01 The Third Angel’s Message and Health

Father in heaven, we're thankful tonight.

We can spend some moments in your word and thank you for the week where we could labor, 6 days, so that thou labor and do all thy work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God, and thou shalt not do any work.

And we're thankful for that, so that we can rest and think thoughts about you, be nafash, refreshed.

So bless us as we think about your word tonight in Christ's name.

We've been looking at a series on the 3 angels, messages, and health.

And some of you have been here for each 1 of those, and some of you were on spring break, et cetera.

So you might want to go back and watch some of these.

I'm working on a little book on this subject.

And the more I get into it, the more I realize it might not be a little book, because there is so much in the 3 Angels.

And we're looking at the Third Angel's message in health tonight.

We may not plumb the depths of it because it is such a large message, but maybe just 1 major point, looked at several different ways tonight.

So, of course, the 3 angels' messages are the last 3 messages before the second coming, which is mentioned in Revelation 14, 14 and 15, thrust in your sickle and rake for the time of harvest has come.

And this reaping is of course the second coming.

But before that second coming, there is a message.

I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel, to preach to them that dwell on the earth, saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him, for the hour of his judgment is come.

And worship him, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and the fountains of living water." That first angel's message is that message of the everlasting gospel, the timeline is wild, the hour of his judgment has come.

And then the second angel's message, Babylon has fallen, has fallen because she made all the nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her foundation.

And we studied that in our last message and looked at the health aspects of drinking and sexual immorality as it relates to the second angel's message.

And now the third angel's message, verse 9 through 13 in Revelation chapter 14.

Then the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, you can read this with me so we are together.

If anyone worships the beast and his image and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of his indignation.

He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.

And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever, and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.

Here is the patience of the saints, here are those who keep the commandments of God and have the faith of Jesus.

Then I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, Right, blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.

Yes, says the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors and their works follow them." How many think there's enough there to think about for a while?

And I'm tempted to talk about it all but I can't and I just want to look at maybe 1 thing.

In a special sense, some of the Adventists have been set in the world as watchmen and light bearers.

To them has been entrusted the last warning for a perishing world.

So when you look at that message, it's not a threat, it's a warning.

Is there a difference between a threat and a warning?

Yeah, so this is actually a warning that there's 3 messages before Christ is coming again and it's a warning saying, hey look don't go that direction and a warning for a perishing world.

They have been given a work of most solemn import, the proclamation of the first, second, and third angels' messages.

There is no other works of so great importance now you might think well you don't get out much if you don't think but no this is the most important work There's no other work of so great importance than proclaiming these messages because everything's at stake, right?

They are to allow nothing else to absorb their attention.

So how many of you have been working on sharing the 3 angels messages this week?

How many would say you have not been involved in sharing the 3 Angels message this week?

Okay, there's actually more hands that have said they're not than are.

But no other work is so great and important.

They allow nothing else to absorb their attention.

And I've been trying to do this all week, especially in this sense.

Health reform is to stand out more prominently in the proclamation of the Third Angel's message.

The gospel of health is to be firmly linked with the ministry of the Word.

That's what I've been doing all week, linking the gospel of health with the ministry of the Word and the Third Angel's message.

It is the Lord's design that the restoring influence of health reform shall be part of the last great effort to proclaim the what message?

The point is I mean people are under the devil's spell The whole world is held in the sway, it says in 1 John 5, of the wicked 1.

They're kind of lulled to sleep, rocked to sleep.

And this warning is to wake them up and say, wait a minute, there's good news.

And you're gonna miss out unless you have this warning.

1 important part of there, that is the minister's work, is to faithfully present to the people the health reform as it stands connected with the third angels message as part and parcel of the same work.

The health reform is a part of the third angels message and is just as closely connected with this message as the arm and hand with the human body.

Just grab onto your hand for a minute and your arm.

If it's not connected, you know, Alaway talks about this, too.

It's kind of, you know, you see an arm or hand on the road, it would kind of worry you a bit if it's not connected to the body.

She says, if you're not connecting this work of health with the body, it's like that.

And so this last week I'm working with a, actually a hospital system that has lost their way and they said, look, we need to get reconnected.

And I'm very excited about what they're saying.

We wanna send people to be trained so that we can actually reach the doctors and nurses in our hospital and the people in the community.

