How to Relate to People in the Adventist Church Who Don’t See Truth the Way that You See Truth

This is presentation number 5 of 6 and the topic is actually a little deceiving.

It says relationships, but I'm actually dealing with relational issues.

So I am talking about dating, I am talking about marriage, but it's in the broader context of other relational issues.

We won't be talking a ton about dating and marriage in this particular lecture.

We've talked about that some in the last 1 and some yesterday.

What we're gonna talk about right now is how to relate to people that don't see truth the way that we see truth in the Adventist church.

I'm not necessarily talking about non-Adventists or the unchurched.

As we're going into the last days, there is sort of a refining of the soul, if you will.

In fact, how many of you are familiar with the narrow way vision of Ellen White?

In that narrow way vision of Ellen white, you see that they begin to walk this narrow path.

And they're carrying a lot of stuff with them.

And then they have some pack animals with them as well, right?

And as they begin to get closer up the path, what happens to the path?

To the point where they are struggling keeping the pack animals going.

They begin to cut the luggage off, and the luggage falls off the precipice.

Then they have to get rid of the animals.

They can't carry that themselves and they begin to walk this path on their own Now that they're sort of by by themselves, you know walking 1 by 1 This precipice is heading down, you know all this stuff.

Then there's something that's that's Wild She says that they eventually have to take off their shoes and their socks.

Why do you think that they take off their shoes and their socks?

Maybe they want to get their toes in the dirt.

What are the times in the Bible that you had to take your shoes off?

And when they have to head to holy ground what are they doing?

They've got to let everything go, including their socks, including their shoes.

We eventually see that the path gets so narrow that they're holding on to cords and they have to swing over all the way to the other side.

Listen friends, we're getting closer and closer to the second coming of Jesus Christ.

And as we get closer and closer to Christ's coming, We're not going to be able to keep our hands on the things that we have grown so fond of.

We've got to start cutting some of this stuff loose.

Let your character be changed into the image of Christ as we're going to get into the promised land very, very soon.

Now we're preaching that type of message and GYC is preaching that type of message, but there are some in our church that are not quite ready to hear that kind of message.

And some of those end up being our leaders.

We end up running into our leaders who don't quite feel so strong about cutting everything loose or presenting youth ministry in the way that some feel that youth ministry need to be presented, or any of the very varied areas of ministry at all.

All these things, this is what we're going to try to touch on today.

And I'm not sure if we're going to do it justice, but I'm going to definitely try.

So let's bow our heads together as we begin.

Dear Heavenly Father, Lord, I thank you again for your awesome goodness.

I pray, Father, that as we go through this subject that you will rain your spirit out on us.

I'm reminded that we are the Adventist church, that this is your end time church with your end time message and that your prayer, Jesus's prayer that is, was that we might be 1 as you are 1.

We don't want to be standing in opposition to each other.

It's counterproductive to the everlasting gospel to be bickering among ourselves and fighting ourselves.

And so help us to understand this issue, Lord.

Help us to know how to relate to those who have not been impressed of the urgency of the time that we're living in.

And I thank you, Father, for your goodness.

Matthew chapter 26, beginning at verse 31.

It says, Then Jesus said to them, All of you will be made to stumble because of me this night, for it is written, I will strike the shepherd and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.

But after I have been raised, I will go before you to Galilee.

And Peter answered and said to him, Even if all are made to stumble because of you, I will never be made to stumble.

And Jesus said to him, Assuredly I say to you that this night before the rooster crows you shall deny me how many times?

Mark chapter 14 verse 66 records Peter's denial.

It says, Now as Peter was below in the courtyard, 1 of the servant girls of the high priest came and when she saw Peter warming himself she looked at him and said, you also were with Jesus of Nazareth.

But he denied it saying, I neither know nor understand what you are saying.

And he went out on the porch and a rooster crowed.

And the servant girl saw him again and began to say to those who stood by, this is 1 of them.

And a little later, those who stood by said to Peter again, Surely you are 1 of them, for you are a Galilean, and your speech shows it.' Then he began to curse and swear, I do not know this man of whom you speak.

Verse 72, A second time the rooster crowed, then Peter called to mind the word that Jesus had said to him, Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me 3 times.

And when he thought about it, he wept." Now, it's a beautiful story.

Because we're told that Jesus died alone, absolutely alone.

In fact, we saw yesterday, for those of you who were here, that at the cross and all the mocking and the jeering and making fun of him, there stood your Jesus, crucified, to the point where nature could not look on the scene anymore, And darkness covered all the land.

A darkness that was so thick that you could barely see yourself.

And then we have the beautiful account of the Father.
