Living in Sin

May we see Jesus and not me or our phones or anything else that could possibly distract.

That we will sit at your feet and we will leave this place glowing with your glory.

If you'll do this for us, we will leave satisfied, we will be thankful, we will be grateful for having had this time together.

So the first night, we looked at some handful of texts that would give the story, should someone ask, of who we are as a people.

Why we are convicted that as a remnant people we have the message for this very hour.

Again, we don't believe that we're the only ones going to heaven.

We simply believe that we have been tasked with a mission.

And what an opportunity, what a blessing comes with heralding that call.

It means that we have the calling to demonstrate, not just proclaim, but to embrace and live out that story of which we are proclaiming.

Today, we looked a little bit at that story in Revelation 14, verses 6 and 7, and it was there that we noticed that if we don't get the first angel straight, then we really don't have any business trying to deliver the second and third angel.

I'll be honest with you, and you might know what I'm talking about.

There's quite a bit of danger that we can find on blogs, on YouTube videos, and some conspiracy type theories.

And it's even within our ranks, sometimes with the notion of focusing on the second and third angel, but leaving out the first angel.

And again, if you do that, you're just going to scare people, right?

But the moment they realize the message, the good news, the everlasting gospel of the first angel, The rest of it starts to make sense.

So with that, I just want to just rehearse with you briefly.

Fear God, give him glory, and worship him.

We noted that we fear God, that we see that demonstrated in the story of Abraham and Isaac.

When Abraham was told that, or said to have had, in Genesis 20, verse 12, it said that, or 22, verse 12, it says that Abraham feared the Lord and that he was willing to offer up his only son, Isaac.

It's when we give our best, when we give our all, when we surrender all to Jesus, that we are fearing God.

We saw that today in Romans 4 in verse 20, when again speaking of Abraham, it said that he took the promises of God as though they actually were, even though he and his wife, Sarah, his wife's womb were, for all practical purposes, dead.

But he took what God said and he believed it and it was granted unto him.

And so we give God glory when we take the mystery of God and we believe what he says, that Christ in you, the hope of glory, It's not some wishful, fanciful thought.

This is the real deal, that if I will day by day invite Jesus to sit on the throat of my heart, and if I will give him all of my life, saying yes to God with what?

All my known choices, then I could know, I can have the experience of giving God all the glory.

And then we noted that indeed the hour of his judgment has come.

And that may be troublesome, you know, judgment, oh, but again, judgment is something we desire if we are walking with Jesus.

It's, yeah, Anyway, Paul taught this, remember?

Taught it to Felix, Acts chapter 24, verse 24.

He invited, he shared with Felix the faith in God, and when he did so, the text says he spoke about righteousness and about judgment.

And Jesus said that when we have the Spirit, we will be proclaiming a message of judgment.

And again, it makes sense that it would entail judgment because the sanctuary story tells of the Day of Atonement and how God works to cleanse the sanctuary, just like he's seeking to cleanse you as he seeks to dwell in your heart.

And then we looked at this notion of worship and we noted that indeed, worship is something that is the result of this experience that we have with fearing God and giving him glory.

It's something that in its best form is giving obedience to God.

But if you wanna see worship at its best, you will see a child of God saying yes to God with all his no choices.

And we do that, we celebrate that reality of the new covenant, of Christ in you, the hope of glory.

We celebrate that from week to week as we celebrate the rest of the Sabbath.

And of course, we also worship Him because He's not only our Creator, but He will make all things new.

Tonight I want to look at the second angel's message, and it's in Revelation 14, 8.

And another angel followed, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made All nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.

Now, fornication at its simplest form is just this.

It's mixing 2 things or 2 people, 2 ideas, 2 things that don't belong together.

It could be a man and a woman who don't have any business being together, fornication.

It could be blending 2 ideas that have no business being together, fornication.

Fornication is putting 2 things together that have no business being together.

If you go to Daniel chapter 2, you'll find that in Daniel 2, it tells us the history of the nations, right?

You're familiar with this if you give Bible studies or you've been to a prophecy series.

And you know from your study of Daniel 2 that it starts out with Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, Rome, and what's the feat?

Iron and clay that don't belong together.

What does Spirit of Prophecy tell us about that iron and clay?

It tells us that these 2 things don't belong together and it associates it with church and state.

These 2 things don't go together and evidently Babylon is, I mean, yeah, Babylon is guilty of that.

You go back to the story of the Tower of Babel, the history of Babylon, and there you find that the Tower of Babel was built for the purpose of making a name for themselves.

In fact, when we developed our name as a Seventh-day Adventist, it was first proposed by the most honest name in town, the honest gentleman in town, whose name I can't remember, Hewitt, I think.

And He said that he proposed, his motion was that we give ourselves the name Seventh-day Adventist.

But you know that motion didn't run through?

Now I know we're Seventh-day Adventist, but did you know his motion did not go through?

Because they were going to take a name unto themselves, and they did not want to be like Babel.

Instead, they decided to make a motion that stated that they would be called Seventh-day Adventists, and thus they refused to take the name.

That's how important this was to our pioneers.

And so they, Babel made a name for themselves.

They made this tower, and in the tower, they had places of residence, and they also had places where they had their idolatrous worship.

And this was just a, you know, the up-and-coming place to the high rise in town.

This was for the purpose of not only making a name to themselves, but to avoid the death should another flood strike the earth.

So it was built on the premise of denying the word of God.

It was built with the turning and rejecting what God had said.

But it was, and so you could say it was at its core, not only rejecting the word of God, but it was an attempt to save themselves by their own works.

You go to Babylon in Daniel's time with Nebuchadnezzar.

He says, is this not great Babylon that I have built?

Again, Babylon is built on the premise of man's strength and not God's.

It's the antithesis of the first angel's message.
