History Repeats Itself

All right, so without any further delay, we want to go ahead and get started into our study.

So as much as you're able to, well, we're kind of stacked up here, so I'm going to kneel.

You just go ahead and reverently bow your heads and let's get ourselves started in our study.

Our Father in heaven, we are grateful for the privilege and the opportunity to come together, to press together, to study, to show ourselves approved unto God that we can be workmen that need not be ashamed, for we have rightly divided your words of truth.

We pray, Lord, that you will please bless us at this time and that you will first forgive us of our sins and that you will also cleanse us from all unrighteousness, that you'll send your Holy Spirit, that he may come and teach us and Help us to truly understand that right now history is being repeated.

We simply want to choose which side of history we shall repeat.

So grant us wisdom and may you open our eyes and help us to behold wondrous things out of your word.

For we ask all these blessings in Jesus' name, amen.

All right, now, our overall class is gonna deal with the topic of music and its role in last day events.

Now, I'm gonna let you know in advance, there is no way that we're gonna be able to cover it all within these 3 seminars that we have.

So while there's gonna be deeper things that we're gonna have to cover, you're gonna find that it's gonna require us to number 1, study to show ourselves approved, but also I have some resources.

So I want you all to make sure that this evening, you visit me at the booth that I'm going to be at because I have something very special that I want to give to each person who has come to our class as it relates to dealing with music, where we can go much, much, much deeper into many things that we're gonna discuss at this time.

But I believe we're gonna get a good enough foundation through the things that we're gonna study today to get us on the right track of knowing how we go further as it relates to understanding music and its role in last day events.

Do you believe that this is a trivial topic?

This is something that is very large and therefore it requires very diligent study.

Now something we're going to cover in this class that I want us to repeat, and we're gonna repeat it at the beginning of every class, is I want us to look at this quotation, which is from Life Sketches 196, and I'm gonna ask if we can all repeat this together on the count of 3123.

We have nothing to fear for the future except as we shall forget the way the Lord has led us and his teaching in our past history.

We have absolutely nothing to fear, nothing, as long as we do not forget the way God has led us.

And therefore, we're gonna look a little bit at history because this study that we're gonna go over right now is talking about history being repeated.

And you're gonna find that this becomes very relevant to you and I because there's many things we're gonna need to look at to really find out, number 1, is history being repeated?

And then number 2, If it is, which side of history am I repeating?

So you're gonna find that this is gonna require a lot of heart searching.

So I want you to pay very close attention to the things we're about to study.

I want you to grab your swords and turn your Bible to the book of Ecclesiastes chapter 1.

And you're gonna find in Ecclesiastes chapter 1, we're going to look at verse 9, and we're going to see what Solomon the wise man has to say to all of us.

And I like this point that he makes here because you're going to find that it pertains even to history.

The Bible says in Ecclesiastes chapter 1, now if you're there please let me know by saying amen.

All right in Ecclesiastes 1 in verse 9, this is what it says and I find this verse to be very interesting.

This verse says, and I'm reading from a King James, it says, the thing that hath been, it is that which shall be.

And that which is done is that which shall be done.

He said, the thing that hath been, that's the past, is that which shall be.

Then he says, and that which is done, that's present, is that which shall be done, that's what?

Future, and then he says there is no new thing under the sun.

And Solomon is kind of 1 of those guys that can honestly say, been there, done that.

Solomon was 1 of those guys who had a lot of experiences that he can truly say, I can truly say under the authority of God that history has a tendency to repeat itself.

Things that have been is that which shall be, that which is done is that which shall be done.

Now, the reason why this becomes important to you and I is because I want you to turn your Bibles to the book of 1 Corinthians chapter 10.

In 1 Corinthians chapter 10 now, We're gonna go ahead and go a little further to see some points of history and then see if God has given us a Clue as to whether some points in history will be repeated The Bible says in 1st Corinthians the 10th chapter if you're there, please let me know by saying amen The Bible says in 1st Corinthians 10 now looking at verses just 1 to 4 very quickly, I want you to see this.

It says, moreover brethren, I would not that you should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud and all passed through the sea.

And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and did all eat the same spiritual meat, and did all drink the same spiritual drink.

For they drank of that spiritual rock that followed them, and that rock was who?

