How to Receive the Final Seal of God’s Salvation

This message was presented at the GYC 2011 conference.

Father in heaven, here we are in peace and comfort and security, But there's a storm that's gathering.

We know that you're going to take us through the storm, but we need to be ready to know that it's coming so that we don't lose heart and we know that you're still in control.

Teach us Lord to walk by faith and not by sight.

And when we don't see support beneath our feet, help us to realize that you're holding us up.

We earnestly desire the gift of your spirit so that we can truly be your servants, and as such, we can receive your seal.

We know that we receive your seal as believing Christians, but we want a special measure of that spirit, giving us a special measure of closeness to you and loyalty that we've never had before, total dependence upon you, humility, emptying of self, trusting in Jesus, and following his example right through to the end.

We know that we're going to go through a valley of dark shadows, but there's a banqueting table on the other side Not just for us, but for many others.

We want them to be there too and enjoy that and Above all we want to see your face and enjoy your presence bask in the warmth of your sunlight for all eternity.

Okay, how to receive the final seal of God's salvation.

We talked yesterday about the seal of God, but we're going to get more into the end time context.

There's quite a lot to cover, so I'm going to go quite fast for a bit, and then we'll try to take some time for discussion to let you react to it.

First of all, the question is, how can I be sealed by the Holy Spirit?

I mentioned this yesterday so I won't dwell on it, but all Christians are sealed by the Spirit if they have truly been converted and received the Lord Jesus.

See this, in Him, that is in Christ, you also trusted.

So to trust and believe, that's really the same thing, isn't it?

To have faith in Jesus and if you have faith in Jesus, you trust and believe, then you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.

It's not a matter of coming here to GYC to find the Holy Spirit.

In fact, in Numbers 11, when the 70 elders received some of the Spirit that was on Moses in order to assist him in his work, The command went from Moses to come to the sanctuary.

All 70 elders were supposed to come to the sanctuary.

And there, 68 of them received the spirit.

Now, I had thought maybe they were perhaps rebellious or something like that, but apparently they felt unworthy to receive the Spirit and to participate in the leadership of Israel with Moses.

So they stayed back at their tents back in the encampment.

The Holy Spirit found them where they were.

So if you're thinking, well, I'm limited, I have to go to a certain place, I've got to go to GYC, I've got to go here, or Pioneer Memorial Church, or some place, I've got to go to receive the Spirit there.

No, the Holy Spirit can go anywhere and will find you where you are.

And I love the response of Moses when Joshua came rushing up to him and he said, Oh Moses it's terrible you got to put a stop to this!

Those guys are prophesying out there in the camp.

They were supposed to come to the sanctuary.

They're not supposed to be prophesying out there.

I just wish that everybody in Israel had the Spirit so they could prophesy.

He's not a manager just in the sense of saying, oh wait a minute we have to follow things exactly in this little box and if things are a little bit out of control then that's dangerous and it's not following my authority.

He lets this, if the Spirit is in charge, everything is okay.

So if the Spirit gets us doing some rather unexpected things, okay, then the rest of the folks shouldn't really worry about that if it's really the Spirit, if it's the true Spirit.

Now we know that there are false spirits, we have to test the spirits according to the Word, but sometimes the Spirit moves us out of our comfort zone.

In fact, that is the precise genius of the Spirit, that the Spirit impels us with love that's poured into our hearts, so that we do move out of our comfort zone.

Because it's our comfort zone, folks, that is keeping the work from getting done, right?

It was only when the disciples stepped out of their comfort zone, they leapt out, actually, they were pulled out, dragged out by the Holy Spirit, that they were doing things that were unheard of.

And as a result, the work really went forward so that every creature under heaven, according to Paul, heard the gospel in that generation.

Okay, now there's a special end time sealing we read this yesterday the angel is coming from the east having a seal of the living God seal of the living God Other gods have ownership and there are seals and marks.

In fact, in Revelation chapter 13, there's another kind of mark of another God who's not a living God.

And that is not the seal of the Living God.

See, the Living God means all other gods are not really true living gods, are they?

He's not only the Living God, He's the God who provided life.

In fact, his personal name, the personal name of God is, well, Jehovah is the way it's badly transliterated.

Probably closer to Yahweh, we don't exactly know how to pronounce it, but We know from looking at the form, Yahweh, it looks like a hyphial, that is causative form from the verb to be, meaning the 1 who causes to be.

Not only the living God, but the God who gives life.

And that's why it's so significant in the first angel's message in Revelation 14, 6 and 7.

Worship him who made, who made, see the creator, heaven, earth, the sea, and the fountains of waters.

All right, so the seal of the living God comes.

Don't harm the earth, the sea, or the trees.

So keep back angels, you 4 angels, at the 4 winds of heaven.

Keep back those 4 winds so that we don't have this destruction in this time of trouble until we have a chance to seal these people.

It's important that the sealing happen before that terrible time.

Because once everything busts loose, then it's going to be very difficult to do the gospel work.

In fact, the time of trouble is after Michael stands up, right?