Now, a basic principle of health reform indicated that transgression of the laws of the human organism was a moral issue.

This is from Gerard Domstik's book on the foundations of Adventist theology.

But I want you to get the idea of how closely this was tied.

The idea is that health reform is a transgression of the laws of the human organism, it's a moral issue and thus sinful, and so it's like the transgression of the law of God, the Decalogue.

And when this happened in the early Adventist mind, they said, wow, this is important.

It's actually part of the third angel's message because the third angel's message shows those who are worshiping the beast in his image and receiving the number of his name and his mark.

And by the way, lest you not understand how that's connected to the law of God, in Revelation 13 you have the beast and all the world is called upon to do what?

Worship the beast, which is breaking the first commandment, making an image to the beast, which is breaking the second commandment about making an image, taking the name and number of the beast, which is taking the name of God in vain, and receiving the mark of the beast, which is the image of the beast writ large in terms of the Sabbath, not keeping the Sabbath.

And so this law of God is tied up with the third angel's message.

It's basically summarizing how the beast power and how the dragon behind the beast power is causing everyone at the end of time to break God's 10 Commandment Law, namely the vertical connection, that being the first 5 commandments, right.

So this connection was made, it was at this point that the integration of health reform into the third angel's message took place because its central theme summoned the observance of God's commandments 1 of which is thou shalt not kill.

And so the early Advent believers they said wait a minute this is part of the reason we exist and it's serious business.

We need to call people to obedience to the laws of nature, which supported obedience to God's commandment, an object similar to the mission of the third angel's message.

So you have this whole group of people that came into being in the 1840s and 30s and 40s and they began to study about Christ coming again.

When he didn't come, this group came out and began to proclaim the first, second, and third angels' message in a new way.

Fear God, we learned that in our first message, means to trust God, to have obedience, which is the fruit of faith.

So the faith of Jesus, or faith in Jesus, because of the faith He gives you, leads to obedience to the faith.

That trust is shown in obedience not to get his love but because you have his love.

And this fearing of God then leads to longevity.

We looked at those texts together, how the fear of God is directly tied to longevity.

02 The Ultimate Motivator

Well, today we're going to talk about the third angel's message, which is what we just read or what we just heard in Revelation chapter 14.

So you may want to open your Bible again there to Revelation chapter 14 so you have it in front of you.

But we've been in a series, for those of you who just joined us today, on Revelation's 3 angels' messages.

And essentially, In our first time, we're looking at this through a health lens.

And as we're looking here through a health lens, we've noticed that there's a stark contrast that there's a stark contrast between the first angel's message and the second angel's message.

Let me just tell you what this is because I put the builds in wrong.

But anyway, the first angel's message and the second angel's message, the first angel's message in verse 6 and 7 said, "'I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, "'having the everlasting gospel to preach to those "'who dwell on the earth, saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him, for the hour of his judgment is come.

And worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea, and the fountains of living water.

So that first angel's message is the everlasting gospel, God's spell, people come under it, everyone.

The way it's transmitted is by preaching and persuading, and they learn to fear God, which means to trust God, and they drink of the living water, they have rest, salvation rest and Sabbath rest, they give God glory, whatever they eat, whatever they drink, whatever they do, and As a result of that, studies have shown that this group of people that have been preaching this message now for over 150 years live longer than the rest of the population, pretty much around the world.

And they live 10 to 20 years longer than anyone else.

And this is a fact of history, and it's shown in several studies we looked at last week.

The Adventist Mortality Study, Adventist Health Study number 1, and Adventist Health Study number 2, and the Religion and Health Study, and numerous other studies, about 500 different studies or more, show that actually this first angel's message actually fulfills the bill in Revelation 14, verse 13, where it says, their works will follow them.

Blessed are those who die in the Lord, and their works will follow them.

And Adventists live a long time, and it's because of the preaching of this message.

Now how many think that's somewhat interesting?

So when you're looking at a church, you want to find a church that actually not only has doctrine but also track record and scientific research that backs it up, that's positive, Adventist church is a good place to start.

Now the second angel's message is different.

It says Babylon has fallen, has fallen, that great city because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.

So Babylon has fallen, first time it fell, Old Testament, we looked at that in Daniel 5.

