What are the odds that the Creator of all things would condescend himself?

He could have left us on our own, but he came the first time, and in his coming the first time, gives us the assurance that he is coming again.

Father in heaven, we are grateful that you sent your Son who came the first time and in his coming the first time living a sinless life dying a brutal death but that He rose again to save us from our sins.

Heavenly Father, as we study Your Word, We need your Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth.

We pray that our study will lead to the sanctifying power of your word through the Holy Spirit to sanctify us in that truth.

We pray that you would speak to us in a very clear way today.

Today we continue our journey in the book of Daniel.

Next week we will be concluding that journey.

It is interesting that as we began this journey several months ago, that today we that today we find ourselves in the midst of troubling news.

Troubling news that troubled the antagonist of Daniel chapter 11.

If you have your Bibles, I'd encourage you to open them to Daniel chapter 11.

We've been studying through the book of Daniel, here in Daniel 11, the great battle of the king of the north and the king of the south with God's people always in the middle.

Daniel chapter 11 beginning in verse 44 the Bible says, But news from the east and the north shall trouble him.

Therefore he shall go out with great fury to destroy and annihilate many.

And he shall plant the tents of his palace between the seas and the glorious holy mountain, yet he shall come to his end and no 1 will help him.

At that time, Michael shall stand up, the great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people, and there shall be a time of trouble such as never was since there was a nation.

Even too at that time, at and at that time, your people shall be delivered.

Everyone who is found written in the book.

And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, some to shame and everlasting contempt.

Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament and those who turn many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever.

The King of the North, the King of the North which we have studied, it is the same power as the little horn power of Daniel 7, the little horn power of Daniel 8, it is the sea beast power of Revelation chapter 13.

It is the man of sin of second Thessalonians.

Daniel 11 verses 40 to 45 describes an ongoing battle and a future battle, a great battle between spiritual forces where God's people are caught in between.

But today our focus is on that troubling news from the East.

That news that the king of the north undoubtedly was troubled by, why?

Because there was a new king on the horizon, the true king, the king of kings and the Lord of lords.

The king of the north is troubled by the news of the king Jesus Christ coming.

You'll remember that this is the same word used that described Nebuchadnezzar who was troubled in Daniel chapter 2.

He was troubled by an encounter with that same coming King Jesus Christ.

Once again, the same word is used to describe Herod who was troubled.

The birth of the king of the Jews and a king in another king's territory is not good news.

Here, the king of the north is troubled by the news of the coming king.

The Bible says that the king of the North comes with fury to destroy and annihilate.

The news of the coming King Jesus didn't bring joy, peace, and happiness.

It doesn't bring joy, peace, and happiness to the king of the north, but rather it provides the avenue for the king of the north to go out with fury.

The word destroy is literally used, it is literally translated to exterminate, often used in the context of war or mass killing.

The king of the north goes out with fury to destroy and if that's not enough, The second word used there is the word annihilate.

In the Greek translation of the Old Testament, this word is the same word used to describe the sea beast's work of Revelation 13, it's persecuting power, it's persecuting fury to those who will not submit to its heretical power.

But even more sobering is this word annihilate is the same word that is used in John 8 44.

And in John 8, 44, he says, you are of your father, the devil, and the desires of your father, you want to do.

He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him.

When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources.

The word murderer is the same word used to describe the work of the King of the North.

The King of the North is motivated to do the work of the devil.

And the King of the North will stop at nothing to continue its dominance.

Not only to continue its dominance, but will stop at nothing to cling to power.

By persecuting the people of God, by attempting to thwart the work of calling attention to the true King Jesus Christ.

And the news of the soon-coming King Jesus Christ from the East, That news of Him coming to take His throne as King of Kings and Lord of Lords troubles the King of the North.

And in His last great effort to continue His dominance, It says he shall plant tents of his palace between the seas and the glorious holy mountain.

The language here draws on the same language or rather the book of Revelation draws upon this same language to describe the events recorded in Revelation 16 and the great last battle between good and evil, the battle of, as the Bible describes it, the Battle of Armageddon.

Who would have known that Armageddon has anything to do with the Christmas story?

Many have missed the true meaning of the Battle of Armageddon by focusing on some literal war in a literal valley in the Middle East.

And by doing so, they have lost the focus of the spiritual battle that is going on right now.

That battle, Armageddon, is literally translated Mount of Megiddo.

The literal town of Megiddo is in southern Israel and the little town of Megiddo is located between the seas and the glorious holy mountain Mount Carmel.

It was the place of the ancient showdown between the forces of good and evil.

The prophet Elijah on 1 side, the prophets of Baal on the other.

Daniel 11.45 predicts there is a day, both now and coming soon, where there will be once again another great showdown between the forces of good and evil, between Christ and Satan, between God's people and the forces of darkness.

And in that final great battle, Jesus will emerge victorious and the devil and his forces will be defeated.

Verse 45 continues saying, yet he, the king of the north, shall come to his end and no 1 will help him.

Often we focus, often we focus on the identification of the king of the north and the king of the south and we lose sight of the fact the king of the north who is an arch enemy of God, he will come to an end.

Important because the king of the north while he will come to his end, and no 1 will help him, and that ending often is used, that word end is often used in the context of God's judgment to cut off and sever.

That same exact word is used in Isaiah chapter 9.

Isaiah chapter 9, 1 of the prophecies of the Messiah, Isaiah chapter 9, verses 6 and 7.

Isaiah 9, 6 and 7 says this, for unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be upon his shoulders, and his name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Of the increase of his government and peace, there will be no end.

The king of the north's kingdom will come to an end.

The king of kings and lord of lords will have no ending to his kingdom.

The Messiah Jesus Christ who came as a baby, lived as a boy, then lived as a man perfectly and died for our sins.

That same Jesus who rose from the grave, ascended into heaven, and is now seated at the right hand of God, who is wonderful, counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, His kingdom, His reign shall have no end.

The king of the north, the kings of this world, their kingdoms will end, But Christ's kingdom, there is no end.

How is it that this frightful power, the king of the north is brought to his end?

Daniel 12, 1 tells us exactly how he is brought to his end.

Daniel 12, 1 says, at that time, at that time what will happen?

Michael shall stand up, the great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people, and there shall be a time of trouble such as never was since there was a nation.

We need to remember that the Bible when it was originally written was not written with chapter and verse division.

This is 1 complete flowing thought from the end of Daniel 11 into Daniel chapter 12.
