And our scripture reading is taken from Exodus chapter 15 and verse 26.

The Bible says, and said, if thou will diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord your God, and will do that which is right in his sight, and will give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, he says, I will put none of these diseases upon you which I have brought upon the Egyptians, for I am the Lord that healeth you.

So our message this Sabbath is entitled History, Health, and the Holy Spirit.

And both of my titles are going to be a little different, sorry, Dawn, as we go through this today.

Father God, we thank you for this opportunity to share your word and to fellowship together, but more importantly, Lord, to bow down and to worship you.

I ask now, Lord, that you make me just a nail on the wall, a rusty, sorry nail, Lord, but upon that nail, I ask that you hang a portrait of Jesus Christ.

Let Eric Walsh not be seen or heard today.

Instead, Father, let us hear a word from the throne room of grace.

We're going to go to the book of Exodus, the 15th chapter, and we are going to start at verse 19.

This is just after the children of Israel have come through the Red Sea.

I want you to imagine what it would have been like to be in slavery and God sends Moses.

Moses was a failed messenger and prophet.

At 40 years of age he could have begun the process of liberating his people but instead of doing it God's way Moses killed a man out of anger.

He had to run for his life and for the next 40 years Moses is in the wilderness as it were among the Midianites and he is watching sheep.

You have to understand that Moses begins his actual ministry at 80 years of age.

The time in Egypt he learned very well the ways of the Egyptians, the language of the Egyptians, the customs of the Egyptians, but God had to have him watch sheep to learn the ways of God.

When they came out, as they were marching out, they were singing songs, they were happy, but they ran into the Red Sea and on either side were high cliffs.

Can you imagine when that first child of Israel looked back and saw the cloud of smoke and realized that Pharaoh had not let them go so easy.

Now he was chasing after them and they began to cry in panic.

Death seemed certain with the sea in front of them, the mountains on the sides, the multitude of how many they were, and their enemy, their former slave owners coming for them.

But let me tell you something, we serve a God who delivers out of impossible situations.

Can you imagine when Moses touches that water and the sea stands on its head?

Can you imagine that the ground they walk on is not even muddy.

It is so dry that when they get to the other side it's as if they had walked on concrete.

And as they're going through and they're making it over, Pharaoh is held back as God holds him back.

But once the children of Israel are safe, God lets him go in.

And in the foolishness of his desire to destroy the people of God, Pharaoh goes running into the water, thinking that the walls of water would stand for him like it did for the people of God.

And I don't know if you can imagine it, but I want you to think about what it must have been like when those 30 feet Each side walls of water come crashing down.

Pharaoh and his armies are destroyed once and for all.

After that, the Bible says here in Exodus 15 verse 19, this is the time as the children of Israel are beginning to celebrate.

Verse 19 says, "'For the horse of Pharaoh went in with his chariots, and with the horsemen into the sea.

And the Lord brought again the waters of the sea upon them.

But the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea dry land verse 20 and Miriam the prophetess the sister of Aaron took a timbrel in her hand and all the women went out after her with timbrels and dances when they realized they were finally safe They took out the timbrels and the women began to sing, they began to dance.

And verse 21 says, and Miriam answered them, sing ye to the Lord for ye have triumphed gloriously.

The horse and his rider has he thrown into the sea and that you can imagine the celebration after hundreds of years of slavery on the other side of the Red Sea.

But if you study the children of Israel, it's never all good.

Verse 22, so Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Sher, and they went 3 days in the wilderness and found no water.

And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah for the water were the water for they were bitter therefore the name of it was called Marah which means bitterness and look at what happens 3 days after they get free verse 24 and the people murmured against Moses saying, what shall we drink?

Now let me tell you something, if you had seen the 10 plagues fall on Pharaoh, you might have had faith that God could do whatever he needs to do for you.

If you'd seen the water stand up on itself, you might have thought God could do whatever he wants.

But when they get to some water that is bitter and they can't drink it, they begin to question God immediately.

Let me say this, for some of us, our Christian walk is similar.

As soon as we see trial, we question him.

The Spirit of Prophecy says this, But soon their faith was tested.

The Lord would know how much he could depend on his people to be true and loyal to him.

They went 3 days' journey into the wilderness and found no water and when they came to Marah they could not drink of the waters of Marah for they were bitter.

Did the people then show their faith in God because of the evidence they had received that Christ wrapped in the fold of the cloud that his glory might not destroy them was leaving them in person?

The people murmured against Moses saying, what shall we drink?

She says, instead of trusting and fearing the Lord, believing in him under apparently discouraging circumstances, they cast reflections upon their leader.

Satan's plan of temptation is always the same.

While everything moves prosperously, men think that they have faith.

She says, but when suffering, disaster, or disappointment comes, they lose heart.

A faith that is dependent on circumstances and surroundings that lives only when everything goes smoothly is not a genuine faith.

Oh, let me tell you, we're going to get into urban America, we're going to get into some issues with black America today, but I want you to know that this statement here must resonate.

Faith cannot be determined on your circumstances.

And here's where many are struggling, and let me just be plain.

The truth of the matter is we are living in the last days, church.

They don't want to hear it, but I can tell you when I watched 5 planes crash in the last few weeks, when I saw just...even now, they're, you know, just now they're dealing with the fact that there was a shooting in a hospital in Pennsylvania.

I could go on and on of the tragedies and the difficulties, the fires down south.

Church, we are living in the last days and our health message is designed for us to be able to survive it.

Verse 25, the Bible says, and he cried unto the Lord.

Moses cried, and the Lord showed him a tree, and when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet.

When he cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet, and there he, look at this, and there he made for them a statute and an ordinance and there he proved them Moses had to test them and say listen I would we were able to make this water sweet your faith cannot be dependent on the circumstances the tree was specially made we are told to be able to cure the water.

Let me tell you something, church, whatever you're going through right now, God has a tree for it.

Verse 26, and said, if you will diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord your God and will do that which is right in his sight and will give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, my Bible tells me and Moses told them, I will put none of these diseases upon you which I have brought upon the Egyptians, for I am the Lord that heals you.

In other words, your diseased state is like that water.

Basically what God is saying is, listen, if you can trust me, believe me, and obey me, I will fix it when it needs to be fixed.

You're gonna run into difficult circumstances.

What I came to tell you is God's got a tree ready for your maras.

So let's get a little more historical with this thing.

So did the Egyptians use surgery to treat brain cancer?

They've actually found Edwin Smith papyrus on the right there.

The 36 year old document does not use the word cancer, but that document you see on the right actually describes cancer.

It calls it an untreatable grave disease.

And they used to actually bore holes like neurosurgeons today in ancient Egypt in order to relieve pressure off the brain and be able to do brain surgery.

The Egyptians of that time were very dark-skinned people.

Now, how serious was this problem, the disease problem of the Egyptians.

Here's an interesting study, the Horace study, if you haven't heard of this, it's fascinating.

This says atherosclerosis in ancient Egyptian mummies, the Horace study, and what they did, I'm gonna move quick, what they did is they actually were able to, might not show on the TV screen, but you can see that they actually point out the actual blockages of atherosclerosis.

That is the calcified, hardened cholesterol plaques.

And you heard the talk about high HDLs, you want low LDL cholesterol.

If cholesterol is off in your body, it hardens, calcifies, blocks your vessels.
