What is a Woman?

This sermon is for me first before it's for anyone.

And a day is coming, we're going to stand before your throne on that sea of glass and we're just going to say, Lord, you did it.

And it was by faith alone in the power of Jesus Christ.

And so tonight we are here by faith, ready and eager for you to move, for you to speak.

We know that your word is a double-edged sword and it cuts asunder, but we know that you also heal and you mend and you transform.

So give us the mind and the heart to receive and to leave from here transformed by faith.

We ask all these favors in your precious name, Amen.

Have any of you heard about this documentary called What is a Woman?

So there's a documentary called What is a Woman and this question, And that's the title for my sermon tonight.

This question seems to be the main question that nobody can answer for the past few years.

Nobody can answer the question, what is a woman?

This is serious, because if you don't know what a woman is, then we don't know what a man is.

But tonight we're not talking about just what we hear on the news, because what I have been realizing, and I'm going to be sharing over the course of this weekend 4 lessons that I've been learning since getting married and this question is 1 of those that have been on my mind since becoming a wife, and I thought I could answer this question until I became a wife.

And it doesn't mean that you have to be a wife in order to answer this question.

But for those who are married or have been married at some point, you know that marriage begins to test you on a certain level that other things just doesn't.

And so we're going to look at 3 pillars of womanhood tonight.

And as I speak, I want you to remember that when you stand as a woman, it's not just about you.

And too many times we get very caught up and think the universe revolves around you.

As you walk and as you talk, you represent something.

You represent something much higher than any of us could ever comprehend.

So when I talk about womanhood tonight, I am not talking about you.

I'm talking about something much greater.

So as I say the difficult things, swallow, say a prayer to the Lord, write it down so I could say I disagree with Felicia and I wanna ask this question later but I'm gonna pray about it and then ask the question later.

There is something so splendid that I just realized last year in Genesis chapter 2 when God talks about the creation of man and woman.

By the way, you want to make sure as many men are here tomorrow as possible.

Yes, this is a woman's weekend, but tomorrow I also want to speak to men.

And the Lord God said, it is not good that a man should be alone.

I will make him a helper comparable to him.

Out of the ground, the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them.

And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name.

So Adam gave to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to the every beast of the field names.

But for Adam, there was not a helper found comparable to him.

And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept.

And he took 1 of his ribs and closed up the flesh in its place.

Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man, he made into a woman.

And he brought her to Adam and Adam said, this is now bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh.

She shall be called a woman because she was taken out of man.

According to this passage, what we read, we're going to use our imagination, then when we get to heaven, God is going to explain it fully.

God creates Adam and God says, it's not good.

This is the first time in all of creation God says something is not good.

Up to that point he's been saying light, good, land, good, water, good, all this good.

Then he gets to Adam, man, by himself and God says not good.

He starts creating creatures and it's just a pageant of creatures just elephants and lions and giraffes and zebras and all this stuff.

And God is parading these animals in front of Adam.

Is it just that God is bringing the animals to Adam to name them?

God is not just wanting Adam to name the creatures.

And then verse 19, so after 18 when God says it is not good, I will make a helper comparable to him and verse 19 says, and God formed the creatures.

So the creatures are passing in front of Adam and he's naming them, naming them, naming them.

And after Adam names the creatures, it says, so Adam gave names to all the creatures, the birds of the air, but for Adam, there was not found a helper comparable to him.

So then God puts Adam to sleep and the Bible when we read it, it says that God out of the rib God made the woman.

That word is actually different than the word used to create man.

The word it uses for woman is built in Hebrew.

That God used Adam's rib and he built a woman.

When you are building something, you are thinking what is going to be the function of this thing?

What is going to be the function of this thing?

What is going to be the purpose of this thing?

And you are taking very careful attention to every detail of it as you build this thing.

Man was made, and it's not that man is any less than a woman.

But man was made, but you as a woman, you were built.

You were designed for something very, very special.

And God said, I am building you to be a helper.

Now, I don't know about you, but when I read something like this, God, you made me to be a helper, I am thinking an assistant.

My mom is from Haiti, never learned to read or write.