In Daniel 12, Michael stands up is the close of probation.

So we want the servants of God to be sealed and meanwhile the angels are standing at the 4 winds which are the 4 directions north south east and west and they're just well you can see them straining those angels are sweating these days aren't they huh yeah if angels could sweat oh well because you got all these forces on earth just trying to go to wipe everyone out so that Satan can have the victory and he can sweep up this huge harvest and take it with him to hell.

So he wants to wipe everyone out, but God wants to save whom he can.

And this sealing is part of that process.

And we mentioned yesterday that the 144, 000, that means a perfect, symmetrical, holy war army that is commissioned to do God's work.

And here it's not for killing, it's for saving life.

The Spirit and the Sanctuary Sealed for Service, Part 1

Father in heaven, our thoughts rise by faith to the temple in heaven.

When we get there we see that the door is open because Jesus has opened it.

It's far higher and wider, longer and more glorious than we ever imagined.

The main source of light is coming from way down there, the throat of God.

There are the 24 elders, the 4 living creatures, the seraphim, the cherubim, singing holy, holy, holy.

There are millions of angels waiting to do the bidding of the Lord of the universe.

And then the heavenly choir practice is singing.

They're singing anthems that Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart couldn't dream of.

It's amazing, glorious, powerful, beautiful, complex, praising the King of Kings as only the highest intelligences of the universe could do.

We look around at all this splendor, glory, and purity, And then we look down at ourselves.

With the prophet Isaiah, we cry out, I'm a person of unclean lips.

I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips.

We want to go down and meet God, but we're embarrassed because we're a fallen, faulty people.

We hang our heads in shame and then we look up and we see someone we recognize.

He lifts his hands And there are nail scars in those hands.

It's like he can see every molecule of our being.

There's compassion and kindness and mercy, forgiveness.

And his eyes pull me forward and I walk down that long crystal corridor in that vast temple, the control center of the universe.

As I walk down, the angels take a break from their choir practice.

I come down and I leave my meager gift, a little token offering, at the feet of God upon his throne.

After all, he's the CEO of a million worlds, maybe a billion, maybe a trillion.

He's got to be busy, he doesn't have time for me.

And he leans down from his throne and he says to me, stay and chat a while.

I tell him of my joys and my sorrows, my struggles, my family, my church, my school, My hopes and dreams.

And he shares his dreams for me, which blow me away.

They're so much greater than any dreams I had for myself.

He hears my plea for those I love who need to know Jesus better.

He promises me his spirit, strengthens and encourages me.

And then after a good long while, I turn to leave and I walk up that long crystal corridor.

The angels start their choir practice again.

They go to a higher key, modulate, they sing more gloriously than before.

And as I get to the entrance to that grand place, I turn and look around, 1 last lingering gaze before I have to leave.

Everything is so warm and bright and pure.

I don't wanna go down to planet Earth, but I know I must.

Because there are people there that need to hear about what I just have experienced, that I've come in by faith to the holiest holies of the heavenly temple.

And as I descend, things get colder, darker.

It would be depressing if I allowed it to get to me, but I know I've got to come back down.

I also know that I have strength, courage, to go on another day because by faith I have been with God.

All right, we're doing the spirit of the sanctuary sealed for service, and I just realized maybe this is a good reminder let's turn off our cell phones and Pagers and so on and so forth.

Okay, mine is off The spirit and the sanctuary sealed for service a lot of essence in there, but we'll we'll try to figure out what is going on.

So we're getting into the sanctuary-Holy Spirit connection.

What does the Holy Spirit have to do with the sanctuary?

And I think you'll find it's very interesting and relevant and practical and hi good to see you wow I'm seeing friends here that I haven't seen for a while and it's just a real treat okay great so let's start here John chapter 20 Jesus says to his disciples when he appeared to them after his resurrection, he said, peace be to you.

And that was a good thing to say because he was sort of an apparition there and they wouldn't be afraid.

As the Father has sent me, I also send you.

Now we could talk for several weeks upon just that 1 line right there.

What does it mean to be sent as the Father sent Jesus?

Jesus was sent by his father into this broken world in order to build bridges to heaven, stairway to heaven.

And in John 1 51 Jesus said to Nathanael, you will see angels ascending and descending on the Son of Man.

He's a bridge between heaven and earth, see?

And we're here, connected with heaven, tapping into him.

He is the only bridge between heaven and earth.

He is the Pontifex Maximus, if I were to use a Latin expression, the only legitimate Pontifex Maximus.

I'm reminded of Jacob's ladder back in Genesis 28.

In Genesis 28 he was fleeing from his brother Esau, laid down and he dreamt that there was a ladder let down from heaven or a stairway, stairway to heaven.

And there were angels ascending and descending on it and there was God beside that ladder.

And Jesus now is applying that to himself.

He says, I'm that ladder, I'm the bridge between heaven and earth.

Now, interestingly, Jacob said there in Genesis 28, this is none other than the, what?

House of God, that's Bethel, that's where the name Bethel comes from.