So this is talking about what experience?

What experience in the past is this talking about?

This is when they're going through the Red Sea experience, right?

Now, what's interesting is as Paul is rehearsing what took place as the children of Israel left Egypt, And where were they on their way to?

They were on their way to Canaan land or that promised land, right?

So Paul is rehearsing what the children of Israel went through as they left Egypt on their way to Canaan land.

You know, it's talking about how Christ was leading them and guiding them and so on as they were going through the Red Sea But now notice how Paul transitions some thought processes to this point of history once we get into verse 5 it says in verse 5 But with many of them what happened God was not well pleased for they were overthrown where in the wilderness So while they were on their journey, and as they were heading from Egypt on their way to Canaan land, the Bible says, unfortunately, they began to displease God, and it says they were overthrown in the wilderness.

Now, what were some of the things that took them over?

Let's go ahead in verse 6 now and let's take a look.

It says in verse 6, now these things were our what?

To the intent we should not lust after evil things as they also what?

So what was 1 of the things that overthrew them in the wilderness?

Neither be ye idolaters as were some of them, as it is written, the people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.

So again, what was another issue that overtook them in the wilderness?

Verse 8, it says, neither let us commit what?

Fornication, as some of them committed and fell in 1 day 3 and 20000.

So what's another thing to add to the list?

Tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.

Then, verse 10, neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.

So therefore, we're just taking a little bit of a snapshot of history.

We're seeing that the children of Israel back in the days as they left Egypt on their way to Canaan land, while Christ was leading them, they unfortunately entered into an experience wherein God was now displeased with them.

They did everything from commit fornication, they were complaining and murmuring, they were tempting God, They were doing all sorts of things.

They committed idolatry, and the list goes on.

Now, thus far, we just looked at history, but I want you to notice now verse 11.

It says, all these things happen unto them.

It says, now all these things happen unto them for what?

For ensamples, and they are written for whose admonition?

Father in heaven, we're grateful once again because we realize better that we have a very serious choice to make.

We just simply want to make sure that we repeat the right side of history.

And so Father, may you counsel us, may you guide us, may you instruct us Lord as we go through these next couple of moments, as we study together.

I pray that thy blessings will be upon us as we study.

For we ask all these things in Jesus' name, amen.

You're gonna find that the things that we're getting ready to study, they're, you know, 1 of the great struggles that I had because of the timelines given for the seminars was to really go into the depth of music as I wanted to.

I wanted to deal with, you know, harmony, melody, and rhythm, and really get into all the intricacies of all these different things.

But I knew that time would not necessarily allow considering the other principles that I have to share.

So therefore, what I did was I, you know, the Lord led me to put together some very important principles that we're gonna look at that can guide us when it comes to the choice of music.

But in addition to that, I'm very serious when I say this, I need you to come see me at my booth.

There is a gift that I brought for you all.

But nevertheless, this gift is going to help you go into some of those deeper aspects that I myself would not have been able to do in these particular seminars.

I'm going to share some simple principles on it, but you'll see.

The booth is going to be in the main gymnasium where the meetings were being held, the SEYC meetings are being held.

It will be immediately after sunset once those booths open, you know, then you can come on back and it is gonna be first come first serve basis.

So you know, and I just, I brought as many as I could so that way by God's grace it'll be a blessing to you.

Now we're gonna look at some very important things with this because music is something that has definitely affected us as a movement.

Music is very, very powerful and music was designed to serve a holy purpose when God made it.

But what happened is like anything else that God has made, of course Satan gets his hand into it and things get perverted.

So there's a very important principle that I wanted us to look at.

Go to 1 Peter chapter 2 again, and this was something because I was really pleading with God and saying, Lord, What's a way to get some very important points across to your people?

And this is 1 area that God has brought to my attention.

In 1 Peter chapter 2, you're gonna find that we're gonna repeat and expand, repeat and expand, but I want you to look at this.

In 1 Peter chapter 2, you remember that we read a very important text of Scripture.

It said in 1 Peter 2, 9, it said, but ye are a chosen generation, and then what else were we referred to as?

Now, this is the only time that God is actually talking about his people in the general sense functioning as priests.

The priesthood came to an end at that wonderful cross experience.

And when Christ ascended into the holy place of the heavenly sanctuary, that's when he was inaugurated as high priest in the sanctuary.

