Father in heaven, thank you we can come to you tonight in the name of Jesus And I feel like I have been especially blessed already tonight I've heard of what you have done in the lives of individuals.

I Have heard about how prayer has changed things.

I have heard and seen the evidence that Jesus is alive and is affecting hearts and is working behind the scenes.

And I've heard you speak to me through music.

You have even challenged me in music, and I am grateful for that, elevated and encouraged and challenged all at once.

We ask that as we open the Bible tonight, we would be blessed.

I pray that you would change our hearts, touch our heart.

I pray that your Holy Spirit would be thick in this place." You know, it's a bit of a backwards prayer.

It's not for me to ask you to turn up in your own house.

It would be too bad if we missed your blessing tonight because we weren't here, even though we were here.

So would you touch our hearts please and make us sensible and sensitive to your moving and your blessing tonight.

We are not worthy, we are not deserving, we are not any of that, but we are leaning on you tonight And we are trusting and we are asking and we are expecting.

So feed us with the bread of heaven, I pray.

In Jesus' name, please join me in saying, Amen.

Years ago I worked as a radio broadcaster.

I was the guy you heard on the radio in the morning telling the jokes and playing the records and they were records when I began, by the way, and reading the weather and giving away a thousand dollars to the seventh caller at this number, and that was me.

The main show I did was the breakfast show, and so there's less music because there's a lot of stuff, a lot of ads.

Today, I can't understand how people can listen to the radio and put up with the ads, but it was different then.

And while we were working in the radio industry, we played a lot of music and a lot of various musicians.

And while I was working in the radio industry in the 1980s, And this was around the late 1980s.

There was a band we played on the radio called Milli Vanilli.

I don't expect you to have heard of Milli Vanilli.

I don't think it took a lot of creativity to name the band, but it did put a bit of creativity, it did take a little creativity to produce the band.

Milli Vanilli had a good sound, and I can say that because their sound won them a Grammy award for best new artist in about 1988, 89, somewhere around there.

They sold millions of records, 14 million albums I think, 14 million something.

They sold a lot of, a lot of, it was a long time ago, a lot of records.

They went to number 1 in countries all around the world.

They were big, they were big, but there was, there was a little problem.

And the problem was that Milli Vanilli wasn't actually Milli Vanilli.

A German producer whose name was Frank Farian, Frank Farian, assembled a group of what were essentially session musicians and realized he'd really struck something as they had a great sound.

He knew that this sound could sell records in the millions, but these guys who comprised the real Milli Vanilli didn't look like pop stars.

And Frank was astute enough to realize that no teenage girl was going to put a picture on her bedroom wall of some balding, overweight, middle-aged musicians.

He said, we have no music problem, but we have a significant image problem.

Ah, he said, we will just go find an image.

And so he cast his net and he reeled in 2 fellows.

1 of them was named Rob Pilatus and the other 1 was named Fabrice Morvan.

They were good looking, so they tell me, good looking.

They were athletic, they could dance, they were trendy, guy with his tied back bunch of dreads hanging down his back.

And Rob and Fab were obviously pretty convincing.

Convincing enough to convince people in concert.

They even lip-synched at the Grammy Awards when they won their Grammy award.

In fact, lip syncing is common these days.

There was some minor little scandal in New York.

I don't know if it was the Macy's parade or whatever it was.

And there was some girl who was singing on the float and clearly flubbed her lines, sang the wrong lines, mouth saying 1 thing, music saying another.

Little Jessica Simpson, now Jessica Simpson, who, she's having a baby soon, you understand what I mean, who was caught out, I think it was her, maybe her sister, I don't know, lip syncing and they say, oh you fraud.

Whitney Houston, when she sang the national anthem at the, what was it, the Super Bowl?

1 of the most magnificent and stirring renditions of the national anthem that had ever been recorded.

Nobody realized that she had pre-recorded the thing in Los Angeles 2 or 3 days before the football game was played she was there now she was singing but the Microphone wasn't live and in the background there was AAA recording being played You can't be surprised that I mean if someone is at a football stadium And it sounds like they're in a recording studio Then you know there's been a little bit of something fishy going on you understand it I sat with a fellow on a plane and he was a dancer.

He lives in Los Angeles now, he moved out there from Philadelphia somewhere and he was a dancer and he played, we were sitting on a plane, he whipped out his iPad and he played me a video of him dancing with Madonna, with Madonna.

Pictures of them in Israel and Germany and here and there and they traveled the world and he danced with Madonna.

I said, well, I don't have many interesting questions to ask about Madonna, but I did want to know, does she fake it?

Is she lip syncing or does she sing it all live?

He said, there's no way that she can dance for an hour and a half and sing on key for an entire concert.

It's her being played, but her from a studio, you understand.

Or Milli Vanilli, we're just doing what is done, it's reasonably common.

But what's most common is that when you're miming, you're miming to your own sound.

Well the acting worked, a Grammy Award, fame, fortune, posters on bedroom walls, just like Mr.

Farian was wanting to accomplish, but then the trouble came, then the trouble started.

Rob and Fab, when they were getting ready for the second album, said to Frank Farian, we want to sing on the next record.

No, it was a worse idea than you're even thinking.

When I lived in England years ago, and this was not long after Milli Vanilli went, pfft, 1 of them was on a TV show, if you've ever lived in England you know Terry Wogan and it was the Terry Wogan TV show.

And Wogan was having a bit of fun interviewing this guy and He sang.

You know, I don't want to, I don't want to, well I don't have to judge.

This isn't judging, I'm just telling you the truth.

There's a reason Frank Farian didn't allow these guys to sing on the actual album or in concert.

Dancing, decorating an album cover, that was good.
