And the phones have only made it worse because we fill the gaps with something.

Because waiting is just plain hard to do.

I think of Noah who waited a hundred and 20 years for the flood and then a week after sealed in the ark and the taunting he waited as well.

I think of Abraham waited 25 years for the promise of a son.

I think of Joseph waiting 22 years before his prophetic promise was fulfilled.

And during that time, he sold into slavery, accused of rape, spent time in prison.

Where is the fulfillment of this promise?

I think of Moses waiting 40 years in Egypt, becoming impatient, slaying the Egyptian, waiting another 40 years in the desert, and then waiting another 40 years wandering in the desert, waiting to enter the promised land.

I think of Job, suffering greatly as he waited on God.

And I think of David, and that's the piece that we're looking at today, but waited 12 to 15 years before he is, well, he's anointed, we'll see today, 3 different times, but before it really meets its full conclusion.

I think of Hannah, waited and prayed for a child for probably years, well we know years, we just don't know how many, it just says year after year.

I think of Paul, waited 3 years in the desert of Arabia before God sent him to preach.

And then of course Jesus waited 30 years before beginning his ministry, but probably he has waited longer than anyone.

We don't ever have to wait more than 80 to 100 years.

And after this long time of waiting, David's promise finally comes to fruition.

I've entitled this 1 Pulling Down Strongholds.

Last time we were together, we talked about all of the civil war, all of the drama, all the back and forth, and people being killed, and is David responsible for this or not responsible?

But things finally come together after 7 and a half years in Hebron, and well, that's where we pick up the story, 2 Samuel chapter 5.

Then we read, then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron "'and spoke, saying, Indeed, we are your bone "'and your flesh.'" Now, the Spirit of Prophecy tells us that there are 8, 000 of the descendants of Aaron and the Levites that came to Hebron.

If we were to take the time to go to 1 Chronicles 12, It outlines the various groups from the tribes of Israel and the thousands that came from this tribe and the thousands from that tribe.

You add them all up, you have 348, 000 people that have come and gathered at Hebron.

Later, Spirit Prophecy uses the phrase nearly half a million souls thronged that city.

And in other accounts and chronicles and other places, talks about their bringing bread and supplies.

I mean, they would very quickly overwhelm everything that was had there.

If you think Walmart will have all your supplies, you will be thoroughly disappointed.

But they all come, they all converge on this place.

And they start saying, you are bone of our bone, flesh of our flesh.

Reminds me in a similar way of Jesus as our substitute.

And in verse 2, also in time past when Saul was king over us, you David were the 1 who led Israel out and brought them in and the Lord said to you, you shall shepherd my people Israel and be ruler over Israel." That word shepherd literally means pastor, you will pastor my people, you will shepherd them.

Verse 3, therefore all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord and then verse 4 or right before verse 4, the end of verse 3, and they anointed David king over Israel And as I mentioned before this is essentially the third time.

First time David is a teenager and then there's all that time that he's on the run for his life.

Then 7 and a half years ago, he's anointed there in Hebron, but it's only for the southern part of Israel, and there's civil war and all the rest.

Now everyone has come together, and in a united way, they say, we want you to be our king.

Can you imagine just for a moment the fanfare that would have gone into something this big?

I don't know about you, but I oftentimes find myself emotional any time I come across a story or something where the underdog who has suffered, who has been ridiculed, who has been beat up, who's been, you know, and the list goes on and on and on, but then there is vindication, and you say, wow, this feels right.

This is how it should be, and I imagine at that moment, with scores, literally thousands, half a million people there and David is anointed.

Friends, there's that day coming when every knee shall bow, every tongue will confess to the anointed of the Lord and they'll say, He is bone of our bone, flesh of our flesh, He is the Christ and we will follow Him.

And we're told in verse 4 that He's only 30 years old when He began to reign and he reigned for 40 years.

Jesus, too, was 30 when he began his ministry.

Patriarchs and Prophets 702 says, he who had waited patiently for the Lord beheld the promise of God fulfilled.

It would have seemed that when Samuel made known the will of God, it would have been at once fulfilled.

And let me submit to you that when God makes a promise it's gonna happen It's not a question of truth or falsehood.

It's not a question of political scheming or individual striving.

It would happen in God's way and in God's time.

And so David was anointed now King of all Israel.

And so friends, my first point I want to make this morning is God's Word is faithful.

When God makes a promise, He stands behind the promise.

And we may wait, we may go through hard times, we may have times that make us question, that build our faith, but friends, God's word is faithful.

What promise and promises has God made to you and to me today?

First Corinthians 2 verse 9, I has not seen nor ear heard nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love him.

I remember when Matthew was quite a bit younger, just learning how to talk.

We have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place.

We can look at Daniel 2, we can look at the image and how everything came to pass just as God said that it would.

Jesus on the road to Emmaus doesn't reveal himself, but uses prophecy to help them understand and to believe that these things happen just as God said they would.

In our Sabbath school lesson, 1, 260 days of darkness, just as God described it would.

We could look at the prophecies concerning Jesus, that he'd be born in Bethlehem, born of a virgin of David's lineage, target of a murder attempt, betrayed by a friend, sold for 30 silver coins, crucified, lots cast for his clothes, no bones broken, buried in a rich man's tomb, the year, the day, the hour of his death foretold, raised on the third day.

That is just a small piece of the prophecies we have, yet it has come to pass.

Just as God has said, God's word is faithful.

And how long are we to heed this prophetic word here in 2nd Peter?

It tells us until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts Revelation 21 1 & 2 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away also there was no more sea.

Then I John saw the holy city the new Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

And John's not the only 1 that saw this heavenly home.

Many of God's prophets throughout the ages have made known what's gonna take place.

And that he may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before, whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things.

This verse describes the restoration of everything.

God's going to restore everything that Adam and Eve lost.

He's going to restore the universe back to its condition before this blight of sin.