This is none other than the gate of heaven.

This is where you can access heaven, right here.

So the next day he set up a stone as a memorial.

Now what's very interesting, Gate of Heaven, House of God, Gate of Heaven.

In the Babylonian language, which I teach at the seminary, by the way, if you want to learn how to call people out of Babylon in their own language.

In the Babylonian language, the name of the city of Babylon, which in the Hebrew Bible, Babel and Babylon is the same word, it's just Babel, okay?

The name of that city in the Babylonian language, called Akkadian, that language, Bab means gate, Eli means of God or of the gods.

The Spirit and the Sanctuary Sealed for Service, Part 2

Theodore Roosevelt quoted an African proverb, speak softly and carry a big stick.

But since I don't have a big stick, I don't want to speak softly.

Now, let's transition into Most Holy Place ministry.

Then he, the high priest, shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire.

And what he does is he goes inside the veil, then he sprinkles blood in there in order to purge the holy place, which in this context is the most holy place.

We know that because it's inside the veil, which is the inner veil.

The Hebrew word is specifically the word for the inner veil there.

Okay, so this is on the Day of Atonement, second phase of Atonement, the priest goes in there.

We find here the end time equivalent or fulfillment of that.

I watched till thrones were put in place, court was seated, books were open.

I was watching in the night visions 1 like the son of man, who's that?

Coming with the clouds of heaven, not to earth but to the ancient of days.

William Miller missed that point and as a result he was disappointed.

And they brought him near before him, then to him was given dominion, glory, and a kingdom.

This is what I was illustrating when I referred to Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth, right?

If he comes in to Westminster Abbey and goes in procession down to meet his mother and becomes king.

See, the purpose of the judgment is to receive the dominion.

Because the judgment determines the nature of the dominion.

Who belongs to him, who his subjects are.

OK, so that's that marriage which is behind closed doors in heaven.

All right, so that means, then, that Christ has moved into his most holy apartment ministry, which is a judgment event, and I have written a lot in my book Alter Call and Who's Afraid of Judgment on the nature of the judgment, that it's for our benefit.

If we're with Christ, then the purpose of that judgment is not to condemn us.

You know, he calls it a terrible thorn in the foot.

It's like it just opens it up so that you're unforgiven and you have to be forgiven all over again.

There is nothing in any of the Day of Atonement texts in the Bible, Leviticus 16, Leviticus 23, Numbers 29, nothing about forgiveness.

It's dealing with that judicial responsibility, the fact that God has forgiven truly guilty people like you and me.

And so it's for him to justify what he's done.

Let me illustrate that just for a moment.

Suppose I'm out here on the highway and I'm in my car and I'm driving 120 miles an hour.

And the judge, however, has mercy on me and forgives me and pays my fine for me.

Now, that's never going to happen, so don't go and try it.

Then suppose that another judge at the next election is trying to take the position of that judge that forgave me.

And the judge is going to look at all their records, they're going to have assistance, and they're going to try to scoop up all the dirt they can on the incumbent.

And they find there, their record, that that judge forgave Roy Gane and paid his fine for him.

What is that other judge, the challenger, going to do?

He's going to put in the newspapers, the incumbent is soft on crime, right?

But now suppose that this went to a higher court And it was vindicated that the judge who forgave Roy Gane did so for a good reason.

That's what the Day of Atonement is all about.

You see, God's forgiveness of his people and his condemnation of those who should be not forgiven, This is all subject to review by the jury which is the onlooking universe who want to know can we really trust God, is he really fair.

And God does something that no government, no business would do, he lays open all the books.

God not only allows himself to be audited, he puts it out himself and opens up the process.

And the reason is because he wants everyone to choose to trust him.

And so the purpose of this judgment is to demonstrate that when he forgave you, he was forgiving the right person.

God is just when he justifies those who believe.

Believe in the present tense, not believed in the past tense.

Don't throw that trillion dollar check away.

Jesus said to the woman taking in adultery, John 8 verse 11, Neither do I condemn you.

Don't just go and hop in bed with somebody else and do it all over again.

In other words, I'm giving you a new start.

You're not, the judgment doesn't deal with your pre-conversion sins unless you throw away the benefit of Christ's forgiveness where he substitutes for you.

That earlier part of your life before conversion is flushed.

You can hear that flushing sound, can't you?

Jesus takes us where we are, praise the Lord for that.

But praise God he doesn't leave us where we were.

It's not the kind of cheap grace whereby we believe that, oh yes I believe and so as a result there's something legal in heaven and then God looks at me through rose-colored glasses and nothing changes here, and I go on sinning a thousand times a day.

Alright, so this is all part of them receiving the dominion and now where's Jesus?

Where is he going to give you the spirit?

The Spirit-Saturated Life, Part 2

I know that this is kind of concentrated and I've been told that when I talk it's a little bit like drinking out of a fire hydrant because there's a lot of material.

So in any case, hopefully you'll get your money's worth.

Just because we get it free doesn't mean it's not really valuable.
