don't know.

But let's go ahead and pray and we'll get into it.

Loving Father, we thank you so much for this privilege to study your word together and to worship you.

I pray that Christ would be glorified and lifted up as we study what it means to commune with God and to pray and persevere in Jesus name.

You're going to be seeing some familiar texts and passages, but these are some texts and passages that are really important to me.

And so I want to talk about communion with God, talking to God, which is also known as prayer.

And this is a quote that is very popular from Steps of Christ.

You might have read it before, and it says that prayer is what?

Not that it's necessary in order to make known to God what we are, but in order to enable us to do what?

Prayer does not bring God down to us, but it does what?

It says, prayer is the opening of the heart to God like a friend.

We'll get more into that, but we'll get more into that.

I'm going to ask you guys a question that you guys probably have heard a thousand times, so you probably already know the answer.

But whenever I go to like a new church, it's like a fun trivia question.

Everybody gets it wrong and it's kind of fun, but you probably get it all right.

The oldest man to die was Methuselah, who lived to be 969 years old.

And the oldest man to live, well, Enoch never died.

The Bible says that he walked with God and he was taken, right?

You guys will probably hear it a thousand more times in the future, but yes, he walked with God.

And the question is, what does it mean to walk with God and I think he was in his 60s I think 65 or so when he had a son is that correct for all and then he walked with God for 300 years Something happened to Enoch when he had a child that caused him or led him to walk with God.

You might have heard that that verse that says pray without seizing.

1 time I posted this on my Facebook somewhere and I type it out as seizing like seizure.

And yes, you want to pray without seizures too, amen?

But you pray without stopping, always praying.

But if you have your Bibles, we're gonna look at some passages here in the book of Daniel.

And we are told in these last days that we should be studying 2 particular books.

Daniel and Revelation in order to understand Revelation you have to have an understanding of the book of Daniel because there's so much symbolism in the book of Daniel that you could find in also the book of Revelation.

But just, you know, I like teaching Sabbath school because I like the interaction and it takes the pressure off.

Prophecy, purity, lion's den, prophecy, prayer.

And we hear all these things he purposed in his heart that he will not defile himself the king's meat.

But also we know that Daniel, oh thank you, was also a man of prayer.

Now some of these pictures might be pixelated, but he was a man of prayer.

And how do we know that he was a man of prayer?

Yeah, yeah, he got in trouble for it, right?

We're just going to go through it real quick.

You know, Daniel was 10 times wiser than all the other wise men.

And because of his wisdom that God gave him, he found favor with the king and he was pretty much the highest in command, second to the king, right?

And what happens when you get promoted is not everybody will celebrate you, Right?

The best way to overcome jealousy and being envious of others is to celebrate them.

Well, not Everybody was happy with Daniel's success.

And so they they try to trick the king say hey king You like power?

What if for the next what is it like 30 days or so?

We made a law that says you can't pray to no other person or God except to you and if they do they get thrown into a lion's den and the king thought that was a good idea and they put into law but they're really trying to trap Daniel because Daniel had no fault the Bible says he was a good guy you know the Bible says as much as possible live at peace with God and with man.

In other words, be not only good Christians, but also good citizens.

He kept all the laws, and he couldn't find any fault, except had it to do with his God.

And so they try to trick the king and we know the story.

There was a law that you cannot pray, but Daniel still prayed.

He wasn't afraid or ashamed that people knew that he prayed.
