Hopefully we could get through everything, but I want to start first with.

Let's pray first and we are going to ask a few questions.

Father in heaven, thank you for gathering us here once more.

Lord, today's topic is going to be for some of us uncomfortable.

Maybe it's something that we disdain, not all of us desires to be online.

But we know that Maybe there is something here that we haven't tapped into.

That Adventists who used to be in the forefront of innovation, maybe we have fallen a little bit behind.

It is good to know all these things, and we desire to know more, for You are the Creator of the world, and You have some amazing ideas.

But, Father, we want to let your Holy Spirit lead today, open up our hearts to understand, and maybe that we can gain some, just 1 thing out of this breakout, out of this seminar, to apply it to our lives so that ultimately we will hasten the coming of Christ.

All right, let's start with some questions.

I want to know what you are expecting today from this seminar, this breakout.

I want to understand exactly maybe a few things that you're looking for.

And we hope to cover those things for you.

Because ultimately, this is not for us, right?

And so we don't want to waste your time while you're here And we need your participation because we want you to get something out of this.

I know you've been talking about the content, but I'm also hoping that we might say more about the behavior of people.

So not just content on Facebook, but what we should say or we shouldn't say.

Woo, there, that goes deep, that goes Deve.

Okay, does the authority, maybe a pastor answering on Facebook or social media, is there a difference between an authoritative position or person in that position sharing or talking in there and a lay person I would say.

You're looking forward to, again, this is for you.

How to use it to enhance the local ministry.

All right, so we are going to try to cover most of the things that we just asked, okay?

Because those are very good questions to ask.

How many of you here have a social media account currently?

Okay, we do have a few hands who don't have 1.

Do you have 1 for your ministry or business?

Okay, just a little bit less, but about the same.

If Ellen White had a Facebook, what would she do?

Before we get started, and we're going to share this in the end as well.

We do have 10-day daily devotionals So if you want to receive devotionals to your email every single day for the 10 days Basically making Bible practical.

I want you to scan and you you'll be getting those free devotionals and I'll share this in the evening or at the end as well.

I Just love some of the stories that my wife is a writer and we share some personal things to share the Bible.

That's why I think it needs to be real life.

And before we jump into the discussion, I'm going to give you a little bit of a background about us.

So we have combined 10 plus years in media, radio, television.

My husband also does a lot of time management.

This is why my life is a lot more organized.

We've also trained churches here in the United States, in Jamaica, in India, around the world, training them, How can we utilize the cell phones, the internet, to share the gospel?

And we have right now devoted our lives to helping Christian businesses and ministries reach thousands of people online.

Almost half of the world's population is online.

So before I go into this, a little bit of a personal story.

I am from the islands, specifically the Bahamas.

Some of you might be familiar with this story.

When we got married, a common food item is rice.

And Asians, generally speaking, when they cook rice, make it white, plain, no salt.

And the Caribbean, many of us who are from the Caribbean, we have to season our rice and we have to use salt.

So you have this conflict, salt or no salt.

How many of you would say that the way to solve the issue is to just get rid of the salt totally?

We have 234 persons that say get rid of the salt totally.

Coaching Like Jesus

So those of you who got here on time, we'll get the whole thing.

Hard to fit in a whole program and training program we do in 75 minutes, but we'll give you an introduction to it.

Before we start, let's just bow our heads for a word of prayer.

Father, as we spend this time together, we just pray your Holy Spirit will be with us.

And may we learn ways to connect with people and reflect your image to them in this special way.

So did everybody get 1 of these handouts?

And basically all this is is to give you an idea of what we're covering, but also it gives you the opportunity to download all of our material that we have so far.

And so if you are, if there's some neat things you see up on the slide, you don't have to take a picture of it if you just, because you can have a whole thing in a very nice format, which you'll basically have a PDF of the PowerPoints that way.

And also, you will have a PDF of this workbook.

We're not gonna be covering everything that's in here because this is an introduction to a program that we're gonna be rolling out to the churches.

So I am the president of the Adventist Association of Health and Wellness Coaching, which is connected with the NAD.

And in our coaching program, in fact, you can go online, go to NAD Health or NAD.org, or health.org, and sign up to be on, be a member of the Adventist Coaching Association.

And that is for people who either are coaches, or a lay coach, in other words, you're not certified, but you're doing some of that, or you're just interested in coaching.

I think the dues are like $40 for 2 years.

I don't know, that may seem a little high, but not bad at all.

