And we are Now, Pastor Howard, closing out our quarter on the lesson about the Book of Psalms, and this week's study was titled, Wait on the Lord.

It's 1 of those through lines all throughout the Book of Psalms about waiting on the Lord, and what does it mean for us to wait?

So, really straightforward address there and I was richly blessed by this study and I'm, you know, we've mentioned it before but I'm, my hat is off To the contributor and the editors who compiled this particular resource There are so many Bible passages not just from the book of Psalms But of course were rooted in the book of Psalms and we've mentioned before there's 150 Psalms But also there's other passages from Revelation and Matthew and I mean all of the parts of the Bible, Galatians, Romans, just in this lesson alone.

So I think they've done a marvelous job of taking so much scripture content and trying to pack it into not only these days lessons but also have clear lines of study that come out of that.

So we've done our best to draw out some practical talking points from this week's lesson, but there is a lot of meat in due season in this study.

I think I'm counting 14 references, if I've got that correct.

I did it real quickly here for Sabbath afternoon alone.

And that's not the read for this week's study, that's read for this week's study, plus the ones that are in there, so yes.

And you're gonna see that each day, they have like, read these 8 ones and here's some supporting ones below it, so you're looking at probably 10 to 12 passages every single day for study for 7 days.

Well, anyway, but we're going to draw out clear lessons today and I'm excited about that.

So if you would be so kind as to open us up with a word of prayer.

Heavenly Father, again, we thank you for the testimony of scripture.

We thank you for the promise of your Holy Spirit to give us understanding in your spiritual things.

I pray that you would, that understanding would go beyond this Talking Points presentation, Lord, and into all of our Sabbath school classes as teachers are teaching and as members are coming and visitors are coming and learning your word I pray Lord that it would be have that transforming power in our life that you designed that it should We thank you for hearing and answering our prayer in Jesus name.

Yeah, thank you for mentioning that part of your prayer too about visitors even coming.

You know, if a visitor were to step into your Sabbath school, would it be a rich blessing, a Bible study?

They're gonna go back and say, man, I want some more of that.

And you can say, yes it would be because we watch Talking Points.

Not that you have to use our Talking Points but in fact, I just had a testimony some Somebody shared with me recently that they had started employing talking points in their in their Sabbath school And they said it's just revolutionized their Sabbath school Not that they use our talking points per se but there it's it's helped them to get a little bit more out of the lesson and have more of a Direction and Bible centered study and so that's our that's our goal our hope and prayer so praise the Lord Well, let's take a look at our talking points for this week as we study what it means to wait on the Lord I put a little intro note there said this week We take a close look at a close and practical look at what it means to wait on the Lord.

I think sometimes if you say, wait on the Lord, people automatically kind of like, oh, I know what that means, just be patient.

Well, we're going to dig into that a little bit.

But, talking point number 1 this week is, the Bible is clear that we must wait on the Lord.

And I don't mean just the book of Psalms, I mean the entire scripture has this theme running through it.

I could have said Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday too, but that's mainly the anchor points there.

Talking point Number 2 is that waiting involves usefulness, not idleness.

I think that's where we're going to start getting our definition.

The first point is that we have to, and the second point is, what does it entail?

And finally, the reward of waiting is, talking about number 3, the waiting is worth it.

That's especially the last half Wednesday Thursday and Friday of this week's lesson but at the end of all this waiting what is it we're gonna get and it's gonna be the best thing we could ever hope for so we're excited about that.

Let's go back just the mandate itself from Scripture the concept of waiting on the Lord.

Now the lesson doesn't bring this up but a little extracurricular study stuff you can only find here at Talks with Voice that some variant of wait on the Lord, that concept or that phrase, appears more than 20 times in the book of Psalms.

Now, if you just go and type in the word wait, you'll get more than that, but some of them the enemy waits, you know, to pounce on you or something.

But this is, when it talks about waiting on the Lord, this is over and over invoked by the psalmists.

For example, our memory verse this week is from 2714.

It says, wait on the Lord, be of good courage and he shall strengthen your heart.

My soul waits, and in his word, I do hope.

Thus, Sabbath afternoon, paragraph 1 had that nice sentence there that said, right It says if there is a final word that we can draw from the Psalms It should be wait on the Lord.

Exactly and they kind of in that they framed that on Sabbath and you say looking back at all the things we've looked at we have to just simply put our hope and faith trust and wait in the Lord.

Okay now following that up though the same lesson that talks about how the Psalms repeatedly invoke this waiting, well, on Sunday's lesson, paragraph 2, it says, the notion of waiting on the Lord is found not only in the Psalms, but abounds all through the Bible.

So you could be tempted to say that, well, as we look at the Psalms, that phrasing, wait on the Lord, wait on the Lord, it's almost poetic.

And that's why we see it in the Psalms, because they were, it's musical, it's lyrical, it's, you know, it's nice sounding.

But I thought there was a very important point to bring up that the construction, wait on the Lord, or the concept of waiting on the Lord, is not relegated to the poetry of the Psalms, but is actually a theological theme all through the scripture.

That there's a waiting that's understood as a fact in this life.

Well, in our prayer meeting, we had our prayer meeting last night, we've been going over the book of Galatians and talking about the story of Abraham and Sarah and Hagar, a prime example of when they were to have waited on the Lord and they got impatient and said we'll work this out ourselves.

So just for 1 instance, yes, the need to wait on the Lord.

So there's the in 1 lifetime wait on the Lord, but then there's that big arc of all humanity collectively is waiting on the Lord, right?

Now this is probably a familiar passage, but in my mind it's 1 of those quintessential waiting passages.

Why don't you read verses 19 through, let's say, 25.

The Bible says, For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.

For the creation was subjected to futility not willingly but because of him who subjected it in hope, because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.

Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves grown within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.

For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope.

For why does 1 still hope for what he sees?

But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance." Now there's a lot in there, but that word keeps coming up, we gotta wait, we gotta wait.

And the Apostle Paul here doesn't just say we're waiting, like in our own lifetime, for the Lord to work things out in our circumstance, but he's doing the meta view of it.

Like the entire creation since the fall has been subject to this less than ideal circumstance and we're waiting for the deliverance that the Lord's gonna bring, and he ends there with waiting with perseverance.

And that's gonna be a theme we're gonna look at more closely in a second.

Less than ideal, that's a nice way of putting it.

Yes, it's, I mean, we could just wallow in the fact that it's miserable.

When I broke my ankle last spring, that was less than an ideal day or circumstance.