And the signal of that was when the Holy Spirit poured down through the early rain.

And at GYC, we're gonna really talk about this, the Holy Spirit in the sanctuary.

And you'll find that Jesus is that high priest.

That's why in Hebrews 4, when it talks about we have not been touched with the feeling, there's not 1 who has been touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but was in all points tempted like as we are yet without sin.

And it talks about Jesus being that high priest for us.

There's 1 mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus.

Therefore, when God calls us a royal priesthood, it is not that we are actually instituting a priesthood.

God is simply saying that the same way that a priest was supposed to do something very important.

The purpose of a priest was to give gifts and sacrifices.

He was supposed to give gifts and sacrifices.

So it is that the reason why God can refer to us as a priesthood is because when we reach people in the world that know not God, we are presenting the gift of salvation, Christ, to the individuals.

We are making them aware of the great sacrifice on the cross that was done on their behalf.

It is only in that context are we a quote-unquote priesthood.

So therefore we're not talking about a literal establishment of a priesthood, but I believe this, because God did look at us as a royal priesthood, I think there are some very powerful lessons we can learn from the priesthood.

And I want you to see something the Bible says, and we're going to go to the book of Exodus chapter 4.

And I find this to be very powerful because I think there's some things we're gonna see that we can learn some lessons from considering we are a royal priesthood.

We are the ones whom God has chosen to bring the message of salvation, to present the gift of salvation, to tell them about the sacrifice of Christ to the world that they may accept him.

Now notice what the Bible says in Exodus chapter 4.

In Exodus 4, notice what it says in verse 14.

The Bible says in Exodus 4, 14, talking about Aaron, it says, And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses.

And he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother?

And also behold, he cometh forth to meet thee.

And when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart.

Now in Exodus 28, we want to learn something about these Levites.

The Bible says in Exodus 28, we're going to Look at verses 1 and 3.

In Exodus 28 verses 1 and 3, the Bible says, And take thou unto thee Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, that he may do what?

It says, even Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar, Aaron's sons.

Verse 3, and thou shalt speak unto all that are wisehearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron's garments to consecrate him, that he may minister unto me in the priest's office." So here it is that Aaron was referred to as a Levite.

Then we see that Aaron the Levite also would function in the office of a priest.

And when he functioned in the office of a priest, he was ministering unto God, and he also ministered unto the people.

Now, go to the book of Numbers chapter 16.

Let's see something else that the Bible brings out to our attention.

Numbers the 16th chapter, and we're going to look at verse 5, and then we're going to look at Numbers 17 verses 5 to 10.

Number 16, 5, and then you wanna put your finger on number 17, verses 5 to 10.

Notice what the Bible says in number 16, verse 5.

It says in verse 5, And he spake unto Korah, and unto all his company, saying, even tomorrow the Lord will show who are his, and who is what?

Now, there was a contention, Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.

And the contention was based on who is the 1 that was actually called of God to function in a certain capacity.

Therefore, God saw it necessary now in verse 5 to go ahead and respond to this argument that was being presented.

And he says, and he spake unto Corah and unto all this company saying, even tomorrow the Lord will show who are his and who is holy and will cause him to come near unto him, even him whom he hath chosen will he cause to come near unto him, whom he hath chosen will he cause to come near unto him.

Now, go to chapter 17 and let's look at verses 5 to 10.

Who is this 1 that ultimately God was to present and to make known to the people that he is holy.

Music, the Sanctuary, and the Judgment

So what I'm going to do is I'm just giving you a tidbit here because it's all I can give you.

But at the same time, again, I think thus far we understand in Seminar Number 1, history repeats itself.

And therefore, what we want to do is we want to be mindful that we repeat the positive side of history rather than the negative.

We learned in Seminar 2 that there are some specific instructions and guidelines that God gives as it relates to understanding the utilization of music.

We know that the priests were the ones whom God used in a very mighty way to lead out in song.

And so it is that as a priesthood in the context of how we studied it, we should be the leaders when it comes to song and to music and understanding sacred song.

And therefore, we looked at several different principles, and we talked about everything from how a song is just like prayer.

Therefore, the same principles that govern prayer are the same principles that should govern singing.

And then we looked at several different points about the lifestyle of the individual.