And it's a place where you can interact, you can grow and you can learn and know more and more about coaching.

So as we talk about coaching, let me just tell you a little bit about my background on that.

I am actually a health ministry director for Rocky Mountain Conference, And I've worked at Weimar for 5 years, Heartland for 2 years, and have done a lot of programs like CHIP and other things.

And something that was really disturbing to me is people who do really well in their programs.

And then when they got home, so many of them would just kind of drop back to where they were before.

We didn't bring them there to get healthy.

And in fact, their goal was not to be healthy for a week, a month.

And so I got, and I couldn't find an answer to that problem until I got into coaching.

And most of the coaching was done over the phone.

And so we say, hey, we could support people and we can help them from our centers and from home.

And what I also envision is each of you could learn how to be the most important team member on 1 of those lifestyle centers to be able to say, hey, we could have coaches all over that could be there to support them and to help them.

And So I got in touch with the NAD Health Ministry leader, Angie David at the time, Angie Brower now, and I got her ear and said, this is the missing link to health work.

I used to ask people, how many of you think that the health work is the right arm of the gospel?

And then I throw you a little curve and say, I used to think that too.

And if we have people who are coming through and we're not supporting them afterwards, we are misrepresenting the character of God.

Because he is a God who is with us all the time, and when we just dump them and we're not with them anymore, we're misrepresenting him.

And besides, who wants to come to another program that we put on if the last 1 failed?

So we think that the health work is gonna lead them to something else, but not if we're not supporting them, not if they're not continuing with it.

And so coaching has become a really passion of mine because of that.

And I think it's a missing area on making our health work and other areas very powerful.

Last night, or actually this morning I was waking up and I think maybe God talks to me about that time and it's like, oh, I got an idea.

And so I have to get up and write it down.

But 1 of those is, we are really good in the church about getting information out.

I mean, we are really good at telling, we are really good at preaching, and we have lots of information.

We're really good at telling, but we don't listen to people.

And I really believe that as we look at this, We have some great preachers who get this information out, but the catalyst is missing.

The catalyst that makes that work, and that is our members who then are connecting on an individual and a personal manner, in a personal way, with those people who heard that information.

So the gospel's much more than just information.

It is information, but we will never see the work done, I believe, in the right way until we connect with people in a personal manner with that information.

And so that's the reason for the LIFT program.

And so I may repeat some of the things I just said, but let's start looking at it.

You know, I listen to people, they say, not another program.

I mean, you go through all these booths and it's like, why?

And I say, I don't want to just have another program.

And so Lyft is not another program, it's a skill to be used by every program.

And I believe every program needs this particular skill.

We're just adding a dimension to everything else that we do.

Now, not literally, we might do that too, but we bump into people all during the day.

I just think about the guy I was sitting next to on the plane, and he wanted to talk the whole time.

I didn't have to go out looking out for him.

So learning how to connect, learning how to talk to them is very powerful.

So we connect with them and then we lift them.

And you're like, what does that mean, lift them?

And this is just what I had said earlier.

We're good at telling, but we need to get better at asking questions and listening.

And that's what I needed to know how to do with this guy sitting next to me, asking the right questions, listening to him.

In fact, if They had an AA program for, it could be tellers anonymous.

In other words, I just wanna tell people instead of, and the way to break out of that and the solution for tellers anonymous is to learn how to listen and how to ask questions.

For instance, Jesus was good at asking questions.

And at the same time, he was good at telling.

And so as we as a church can actually have all aspects of that, where we're giving the message, but we as the army are the ones who are connecting with those people who come to the evangelistic program.

We're connecting and listening to ones who come to a health program, we're calling up and helping that person continue to improve after they go home.

That balances us in the same way that Jesus was balanced in the way he worked.

So I'm gonna tell you a story because I think this illustrates the point as well.

And I was thinking, you know, if I have just 75 minutes to do this, I better not tell stories.

My wife and I were on the train from Germany over to Innsbruck, and if any of you have ridden on the trains there, the seats face each other.

And so you're facing these people, you're just going to sit there and stare at them.

And if my clock is correct, we're 1 minute ahead of schedule.

So we'll just wait another few seconds here, see who wants to come and join us.

I'm going to pray as we begin this morning because we're in trouble if we don't pray.

Because we think that we heard 1 thing when God was saying something else to us.

So what we're gonna pray this morning is that no matter what I say, you'll hear what God wants you to hear.

