Teach a Man to Fish, Part 2

So to begin our second session, please bow your heads with me as we pray.

Father in heaven, we ask that during this time, your spirit would again be here to be our teacher.

And we ask that through the understanding of these simple principles that we would be equipped to better study your Word.

I do also want to welcome those that are joining us by video.

On our last principle of the law first mentioned, we did have a few examples of some things that you can try on your own.

Look for the first time love is mentioned in the Bible.

Where is righteousness mentioned for the first time?

Stars, where's the first time this is mentioned?

Hunter, there are only 2 people in the Bible that are called hunters.

And where is the first 1, or who is the first 1 mentioned?

So these are some tips for trying this principle out on your own.

Our next principle is called comparing scripture with scripture.

1 passage will prove to be a key that will unlock other passages.

And in this way, light will be shed upon the hidden meaning of the Word.

By comparing different texts, treating on the same subject, viewing their bearing on every side, the true meaning of the Scriptures will be made evident." So, let's just note that highlighted section.

In order to study the Bible properly, understanding this principle, she says, we should compare different texts treating on the what?

And then she says, viewing their bearing how?

So let's see if we can try this with an example.

I'm gonna invite you to open your Bibles, and I would like to ask for a volunteer, someone with a nice, strong voice, to read Romans 3, 24.

While they're getting that ready, if I could have another volunteer to read Romans 5, 1, and then another volunteer to read Romans 5, verse 9.

I say hand for Romans 3 verse 24 if you would be so kind, sir, and then the lady in front of him after if you read Romans 5, 1, and then right up here on the aisle if you would read Romans 5, 9.

The gentleman, sorry, the gentleman behind her.

Yeah, and then you'll read Romans 5.1, sorry.

And are justified freely by the grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

Okay, next verse, Romans chapter 5, verse 1.

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Thank you, and then here in the aisle, Romans 5, 9.

More than having now been justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

What word do all of those verses have in common?

Okay, so we're talking about being justified, and I wanna put these up on the screen so that you can see this.

I want you to look closely at these 3 verses because all 3 of these verses talk about being justified.

If I asked you, how are we justified according to the Bible, what would you say?

But I want you to think for a moment which 1 of these actually accomplishes the work of our justification.

Now, we're going to get into the nitty-gritty here because what she's telling us to do is we're looking at the subject of being justified.

And if I could simplify that, it just means to be made righteous.

Okay, so in order to be made righteous, the Bible describes 3 things.

It describes we're justified by grace, we're justified by faith, and we're justified by His blood.

Now each 1 of these gives us a little bit of a different understanding of how justification is accomplished.

You see, Romans 5, 9 says that we're justified by his blood.

Do you know that in the Bible, the Bible teaches that the blood is a symbol for a person's life.

So, whose blood are we justified according to Romans 5, 9?

Now, if Jesus' blood represents Jesus' life, then what kind of life did Jesus actually live?

So, here's in a nutshell what that means.

If you confess your sin, if you pray to God and ask Him to forgive you, Then what happens is that in God's record system, God puts to your account of sin, he covers it with the blood of Jesus.

And so when God looks at the sin, because it's being covered by the blood of Jesus, he no longer sees the sin.

Which means that if you ask for forgiveness of all your known sins, when God looks at your record, it's actually as though you have never sinned.

Now, that's what accomplishes, that's the agency that accomplishes our justification.

In other words, How do you get the blood to be applied to your account?

In other words, the blood of Jesus is what actually accomplishes our justification.

That's the actual agency that covers our sin.

But in order to get that blood applied to our account, we have to have faith that if we comply with the conditions of His promise, if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us.

Forgiveness and justification are 1 and the same.

And so if we ask God and we confess our sin, by faith we can be assured that that blood is now applied to our count.

Is it applied to our count because we're good?

Is it applied to our count because we're vegetarian or we don't park in the dean spot or is it because, you know, we come to the prayer meeting?

No, it's applied to our count because even though we are unworthy, God is gracious to us, amen?

So, that's why the Bible says we're justified by grace.

We don't deserve it, but because God is merciful, because God is faithful, and because God is so condescending to our weakened state, God is willing, if we comply with the conditions of the bountiful promises to be justified, to be forgiven, God will indeed justify us by his grace.

So, 3 verses all talking about justification, but each 1 gives us, if you might say, a different facet of this gem about justification.
