Brainwashed or Brain-cleansed

So the title of this sermon is Brainwashed or Brain Cleansed?

And we're going to talk about brainwashing.

So in 1924, the Neva River that flows right through St.

It had done this many times and it would flood, I don't know, every other decade.

And as it flooded, the streets, the homes, the businesses in St.

Petersburg started to accumulate water and it started flooding.

The waters rose higher and higher in the town of St.

Petersburg and the people started getting busy evacuating.

Petersburg called the Institute of Experimental Medicine, and in this lab they used dogs in their scientific experiments.

And all the dogs were in their kennels after the end of the conclusion of every day.

They would put dogs in their kennels, they would lock them up for the evening until the next day when they, you know, commence their work.

Well, these dogs were locked in their kennels and the lab started flooding.

And the dogs started getting very nervous.

At first the water was up to their paws and then the water continued to pour into that laboratory and eventually it came up to their chest and as the water started rising the dogs started getting very nervous.

They started yelping, you know, making whining noises, started barking.

Eventually the flood got so severe the dogs were literally floating in their kennels.

Mind you, these dogs, they're locked in their kennels.

And the dogs started yelping frantically.

Well, finally, the water got so deep inside that laboratory that the water filled almost the entire kennel and the dogs were only able to survive by popping their little noses out the top of the cage and just barely breathing as the water was just completely overwhelming them.

Well, thankfully, 1 of the dog handlers that worked at the lab happens to remember that these dogs were locked in their kennels at this lab.

And so he rushed through the flooded streets of St.

Petersburg, attempting to get there in time, and he got there just in time.

And he was able to save these dogs, but in order to get these dogs out of their kennels, he had to push his hand through their kennel cage and shove their heads under the water to get them to come out of the entrance.

Well naturally this was a very traumatizing and terrifying event for these dogs.

And after the flood subsided, you know, the workers came back and cleaned up the lab.

They found that the dogs, as they commented, were never the same.

Dogs that previously were very meek were now very aggressive.

Dogs previously that were very gregarious and outgoing were now very timid and very shy.

And as they stated it, it was as if an entirely new being had inhabited each dog.

Not just that, something very fascinating that they found out at the lab, they found that the dogs had completely forgotten all the complex learning that they had acquired while working at the lab.

Their memories had been wiped totally clean.

The scientists talked about it for weeks.

This was a very unusual phenomenon that no 1 had really observed before, and they went back and forth discussing it, and this occurrence probably would never had become known outside the lab except for the fact that this was not a normal lab.

This happened to be the lab of a man by the name of Ivan Pavlov.

Also famous for Pavlov's salivating dogs, Pavlov syndrome, also called classical conditioning.

And I remember in my history book seeing that section on Pavlov and, you know, the little illustration of the dog, and, you know, they'd ring the bell and the saliva would start going the dog, and do you remember seeing that in your history book or your science book.

The word got out to the recently installed communist Marxist leader Nikolai Lenin, who upon hearing of this event immediately went down to the lab and personally visited it and sat down and talked with Pavlov.

Lenin came to him and he said that he wanted to know how to shape human behavior to conform to communist thinking.

Pavlov said, do you mean to standardize the Russian people that you wish to make them all behave in the same way?

Lenin said, exactly, And you're going to help us.

And what they discovered through this random occurrence with these dogs and the completely wiping of their memories through this traumatic event, is they found out that when you combine trauma and isolation, it leads to brain wiping, later coined brain washing.

Lenin and Pavlov, and later Pavlov and Stalin, would employ mass stressors on the Russian population in the next several decades in attempts to traumatize and brainwash them into conformity to communist thinking and principles.

Lenin's revolution resulted in, get this, over 8 million deaths of his own people, Russian citizens.

It involved civil war, involved famines, and involved of course brutal domestic oppression of his own people by starvation, by torture, or summary execution, that that country was absolutely brutalized by the leadership.

However, Pavlov was always protected, he was always supported through all the ups and downs of the Communist Party because he was considered such a vital part of that system.

I got this story from a book entitled Dark Persuasion by Dr.

Joel Dimmesdale, who is a professor at a university in San Diego.

And the reason why he wrote the book he did on brainwashing is he got interested in the entire topic when neighbors of his joined the Heaven's Gate cult led by Marshall Applewhite.

Who remembers that cult, the Heaven's Gate cult?

And there was that comet, it was a hail bop, and they were supposed to go hop on that comet and go to the stars.

Well, this man, this university professor's neighbors literally joined that cult.

Eventually, they castrated themselves, committed suicide in attempts to go to the stars with Marshall Applewhite.

And he said, you know, when it's a person on a TV screen, it's 1 thing, but when it happens to your neighbors, people that you knew and had talked to, it's something else.

And it got him very interested in, how did my neighbors get caught up into this?

How do people get caught up into these crazy things?

And he started researching the topic of brainwashing.

And in his book he brings out several very obvious and interesting instances of brainwashing.

We think of Stockholm Syndrome with the most famous case, Patty Hearst, who those of you who know, were around during that time or know your history know, a very bizarre case.

This woman who was abducted, Patty Hearst, the daughter of a very, very wealthy media tycoon, billionaire, ended up becoming sympathetic and even joining her captors and even conducting big robberies with them.

Another really fascinating instance that he brings out is what happened during the Korean War.

During the Korean War, as what happens with many wars, there's prisoners of war, and many of our American soldiers were, well not many, but you know a subset of American soldiers were captured by the Koreans in the Korean War.

Well after the conclusion of the Korean War the United States population was absolutely floored when 20, about 20 prisoners of war in Korea refused to come home.

And the American public was just absolutely flabbergasted.

Why would you choose to stay with your captors instead of go home to your family, go home to your native country?

What happened to them in these prison camps?

A retired US intelligence agent, Edward Hunter, he wrote a book about it, where he used the term for the first time, brainwashing.

That's where the term brainwashing was coined.

And what he discovered is that these POWs were treated, and get this, catch this, with a mixture of brutality and kindness.

Is Satan always just a hundred percent mean?

Does Satan sometimes give you what you want?

Does Satan sometimes please you and give you things that are nice?

And they also had an unusual methodicalness to their system of torture.

These soldiers received what they called ceaseless propaganda, ceaseless propaganda, and they forced them to write long confessions of war crimes.

They would also put them in groups, they would separate them in groups, catch this, they would separate them into groups, and they would get them to denounce each other and they would pin them against each other.

Also, these poor men were the subjects of extreme brutality.

Just to give you a picture and understanding, the amount of prisoner of war deaths in Korea was extremely high.

Consider that the American prisoners of war in Germany during World War II, the death rate was about 4%.

In Vietnam, the death rate of American prisoners of war was 16%.

So they were the recipients of extreme brutality.

And why do I share this depressing information?

I'm sharing this information, friends, because our world is coming up to a great crisis.

I could say it's coming up to the great crisis.
