Freed Up

We don't know how to be free consistently.

We're going to talk about 3 things this morning.

We're going to show the problem, we're going to show what we want, and we're going to show our solution, praise the Lord.

There's a quotable quote that says, what we do not understand, we do not possess.

What we do not understand, we do not possess.

Now, of course, faith, a person could instantly say, well, this quotable quote's not quite right.

But it does make sense in the fact that if you totally don't understand something, you just don't possess it.

So freedom, if we don't completely understand it, do we really possess freedom in our life?

I think that each 1 of us need experiences like Christian Berdal had, where God clicked something in our mind and then we understood something and from that point on we were changed.

So those pivotal points in life, cherish them.

I would hear this message or that message and from that moment I would go away and each different message I would hear would help me in my Christian walk.

And I never changed because I would decide that sermon was pivotal to change my life.

So you make a point to change your life and then remember that message.

All right, let's see what's next on here.

We don't know what it's like to experience radical freedom.

Freedom to us sounds like victory over a sin or something.

But you think about freedom to some people means, let's say there's a war going on.

For instance, in 1944, there was our Americans that were going into Paris.

And they thought that there was going to be all sorts of problems and things.

And the 1 particular guy was in the front car and he had his carbon ready and he heard some windows open.

So he's ready and he realizes these people are crying and so happy that they don't have the Hitler, you know, control on them anymore.

And they come running out of their houses and they throw their very best food, like just kind of like when Jesus entered Jerusalem, they put their best things out there.

And 1 lady was laying on a stretcher on the ground because she couldn't move.

She used a mirror because she was so stiff.

She used a mirror just to watch the people driving into her city to free them.

We don't understand that kind of freedom.

Can you imagine where your life is at stake all the time and then you have freedom.

So when those kind of people see the word freedom, they're just, they see something that we don't see.

I asked my mom what she thought of when she thinks of freed up.

And she told, because I was kind of telling her about my sermon, I said, well, what do you think of when you're freed up?

His truth dispels the darkness in your life.

When Eve sinned, she brought the darkness and void back into the world.

But Jesus, by living his life on this earth and dying our death on the cross, dispels the darkness forever.

And that's something that we, by faith, have to grasp.

The darkness is gone forever, the potential of that, but I have to claim it for my own life.

So now, because he's lived and he's died, you can be freed up, free to live and dream and plan, free to walk in the path he leads you in.

We want to be free and what free means is, I looked this up in the dictionary, it just had some great words that each 1 of us, as soon as you hear these words, you think, yes, I need those, I need each 1 of those to explain what my Christian experience is like.

You know, we want our path to God to be unrestricted.

We want to have a clear access to the Lord.

We're in a culture where we do like things to be easy.

And you know, the Lord works with that, and he says, my burden is light.

You know, he encourages us in the Bible that his way is easy, and sometimes we forget that it can be, he says, Paul talks about, we've went away from the simplicity of the gospel, I believe it's Paul, I may be misquoting there.

These are words that we all can relate with.

Sometimes we don't understand freedom, but we do understand bountiful, charitable.

What it means to be free with one's love to someone is to be charitable.

We need Satan to let go of us, to disengage all his armies from attacking us.

Freed up looks like peace, similar to what the disciples must have experienced after the storm.

You know they're in that storm and they thought they'd die and then Jesus calms the storm.

So we want peace, we want light, we want deliverance, We need comfort.

So this part of the message, we're talking about what do we want.

The problem is that we don't know how to be free consistently.

What we want is all these different things, and we also want to be free consistently.

You know, we live in Montana and so this picture really we understand.

The snow and it's the mountain peak and sometimes Christian life feels like that.

And I'm going to share just a little bit more about that in just a second here.

So the disciples, you know, They made their life out there in that sea, but they came to a point where what?

It was really, really, really severe for them.

Well, we, as Adventists, we make our life out of our message, our lifestyle, but we're facing, you can't read that very well, I apologize, we're facing hard questions, Storms in this world.

Have you ever felt just kind of scared, like this world's ending, am I going to make it all the way?