Second time it falls, it falls because of the same things, because she made all nations drink, so there's alcohol, of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.

So there's sexual immorality and alcohol together.

And fornication is just a word that means all sexual immorality, not just sex outside of marriage in the actually original language.

And You see, those people are under what the Bible calls the devil's spell, everyone is reached, every nation.

It's mandated, she caused all nations to drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.

They have no fear of God, but they trust the devil.

Instead of having rest and clarity there, they're in a stupor.

And they glorify the ungodly and ungodly acts as defined by scripture and they live essentially 10 to 20 years less, actually much less than that now that I've studied more, much less than that on average.

So the first angel's message is a picture of life longer here and eternal life.

The second angel's message is a picture of life longer here and eternal life.

The second angel's message is a picture of shorter life here and eternal death.

And the third angel's message, the third angel's message, what we're studying today, is a message that's basically saying, please choose life, not death.

So that's the whole idea of the third angel's message.

Now I hope that made sense, even though my builds of my slides were a little off.

When you're talking to someone who's drunk, I used to work in various emergency departments, Chicago, Florida, Michigan, didn't matter where I worked.

And getting a message through to them that they're going to listen is a challenge.

And they'll just laugh at you or ignore you.

But if any of you have ever worked in alcohol rehab, you know, I worked there for a number of years, or in various settings, or psychiatric units where people are drunk maybe on controlled or uncontrolled substances, it can be a challenge to get through to someone who's drunk.

I saw another angel fall and saying, Babylon is fallen, it's fallen.

The great city because She's made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of fornication.

Now there's another group of people that's very hard to talk to and that's the people who are involved in some kind of romantic or lustful relationship even.

You try and reason with people like this?

How many of you ever tried to reason with someone who's in love with the wrong 1 baby?

You know that the person they're with is just not right.

As a pastor, sometimes I've had to tell people, I'm not gonna marry you because you're wrong for each other.

I've never ever saying that, but I remember I said it to this 1 lady and she goes, you know, you're a bad pastor, you're spiritually abusive, you're using your position not in a way to help us with our love, but with your agenda.

And I said, well look, there's other pastors.

I just, you know, I have to maintain my ethics as well, and maintain yours, and so I'm not saying don't get married by someone else, just not me.

She got married, 2 weeks later I got a call from the emergency room, I went to see her, I didn't recognize her.

But she would not listen before that happened.

So would you agree that talking to drunk people or people in love is a hard challenge?

And sometimes they do crazy things, and that's the picture.

I mean, even this week, Church of England votes in favor of blessing same-sex unions.

They know, this is this, you know, the last month, they know that every church that has done that has lost millions of members, and the church has basically imploded.

Presbyterians, Methodists, every church that's done that, they basically have disintegrated, largely because the Bible says not to do that.

And so why go to a church that says they believe the Bible when they're not going to believe that?

For the first time the Church of England will publicly, unreservedly, and joyfully welcome same-sex couples in the church.

Now the whole church is in even more crisis.

The global south is saying they're gonna leave, and many people within the Church of England as well.

Now by the way, lest you think it's a small thing, because we live in such a inaccurate age, same-sex marriage, same-sex relationships of any kind are not good for your health at all, by any stretch of any imagination anywhere And you don't hear that so often, but I'll just show you some of the research here Well this let me just read the the bottom line 1 Diagnosis of HIV translates to as much as 26 to 27 year loss of life.

But many other variants of that, and this is being suppressed because of a very strong lobbying agenda.

Church of England considers now abandoning Christianity.

They reason that because they no longer want to use male pronouns to reference God, they're ignoring the words of Jesus who used male pronouns to reference God.

So notice, their ideas of sexuality are influencing whether or not they want to be Christian.

Because if they're ignoring the words of Christ they reason, they're no longer following Christ.

They don't believe what he believes when it comes to gender and so they no longer are Christian.

How many of you are Thinking you're hearing some drunken people talking right now.

When I read it, I was like, I can't believe it.

Now, queer theology may sink the Church of England, British monarchy, and Commonwealth.

Ever since the Queen died, which wasn't that long ago, they're saying, our country is losing control.

Now, by the way, I think these people are on the right track that are concerned because 5 of the 10 Commandments actually proclaim not same-sex marriage but heterosexual marriage.
