What is the Work?

Today we're going to build on what we talked about yesterday.

But, of course, before we want to do any study of God's Word, we want to begin with a word of prayer.

Dear Heavenly Father, Lord, in the stillness of this morning, in the quiet of this time, I ask that you speak to us through your word.

Give us wisdom, give us information that we may be transformed into your image and do the work with which you have given us.

Help us to be faithful until we see you face to face is our prayer in Jesus' name.

Just to recap what we talked about yesterday, God's plan of salvation, the plan of redemption, the great plan that God has is more than simply a transaction of salvation, but it's a transformation of character.

Okay, he wants people not only to get into heaven, but to fit into heaven, okay?

So the plan of salvation involves not only getting us there, but getting us to fit in through our character, which we can only attain, of course, through an indwelling Holy Spirit.

And we saw that the glory of God is the character of God.

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed, where?

And we notice in verse 19, we're going to back that up for just a second, thank you.

For the earnest expectation, this is Romans 8, 19, for the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly awaits the revealing of the sons of God.

The creation is eagerly waiting for the revealing, not of the son of God, singular as in the second coming and his, you know, his glory, shiny radiance coming over the eastern horizon, is talking about the revealing of the sons of God, plural.

There's something that's going to happen here that the creation is waiting on.

So we basically came to this idea, that though we might have this framework in our mind where Eden was once established but then lost and someday it will be restored again, we are not passively waiting for the creation to be made new.

The creation is waiting for us to be remade, to be made new into the image of Christ.

I'm going to take a page from David's presentation yesterday and ask you a question that's not rhetorical.

How many of you have ever heard the term, finish the work?

You've probably heard it in different contexts, where the generation is going to finish the work.

We want to see Jesus come in our lifetime.

We need to finish the work in this generation.

What is the work that we're supposed to be doing at this time?

Allowing the spirit of Jesus to transform our hearts.

Okay, Allowing the spirit of Jesus to transform a heart.

OK, allowing the spirit of Jesus to transform a heart.

That's the work, allowing his work to work.

That is the work, allowing his work to work through us, in us.

I first, I thought, would make spreading of gospel, but not only that, but also the truth about God's character.

Okay, so there was a spreading of gospel idea, but now you're thinking something with the character of God might be involved.

Okay, we're using this word character a lot this week, and if you notice, yes sir?

The assimilation of God's character so that he can shine through us.

Okay, the assimilation of God's character so that he can shine through us.

The thing is that we can't spread the gospel unless the Lord is in the gospel.

So you're trying to harmonize those 2 ideas.

Just to kind of add on what the brother was saying, when the grace of God transforms our lives, it's a personal testimony of the gospel to others.

Like, we testify not only with our words, but with our lifestyle, so we present the gospel in us in all that we do.

Okay, I figure that this might be about the thing.

What you would come to, especially in dedicated Seventh-day Adventist communities, where people get together and really want to finish the work, there might be a bit of disunity on what the work actually entails.

What does it mean, what is constituted by the work?

To write here on the banner, I don't know if you've seen the banners, they're beautiful, thank you for whoever put them together, to proclaim the 3 angels' messages to our friends, family, school, nation, and the world.

The spreading of the gospel, which of course entails the 3 angels' messages, the everlasting gospel, the truth of judgment, our Jesus is soon coming, the last warning message to go out, evangelism.

And in fact, the Bible seems to very, very, very clearly support this.

You go to Mark chapter 16, verse 15, we're going to go through some text very quickly here.

In fact, it goes on in Matthew chapter 24, when Jesus is looking at end time events, Matthew chapter 24 verse 14, and this gospel of the kingdom will be preached where?

In all the world as a witness to all nations, and then what happens?

You preach the gospel, then the end comes.

Revelation chapter 14, verse 6, where we get our mission statement for the Seventh-Davenist Church.

"'Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwelt on the earth, to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people.

It seems that there's a ubiquitous Bible agreement here that the work that we're supposed to do is to preach the message of Christ, which includes the 3 angels, the full message of Christ, the entire gospel to all the world, and then the end will come.

So the situation from this perspective is that the world is full of people who are living and dying without ever having a knowledge of Jesus Christ.

So the remedy is to preach lots and lots of evangelistic crusades, right?

We want to support Adventist World Radio, which does a marvelous work.

We absolutely want to support them, okay?

We want to hand out literature like the leaves of autumn.

We want to raise up schools to teach people how to give Bible studies.

What is the Work?
