Just Do It

It's intimidating to stand up here with all these microphones.

I decided that we would talk about something that is common so that we don't have to spend too much time explaining ourselves but I want to make specific points and before we do that let's pray dear father I ask that you be with us as we open your word as we hear it maybe not only be hearers of the word but doers as well in Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Turn in your Bibles with me to Mark chapter 4, Mark chapter 4, and I'm just going to quickly read through this passage.

This is 1 of Jesus' stories that He told when He was starting out in His ministry and it is something that applies at once to Jesus.

This is talking about Jesus and His work but it also applies to us because we are trying to be like Jesus and we are doing the same work that He is doing and so I'm going to give you some tips on how to be successful like Jesus.

So verse 3 says, Harken, behold there went out a sower to sow and it came to pass as he sowed some fell by the wayside and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.

And some fell on stony ground, where they had not much earth, and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth.

But when the sun was up, it was scorched, and because it had no root, it withered away.

And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.

And some fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased, and brought forth some 30, some 60, and some hundred.

And he said unto them, He that hath ears, let him hear." The very first lesson to learn to be successful like Jesus is to look at this passage and the very first thing it says, I guess it says in other parts where this is also mentioned, it says that the sower went out to sow.

There are many people who get all the training in the world but they never go out.

They never ask their friends if they want to know more about Jesus.

They never challenge themselves to do just something.

If you can imagine the US Army, if the US Army did the same thing, we would not be a dominant force in the world that we are today.

The reason we are a dominant force in the world today is because people that sign up to go into the army and that go into the Navy and go into the Air Force and other branches of the military, after they're trained, what do they do?

And the US military will Guarantee that in 90 days they can shred you they can take you apart and they can put you back together to accomplish What they want you to do If we are in the Lord's army at some point, we've got to move beyond training At some point we've got to move beyond that and we've got to go out.

And if you look at Jesus' life, salvation is not a thought, salvation is not an inspiration, salvation is an action.

And 1 of the things that Jesus did is that He went out.

He went out of the city, he went out of heaven, he left the throne room, he left the Father and the Holy Spirit and he went out there to save those who were lost.

He took a risk and we need to do the same thing.

Many times we go to conferences, youth conferences, GYC and NAD conferences and leadership conferences, prayer conferences, and we go there to these conferences and these conferences are kind of like what happens on the football field where you huddle, where the team huddles.

But the problem is that so many of us, we just stay in the huddle, we never take the field.

But what we need to do is we need to huddle, we need to come together, we need to get inspiration from our coaches and inspiration from God and then we need to actually take the field.

The harvest, God says, number 1, the first thing that God says, the rule about the harvest is that what you sow, what happens?

And so in order to sow, you have to reap.

And in order to get that harvest, you have to go to the field.

So if you're sitting here and you've been to 6 Bible schools and you've been to all these Bible boot camps throughout the years, if you haven't gone out, go out.

The next thing that it says is that he went everywhere.

When I used to sell books as a young man in Pakistan, we didn't sell books at homes, we'd sell books in office buildings.

There were times when I'd walk by an office building, and I'd look up at it, and I'd just be intimidated.

I'd say, there's no 1 in that building that probably wants to buy from me so I'm just going to pass on.

And I'd go to the next building and then I'd look up and I'd say you know I don't think anyone's going to buy here either and I'd pass on and then I'd see a restaurant I'd be like you know what I'm just going to go inside and just sit down and relax and so I'd go there I'd go there and sit for and relax for about 2 hours then I'd go out and go talk to 1 person, that person would say no, then I'd go back to the restaurant and sit for another 2 hours, and then it'd be time to go home.

And that's how my whole summer went, the first summer.

But what happened is that there was another guy that was in town, and he would look at those same buildings and he'd go in and he'd sell from top to bottom.

Every single building, every single building he would sell from top to bottom because he had the principle of the sower, he knew that he had to go.

You'll always have greater success if you do these 5 things, if you're going to be like Jesus, if you're going to go out and if you're going to sow, if you're going to take the time, you'll have greater success doing this if you understand these 5 things.

If you notice over here, Jesus talks about different types of soil.

There's a soil that has thorns in which the seed falls and the thorns grow up.

And then there's another place where it falls on the wayside and the birds eat it up.

There's different types of soil and you have to be prepared for each type of soil.

If you're going to have a harvest, you have to prepare the soil.

I'm going to give you an example of how to prepare the soil.

You know, 1 of the things that the Bible says that be always what?

A few weeks ago I was sitting in the barber's chair and this lady said, you know, she was cutting my hair and she said, Adrian, every time you come, there's less hair on your head for me to cut.

And 1 of these days, there's going to be no hair, and I'm going to go out of business.

And I was sitting there and I thought, you know, I said, Maria, how long are you going to be cutting hair?

I've been doing this all my life, and I want to do something different.

Why don't we talk about what it would take to get you to work in the hospital.

So you can stop cutting people's hair and you can be less dependent on my hair and other people's hair, you know, that's falling out.

Conversations can happen anywhere if you're just ready, if you're just prepared, if you've got that mindset.

Nowadays, when I go to places, I always think about what I'm going to say.

And when I initiate a conversation with somebody, I try to guide it somehow towards Jesus.

Another example, I started a business with a friend of mine, and his name is Mike Menea.

He's a Bible worker, or a former Bible worker.

And we, in the beginning, we had to work really hard.

But we worked really hard, And we used to go to Denny's.

He'd come down from San Diego, and we'd go to this Denny's right out here.

And we'd sit there till like 2 o'clock in the morning, just doing work.

And there was this girl that would serve us, and her name was Cynthia.

And every day, our conversation would start out with, what would you like to eat?

And she'd be like, well, we'd like this Boca burger with fries on the side and whatever else.

And 1 day I just said, you know, Cynthia, How are things going for you?

And she said, you know, I'm losing my hearing.

And I said, do you have health insurance?

And I said, well, let me show you how to get some cheap health insurance so we can find out what's going on with your hearing.

And it turned out that she's living in with her boyfriend.

And a point about that, you know, you will never find a perfect prospect.

You will never find someone who has it all together.

There's going to be something that needs to be fixed.

She's living with her boyfriend, and her boyfriend is a DJ.

And so she goes with him on his concerts, and she sits right next to him.
