Hey guys, my name's Justin, host of Inverse, and we're thankful that you guys are listening through the podcast or watching through the video.

In the studio, we have Israel and Callie and Siku, and I'll say hello to them.

Acknowledge their existence in the universe, and we wanna acknowledge your existence in the universe.

Hello to each 1 of you out there as well.

We are studying the Book of Leviticus and we've gone through chapter by chapter and now there's a lot more chapters to go so we're just going to kind of cherry pick the ones that we want to look at because there's just a lot to look at.

So we're going to go to Leviticus chapter 9.

This study, this week's study is not necessarily 1 chapter, but we're looking at worship in general.

We looked at the sacrifices and now that things are set, we got The building has been built in Exodus.

The people have been set up as the priesthood in Leviticus.

The people have been educated on which sacrifices.

And as you already might know, we've got some issues to deal with.

So, we're going to go to Leviticus Chapter 9 and we're going to read a couple of verses from there and then bounce around wherever we want to go in this episode.

So, Callie, can you pray for us to bless the bouncing around in the Bible?

Father in heaven, we're grateful that you have guided us thus far in these different weeks as we have studied Leviticus.

We trust that there is still so much more that you desire to show us.

And so I pray that you'd guide us as we start in chapter 9, and I pray that you would guide us with wisdom and clarity into all the different places that we can go, that you'd bring stories, you'd bring experiences to our minds, and that we would truly enjoy studying your word together today, and that whatever you seek to teach us, it would sink deep into our hearts and minds, and we would see Jesus more clearly and love Him more because of the time we spend.

I love how a lot of the inverse studies have sunk deep into our hearts.

I mean, we can go around, we won't do it now, but we can go around and we just think of, even though we've studied it, and we come to this table, this table of the last couple of seasons, but another table of the other seasons, and we come up with, we just, the Holy Spirit leads us and it's just a cool, in vivo, organic experience.

And let's go to Leviticus chapter 9 and let's read the Bible.

Then Aaron lifted his hand toward the people, blessed them, and came down from offering the sin offering and burnt offering and peace offerings.

And Moses and Aaron went into the tabernacle of meeting and came out and blessed the people.

Then the glory of the Lord appeared to all the people and fire came out from before the Lord and consumed the burnt offering and the fat on the altar.

When all the people saw it, they shouted and fell on their faces.

Siku, can you kind of, we looked at the 5 sacrifices, but then in the last episode, can you just give us a brief update and we can just jump from there into this study.

In the last episode, we kind of pivoted from talking about the sacrifices to talking about the people involved.

And in particular, we're talking about the priesthood.

Aaron and his sons were being consecrated for their ministry that they were to perform, which was a ministry that was representing the people before God in the sacrificial ritual.

So that becomes, the priesthood becomes central in the worship experience of Israel when they're bringing their sacrifices to God.

And in chapter 9, we see, and we didn't read the first part and we don't we don't have time to, but there's Aaron and his sons bringing up all these sacrifices, and this is where priestly ministry is now getting started and everything is matching up to what God wanted to do.

And The cool thing, I think, after studying the 5 offerings is when you go back to Genesis or back to some of these stories, and they said, and this person offered up a burnt offering, you kinda know a little bit more nuanced on why they offered the burnt offering.

Or they know this person felt like he's running away from his brother but wanted to make, you know, restitution.

So he offered up a sin offering or a trespass offering.

Whereas before it was just, oh, he just offered up another offering.

And then just, well, then sometimes they have combinations of 3 or 4 or 2, and why there's these mixing.

They're all ultimately pointing to Jesus, but there's more nuance.

So we see that in verse 22, and Aaron lifted up his hand toward the people, blessed them, and came down from offering the sin, burnt, and peace offerings, those 3 out of those 5 specifically.

And then what do we see happening from God's end?

In verse 24, fire comes down and burns the offering.

And we see that worship is really a central point in Leviticus.

What are some elements of worship that we see in, not Revelation, in Leviticus back then that we need today, that we don't have today?

And we talked a lot about it worship in our last quarter on the 3 angels messages, but we can bring some of those elements out today, especially when it comes to Leviticus.

1 that comes to mind, I don't know if we don't have it at all, but we need more of it.

And that is a sense of awe in God's presence.

You see that reaction here in verse 24, when all the people saw it, they shouted and fell on their faces.

And there's, ah, and I kind of awe and also respect.

I can trace back to different parts of my childhood where I clearly did not have respect in the house of the Lord.

And my mom reminded me that that's what was happening.

And I just, cause like, yeah, it's like, this is just a big room where my friends are.

But you can see here, that's really being emphasized.

And I don't think we need to bring back the killing of animals in order to get that respect in God's presence.

But that is something that very much I sense it in my own life and I think in the lives of a lot of us that we don't have that awe and that deep respect and that good fear in God's presence.

I remember we talked about in a couple episodes and we want to encourage you to go to hopetv.org slash inverse, and you can look at the back episodes, especially the ones on the 3 angels messages.

I'm making it up right now, but in the middle, like 5 through eight-ish, we talked a lot about worship, a lot about awe, and a lot about this, and the difference between respect and awe, and you mentioned deep respect, and I think that's, it's hard to find what that is.

You know, when we meet George Washington, actually, you don't wanna meet George Washington, That's another corner who talks about us.

But when you meet the President of the United States or President of whatever respective country, then you're like, oh, there's just a deep respect.

At least neurologically, and I think last quarter, you weren't here, were you here last quarter?

I was here last quarter, but I don't think I was on that episode.

Just neurologically, I'm gonna show this, but when people experience something bigger than themselves, experience the stars, or nature, or music, or groups of people moving together, they experience this awe.

But neurologically the same reaction is felt when you experience ginormous travesty and dread, you know.

For example, like an earthquake and 50 million people died.

It's not the like, oh, you're afraid of earthquakes, but it's just the gravitas of the tragedy.

9-11, 2000 people died and you're standing at the towers.

You're not afraid of terrorists and planes coming down.

You're, you're just, I don't know what the right word is, but in, it's the same feeling, awe of the power of the magnitude of evil.

But whether it's evil or good, neurologically, it's the same.

And so when you're encountering God, obviously we trust in his goodness, his warmth and his gentleness.

But at the same time, He is quite the powerful God.

And I love, and we used this before, but C.S.

Lewis, he says that God likened to a lion, that He's not a tame lion.

At any moment, he has the instincts of a lion, but he's a good lion that you can trust.

And it's just the simple way of bringing those 2 things.
