Welcome to Sabbath School brought to you by It Is Written.

We're glad that you are joining us today.

We are studying the book of Exodus, an exciting book, and especially the part that we're looking at right now, which is through the Red Sea.

If you happen to have missed any of the previous lessons, be sure to watch them.

This is lesson number 6, Through the Red Sea.

Father, thank you for being with us today as we open your word once again.

You've blessed us abundantly with a deeper understanding of you and your character as we've studied up to this point and we ask that today you would make yourself even more clearly known to us.

So we're glad that you are here, but we are also glad to have the author of this quarter's Sabbath school lesson with us.

Moskala, thank you again for being with us.

I am very glad to be here and study the Word of God together.

So this part of the story, going through the Red Sea, we've seen how God has given Moses opportunities to speak to Pharaoh, Pharaoh opportunities to repent and to let the Israelites go.

Unfortunately, he has made bad decision after bad decision, after bad decision.

And that has culminated in the 10th plague, which is the loss of the firstborn.

Under what circumstances does Pharaoh finally let the children go?

Well, this was a very dramatic situation and a very tragic 1, because we read right in the Gospel according to Exodus in chapter 12, verse 29 on, that at midnight, and this is probably when at midnight comes God's judgment.

This is why probably why people usually think at midnight this and that event happens, like God's judgments are coming.

And this was really what happened here in the story about Exodus.

At midnight, the Lord struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the firstborn of the prisoner, who was in the dungeon, and the firstborn of all the livestock as well.

And Pharaoh and all his officials and all the Egyptians got up during the night and there was loud wailing in Egypt for there was not a house without someone dead.

So you see the tragedy, tragedy for the whole nation when they did not say or do what God really asked them to do.

So disobedience to the Living God has always tragic, very tragic consequences.

Of course, when now this tragedy is there and many dead in every family, someone, so we read that during that night now pharaoh summoned moses and aaron during the night he was not waiting now and he is now commanding them And this is a series of different commands.

He said, up, up, leave the first command, my people, you and the Israelites, go, worship the Lord as you have requested.

Take your flocks and herds as you have said, and go.

And then he's like adding, and please bless also me.

You know, it's amazing that at the end, he really wants God's blessing and everything is devastation.

You know, land is in devastation And also the families are now mourning of the loss of the firstborn.

But now, Finally, he is giving that urgent command, go, worship, and take everyone.

Not only, you know, like first he said, you can go, but your family and livestock can stay.

Then he said, you go and your wives, they will be okay.

And then finally he said, everybody, even with the livestock, you go.

Well, we understand that it was not a very sincere and deep conviction because after, we can say like after a few hours, he decided to persuade them and he's saying, well, what I have done and they have to come back and serve us.

And most probably also he wanted to execute some of them as exemplary things that they have to obey what He is commanding and saying because he plays God.

And we read in verse 33 that the Egyptians urged the people to hurry and leave the country.

And God's people were ready after the Passover, after they showed their complete trust in the Lord, that the land is for them like the leader and this is because of the land they have life they are going out and they started their journey journey to the promised land and of course this journey will be again not so smooth they think in their mind God will put them also in test.

But right now when they are going, they are excited, this is like everything is in the air, they are free, they are liberated, they are saved, they are delivered from the oppression, they are redeemed.

So they are now celebration, they celebrate this redemption they have.

Redemption because of God, Redemption in God.

So there's an excitement in the air that God is doing what he has promised to do.

There is something interesting that happens here.

Why did God command that the firstborn should be consecrated?

In the very beginning of the story, when God is asking Moses to go to Pharaoh, He said, Pharaoh, let my people go because my people is my firstborn son.

And he said, if you will not let my firstborn go, your firstborn will die.

So in the unfolding of the narrative and all the whole story, we read that the firstborn, now literally firstborn of the Israelites, they were spared.

But the firstborn of the Egyptians, they died because of the unbelief and rebellion and stubbornness toward God.

And now God is saying, because I saved you, because of my mercy, now as a result of what I did for you, give me your firstborn sons." So this is now like an act of gratitude that they will be carrying this beauty of God and they will be teaching their families, the firstborn who is responsible for the whole family, they will teach them how to serve the Lord.

They will be their special responsibility.

And so, of course, later on we know that even though this firstborn, they were not always faithful.

So God chose then instead of the firstborn to be like those who will be the teachers, even though some of that responsibility state, there will be the priesthood, special priesthood, even though all the nation should be the priesthood of all believers, and then with a special assignment for the firstborn.

But later on, the Levites and the family of Aaron have the new responsibility.

So we're going to dig into that a little bit further in the story.

Let's jump into the actual crossing of the Red Sea now.

Why was this such a significant, such a dramatic event in the story of the Exodus?

Well, I would say that it is really the most extraordinary event in the history of the Old Testament.

Till the cross, you know, nothing so spectacular happened.

And this is the model how God wanted to lead his people all the time.

They are in the situation where on the 1 side is like mountains, there is a desert, they are coming from the desert, and there is a Red Sea.

And then comes the army, so they are like cornered.

And I think that is again God's providence behind that he wants to tell them, I am here for you.

So when they are cornered and they are seeing now that the Egyptian army is coming, humanly speaking, they know that they are dead, or again enslaved, and they will be probably beaten, and that will be a very dramatic and unfortunate situation for them.

So now in that situation, they are starting to cry to God, but instead of going to God, they are crying now to Moses.

And even telling him, why did you do this all to us?

And God is speaking to Moses when now Moses is crying to God.

And This text I like very much because now really God is coming and telling to Moses that he need to trust him.

And Moses answered to people, Do not be afraid.

I am reading now from chapter 14, verse 13 on.

Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today.
