Jesus’s Second Coming & Heaven

This morning, well, I'll start last week, I preached this sermon at Brevard.

And I came over here in the afternoon to talk about evangelism.

And I'm really excited to share this sermon with you today.

I get up early on Sabbath and usually kind of go through my sermon and change any notes I need to change or do what I need to do.

And it seems like the devil is trying to make everything not work.

My iPad wouldn't connect to my laptop, so I reset it.

And then I charged my iPad in the Sabbath morning, so it's fully charged.

And all of a sudden, when I reset it, it wouldn't charge anymore.

It would connect but it wouldn't charge So I turned it off again and turned it back on and now wouldn't connect but it was charging So finally I stopped and prayed and when I turned it back on, it connected and started charging, and here we are.

So it felt like everything this morning was going in that direction.

The other thing I would add about today's sermon is, as we go through, I hope you all have the study guides I put together for you.

If you don't, if you don't have them, raise your hand.

And David, maybe, or there's a couple people jumping up to grab some more, Thank you.

I would I would add as we go through this try to picture or put yourself in these situations and try to picture heaven as we go get to journey to it And I think it's going to be a blessing.

It's a blessing for me to put it together.

And I would add, number 17, it's the best part.

I'll mention this later in the sermon as well, is that this sermon I almost had to divide into 2.

Heaven is just too exciting just to put in just 1 sermon.

So, This is what every Christian is longing for.

And I can't wait for Jesus to come again.

I thought what was important, and I've shared this here quite a bit, is to say something about our mission statement as a Seventh-day Adventist church and our church specific.

And it's to make disciples of Jesus Christ who live as His loving witness and proclaim to all people the everlasting Gospel of the 3 angels' messages in preparation for His soon return.

And we're sharing Him with others in preparation for what?

It is about the culmination, the climax moment of the plan of salvation.

It's even in our church's mission statement.

The other thing is, is why do we call ourselves Seventh Day Adventists?

A lot of times we typically talk about that first part.

It's an important part, and I'm not trying to take anything away from that.

But, Adventists, we are looking for Jesus' soon return.

So today's sermon is about the name Seventh-day Adventist.

The Second Coming is something to hope for and we need all and I hope most of you already know this but we must all know that this is a literal event.

It is the culmination of the plan of salvation.

Did you guys know that 1 in every 4 texts in the New Testament discusses the Second Coming?

1 Bible scholar has counted at least 1, 500 references to the Second Coming.

Friends, the Bible is full of promises pointing to His soon return.

So I'll tell you, it's not easy to put together a sermon focusing when there's so much of the Bible that is pointing in this direction.

I believe if we look around and see a world in turmoil, and I want to review that.

We see disasters happening at an alarming rate.

We're starting to see shortages here even when we're sheltered in the United States.

I have friends who are still waiting on their front doors from 2 and a half years ago.

There's a website that I looked up and it says, the world faces global hunger crisis of unprecedented proportions.

It's a website called the World Food Program.

And it says that in 2 years, the number of people facing or at risk of acute food insecurity has increased from 135 million in 53 countries pre-pandemic to now over 345 million in 82 countries today.

It's fueled by conflict, climate shocks, and COVID.

The crisis is escalating as the Ukraine war drives up food costs for fuel, food, and fertilizers.

Millions, it goes on to say, millions are struggling to put food on the table and are being driven closer to starvation in a storm of staggering proportions.

Without an intervention, they say we will see hunger on a catastrophic scale you know I found 2 other articles I looked up short food shortages in the u.s.

2 other articles the top left 1 in that 1 with the oranges and We've seen eggs.

There's if you haven't seen a meme on eggs.

There are plenty of memes on eggs right now Corn is going to be a problem Bread is going to be a problem because Russia and Ukraine account for 20% of the world's cereal grain production.

This 1 doesn't matter to us here, but champagne.

Canned pet food, there's actually an aluminum shortage.

The other article adds meat, which doesn't matter as much to us here either.

Lettuce, beer, which isn't as big a deal for us here, but the aluminum shortage is going to create that problem.

Oranges, cooking oil, butter, eggs, tomatoes.

It's kind of scary in some ways, isn't it?

And because of that rioting, We've seen, sadly, we've also seen, sorry, separate from this, school shootings, the 1 this last week, and I want to pause there.

We need to be praying for the 6 families, but also the seventh family.

And it's a sick thing that has separated a lot of families from their loved ones.

We've seen from the rioting destruction in our cities like never before.

We've seen political unrest with the Trump things going on and everything else going on.

It seems like there's no middle ground, no way where to talk anymore.

Fluctuating stock market, you know March of 2020 we had the single largest drop in US history and then I look pulled up this chart and added some lines to it I can remember several of those dips but look at 2020 you see that that first line at the very bottom?

It kind of goes across where it tips out.

Then you get to 2008, and that next mountain, so to speak, and I remember back in 2008, It's that second line that goes all the way across, where that line hits the top of the green.

I remember in 2008 them talking that that was because the market had just grown way too big.

And look at the mountain ahead of us now all the way up to 2022 so we have seen inflation we've seen everything just driving up we are up to that last line is about 35 36, 000 and for reference 2008 was at 15, 000.

So we're over double what we were in 2018, or 2008.