I'm going to do my best to say what God has put on my heart to say.

And somewhere in there is a message for each 1 of you because you didn't come here by accident.

This is God's plan that we beat together in this place this morning.

Father in heaven we come to you today what a blessing it is to be able to be with your family.

But today Lord we are praying that the words that I speak will be only your words and that what each person hears will be your word for them.

We know that you have promised us the Holy Spirit.

So we're praying for the Holy Spirit today.

Please pour out your spirit in this place and on us as individuals in Jesus name we pray, Amen.

I'm currently serving as president for Outpost Centers International.

We're based in Appison, Tennessee, a few hours from here, a few hours, 10 hours from here, whatever it is.

But Outpost Centers International is a global organization that has about 280 ministries scattered in about 75 countries of the world.

This year we are conducting about 15 events in different regions of the world with the purpose to inspire lay people to recognize their calling and to be ready and willing to be engaged in God's work, sent by God to do something to help finish this work of getting the gospel to the world.

And this morning I want to share just briefly with you a little bit about my personal journey.

I did not train to be a non-profit organization administrator.

I did not plan to be an organizational non-profit administrator.

But by God's design and His direction, that's what I do today.

My parents both attended Madison College in Madison, Tennessee.

So they volunteered to go help start a new school from Madison.

They went there in the 1950s, and actually they showed up on campus in 1956.

So I was born in supporting ministry work.

I did not always engage with my history though.

When I graduated from high school, I took a degree in engineering, and I worked in the engineering field for about 10 years.

During that time, it seemed like God was speaking to us, and my wife is here today, Brenda, wave so people know who you are.

But during that time, we began to feel like God had something else for us to do.

It wasn't that we weren't active in our local church.

It wasn't that we weren't engaged in working for God.

But it just seemed like there was something else, some other plan, some additional steps maybe that God wanted us to take.

And so as we thought about that the logical solution to me was that I should go somewhere in the world in a foreign setting and engage in doing something with my engineering skills and serving God.

He kept that door closed as we investigated different opportunities, as we looked at different situations and said, Lord, isn't there somewhere we can serve you somewhere on this planet?

Using Maybe my skills as an engineer and I can go and help in a developing country somewhere And I can help people with different things, but God kept that door closed Until 1 day we got a call from None other than Harbord Hills Academy where I was born and raised, and they said, would you come back and help us?

Our principal just took a call to the ministry and we need a principal.

But God opened that door, and in 1991, we went there.

32 years and some months later we'll still be there.

Along the way, during that journey of the last 30 something years, my father got me involved in ASI.

Now, I don't know if he had, you know, greater designs than I had, but my first exposure to ASI was just attending a meeting.

He invited me even while I was working as an engineer he invited me our family to go with him we showed up in Montana in a little place called Glacier View and we showed up there the same time 3ABN did, and they began to tell their story about how God was doing some things somewhere in this little place to develop a ministry that they imagined would reach the world.

And I heard those stories, And I went home.

We became involved in the work of ASI, and eventually I was served as president for ASI for 6 years.

After that was finished, the Lord invited me to continue my journey and to serve as president of Outpost Centers International.

That's my personal journey where God has led me 1 step at a time, opening doors, closing doors, directing my path, engaging me in his work in a way that I would never have imagined.

I never thought that I would be in a situation where I was leading a global organization supporting the mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and helping lay people to do a better job of engaging in mission.

And it's kind of a surprise to me, honestly.

I think back to the time when I was a child, playing in the dirt piles.

And I thought, God, what did, you know, you're pretty amazing.

So wherever you've come from today, whatever your journey is to this point, I wanna tell you something, God has further plans for you.

In fact, the way God, I have seen God work is he does not open the future to us and show us long distances into the future.

But what he tends to do is he tends to take us just a little bit at a time because if he opened the whole future we would be scared to death.

We'd probably panic, you know, say you know God, that's not for me.

However, God is faithful and He takes us on a journey.

My journey, God gave me personally a verse of scripture that you find in Isaiah chapter 40 and I just want to share it with you because some of you may need that as well.

And it says this Isaiah chapter 40 and verse, let's just do here verse 29, He giveth power to the faint, and to them that hath no might He increases strength.

Even the youth shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall.

But they that wait upon the Lord shall, what?

Renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint.

They shall mount up with wings as eagles.

They shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint.

There's a few of you that are under that age.

And by God's grace, even when we are getting some age on us, God still has a plan.
