What we're talking about this morning is how to live during the judgment and a little bit more about the shaking.

James chapter 2, we'll begin reading in verse 12.

So speak ye and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

Is there an appropriate way to speak, an appropriate way to live for those that are going to be judged?

There is, and it's described in the next verse.

For he shall have judgment without mercy that has shown no mercy.

If there's at least 1 point about an appropriate way to live during the judgment, it's that the judgment is a time to show mercy.

During the time of judgment, you want to show mercy because he that doesn't show mercy will receive no mercy in the judgment.

Then during the judgment is a particular time when the devil would be working to cause people to live and act in an unmerciful way.

I want to study with you this morning a little bit about God's mercy.

I think we don't understand it nearly as well as we ought.

Let me review with you some facts and then actually let me do an advertisement first.

There were some very important questions asked last night in the question and answer period.

We were instructed before that to give brief answers, but you all asked involved questions that deserve developed and involved answers.

You can find at least answers to some of those at a canvassing.org website.

Especially that question about military service.

There's a fairly thorough development of that theme from the Bible.

Even the questions about jewelry and about dress, those ideas are there too.

Yesterday the few of you that were in the seminar I was giving in the later afternoon heard me speak about Numbers chapter 16 and Numbers 14 and Numbers 20.

And all I want to bring out about those again here is that God's people were in apostasy in Numbers 14, rebelling against the faithfulness of Joshua and Caleb.

They were in rebellion in Numbers 16, following Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.

They were in rebellion in Numbers 20, wanting to kill Moses because of a lack of water.

We didn't go into Numbers 21, but they were in rebellion there too.

That's where the story of the snakes are.

And immediately after that rebellion in Numbers 14, 16, 20, 21, in chapter 22 you have the interesting story beginning of Balaam and Balak.

Micah 6 is a famous chapter, but it seems that only about 1 verse in the chapter is famous.

That was verse 8, but we're gonna look at verse 4 and verse 5.

Micah chapter 6 and reading verse 4 and verse 5 For I brought thee up out of the land of Egypt and redeemed thee out of the house of servants and I sent before thee Moses and Aaron and Miriam.

Oh my people remember now what Balak king of Moab consulted and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him from Shittim unto Gilgal, that you may know the righteousness of the Lord." If you want to understand the righteousness of the Lord, what story does God recommend you study?

If you want to understand the Lord, your righteousness, God recommends that you remember the story of Balaam and Balak and that you go there if you want to understand how the righteousness of the Lord works.

1 of the most incredible statements in the Bible is in that story.

Well, it's a story that spans several chapters.

I probably didn't write down the verse numbers.

After Balak had asked Balaam to curse the people, Balaam made his best efforts, it looks like, to curse the people, but he couldn't do it.

And Balaam, speaking under inspiration, says in verse 21 about Israel, God hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel.

The Lord his God is with him and the shout of a king is among them.

First of all, was there a king in Israel at this time?

The king of kings was with his people, and did God see in them perversity?

After numbers 14, 16, 20, and 21, millions of unconverted people rebellious at every turn of the way?

And what does God say about them when speaking to their enemies?

To understand the righteousness of the Lord.

It differs sharply from the way we relate to the iniquity in God's people.

It says, for the terrible 1 is brought to naught, or to nothing, and the scorner is consumed and all that watch for iniquity are cut off.

I would not want to be in the class that is watching for iniquity.

Maybe it's fair to say also I wouldn't want to be in the class that treats the abominations or sins in the church as if they don't exist and tries to put them under a rug.

I'd want to be sad about what's going on in our church?

I don't think we understand this side of the coin as well as we do the other.

Verse 21, that make a man an offender for a word.

Have you ever said anything that as soon as you said it, you realized you didn't quite mean what you said?

And other things that you did mean it until about a day later, and then you wished you hadn't said it and you didn't mean it anymore.

Do you think people that are speaking for God do the same thing?

And it is a mistake to make a man an offender for a word.

To lay a snare for him that reproves in the gate.

The person who's rebuking sin doesn't always do it just right.

And if you're watching, you can find, you can trip him up and catch the way he did it that wasn't just the very way that he should have done it.

And maybe it's legitimately true that shame on him, he should have done it better.

But shame on you for trying to catch him doing it wrong.

And turn aside the just for a thing of not.

Men who are justified don't live just exactly right.

And to treat someone as if they are no longer God's people, or as if they're on the wrong side, or to push them aside, because they do something small and wrong, small at least, that's how God describes it in this verse, is a mistake.

It appears that at some point, Jeremiah decided to resign from being a prophet.

You can understand how he was feeling because it seemed like the people were not paying him any attention.

At 1 point, Jeremiah, even when they came to him and solemnly promised they would do whatever he said, as soon as he said it, they said they weren't going to do it.

And in verse 9 of this chapter, he decides he's not going to speak anymore.

It says near the end of the verse that, I was weary with forbearing and I could not stay.

Why, verse 10, for I heard the defaming of many.