The same way that those priests were holy people is the same way we should be holy people.

We should not look at Christianity as some part-time thing that we just go ahead and do and have some fun in it.

The life should be surrendered to Christ.

So that way we're not singing about a song that We know nothing of its experience.

And then in addition to that, we also saw that it's very, very important that we make sure that we understand the direction of the song.

When we're putting together lyrics, when we're putting together these things, they should lead us to reflect that image of God.

They should lead us to enter into a place where it is motivating me to want to be more like Jesus in all of the different ways that he worked his works and manifested his spirit.

So now we're looking at this topic, music in the most holy place.

So we're going to look at some principles as it relates to the most holy place, and then we're going to go ahead and go through the final steps of this presentation.

So let's pause once again for a word of prayer as we prepare to begin.

Father in heaven, we thank you so much, Lord, that you're helping us to really understand your words better.

And Lord, I know that there's so much more that we could learn, and that's why I'm praying more than anything else that our hearts and our minds would be motivated to study further, to look deeper, and to dig deeper, to go into your truth and to understand how music can even affect us, even in these very last days of earth's history and how we need to be ever so careful.

Please, Lord, guide our minds, we pray, for we ask all these things in Jesus' name.

All right, Let's go to the book of Daniel chapter 8, verse 14.

This is the coined Bible verse of the Seventh-day Adventist movement.

And remember, we showed you, oh, by the way, earlier today when I was doing Sabbath school, I said a quotation that I said was from manuscript release, book 1, page 295.

It is not manuscript release, book 1, page 295.

It is manuscript release book 1, page 228.

And in manuscript release book 1, page 228, it says very clearly that the whole purpose that God raised up seven-day Adventist schools, sanitariums, food factories, hygienic restaurants, and the list goes on, was to prepare a people to stand true to God in the judgment.

That is manuscript release, book 1, page 228.

So that is the reason why God even established our schools, our sanitariums, of course, you know, our hygienic restaurants, even our food factories, everything was to help a people stand true to God in the judgment.

Now, understanding that, let's go to Daniel 8, 14.

Now, we know Daniel 8, 14 very well, at least we should.

And in Daniel 8 and verse 14, the Bible clearly says, and he said unto me, what?

Unto 2, 300 days, then shall the sanctuary be cleansed." Now, the sanctuary needs to be cleansed, is that right?

So the sanctuary started that, that cleansing work of the sanctuary started in 1844.

Christ, he moved from the holy place to the most holy place.

He's doing the first work in the plan of salvation or the final work?

He's doing the final work in the plan of salvation.

That final work is to blot out sin or to cleanse the sanctuary.

Now, let's go to Leviticus the 16th chapter.

Question, why hasn't the sanctuary been cleansed yet?

Talk to me, Why hasn't the sanctuary been cleansed yet?

All right, well, let's go to Leviticus 16.

Now in Leviticus 16, let's look at verse 16, and we'll take it from verse 16 to verse 19.

The Bible says, and he shall make an atonement for the holy place because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel.

This was a work that was done on the day of atonement.

It says, and because of their transgressions and all their sins, and so shall he do for the tabernacle of the congregation that remaineth among them in the midst of their uncleanness.

And there shall be no man in the tabernacle of the congregation when he goeth in to make an atonement in the holy place until he come out and have made an atonement for himself and for his household and for all the congregation of Israel and he shall go out unto the altar that is before the Lord and make an atonement for it and shall take of the blood of the bullock and of the blood of the goat and put it upon the horns of the altar round about and he shall sprinkle of the blood upon it with his finger 7 times and cleanse what?

It and hollow it from the uncleanness of the children of Israel.

In verse 30, same chapter, verse 30, it says this, for on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you to cleanse what?

You, that ye may be cleaned from how many?

In the cleansing of the sanctuary, is it 1 thing that's being cleansed or 2?

We see that the structure does have to go through a cleansing, but what has to be cleansed first?

The people, because we're the ones that keep causing it to be dirty, is that right?

So therefore, when the Bible says, unto 2, 300 days then shall the sanctuary be cleansed, The only way the sanctuary can be cleansed is when God can establish such a relationship with the people that they can love them so much that they would prefer to die than sin anything into the sanctuary that would make it dirty.
