The Assurance of Salvation

All right, this morning's presentation is entitled, The Assurance of Salvation.

Are you guys ready to study God's word this morning?

Brother Nick and I did a whole podcast on the topic of salvation.

We have 13 presentations also on RevLove.tv.

So if you're interested in knowing more about salvation, you could feel free to do that.

But this morning's presentation is very important.

I was asked just a few days ago if I could preach.

So if I'm a little bit Trying to figure out where I'm at.

You know why, but I'm going to pray for the Holy Spirit to guide us this morning.

Let's go ahead and bow our heads for a word of prayer.

Our Father which art in heaven, we want to thank you so much for bringing us here this morning to study your word.

We are here because you have something special in store for us.

And Father, I'm thankful that Jesus Christ came to die just even just for 1 person.

Thankful Lord that we could be assured of some things this morning.

And so as we study your word, I pray that you would please invigorate our life with your presence.

Please help us to leave this place refreshed.

I may have shared this story before, but it bears repeating.

About 10 years ago, I was going to 1 of my best friend's wedding.

He was lucky enough or blessed enough, I should say, to have his wedding at a beachfront in Mexico, and he had this whole beachfront to himself.

So he had a huge house, a huge beach right there, a private beach just to himself.

And I was 1 of the guys that was coming out in his wedding and all the guys, you know, we went out onto the beach.

It was so amazing just to have it all to ourselves and we wanted to play some games.

So we were playing a frisbee game where we would throw the frisbee and 1 of the guys would run out and try to catch it before the wave hits us.

And so we took turns, we tried to throw it as far as we could, try to run out to the water and catch it before a wave would hit us.

And so we did this for a while and I'm not a strong swimmer.

I'm not a professional swimmer in the least.

But I was out there having fun and someone threw it to me and I jumped up to catch it and it just kind of grazed my finger and it went into the water.

So I went out and I started swimming towards the Frisbee.

And as I was swimming, I got caught in a rip tide, a rip current, and it just took me under.

Now, have any of you ever been caught in a rip tide or a current like that?

And I remember it just sucked me underneath the water and I was hitting the ground on the floor of the ocean floor right there.

And it just kept taking me and taking me.

I was trying to get up, trying to get up.

And finally I was able to get up above the water.

And at this point, I was kind of a distance away from the shore where everyone was at.

And everybody was just kind of looking at me, thinking I was having fun.

And so I remember I was taken back under and I'm just struggling, just kicking.

And finally, I was able to get back again.

And as soon as I was able to get back again.

And as soon as I was to get back over the water, I looked at my friends and 1 of my best friends who was there, I saw him turn around away from me and take off the other direction.

And So 1 of the last things I said was, help.

And I remember I swallowed so much ocean water, my lungs were literally burning.

And What my friend happened to be doing, I did not know this, is he was running to go get those things that you put on your feet so you could paddle really fast.

He put flippers on and he ended up getting a life vest and he grabbed 1 for me and he went out into the water to go rescue me.

And he was kicking and going as fast as he could.

He was a really good swimmer or he is a really good swimmer.

And finally he was able to get to where I was at.

And I was able to come up out of the water and he threw this life jacket at me that was tied with a string and he said, grab it.

And so I happened to grab it and he was just pulling, pulling.

Now I remember being under the water and I remember thinking, this is it.

And just a few months after this point, just a few months later, I was supposed to marry Abby.

And so as I was in the water, as I was drowning, 1 of the first things, 1 of the things I was thinking about was, wow, I'm not gonna marry the love of my life, this is it.

But all of a sudden, as I'm contemplating, thinking about this and I'm thinking I'm gonna die, my lungs are burning, this peace settled over me.

And I remember just coming out again, I just had like this surge of strength that I was able to come out.

And just as I peeked over, that's when my friend threw the LifeVest over onto me.

And I remember I was not all with it because of all the water that I drank.

And I remember as we get back to the shore and all my friends gather around me and there was friends of mine that were nurses.

They got around me and they were checking everything saying, are you okay?

1 of the first things they said that I said was, did you get the frisbee?

And so they said, no, we didn't get the Frisbee.

And finally, after a few moments, you know, I came back to it, I guess you could say.

And 1 of the friends that grabbed me out of the water said to me something.

He said, David, did you think you were going to die?

And I looked at him and I said, absolutely.

He said, David, why was it then that when I grabbed you out of the water, You did not have a look of fear or dismay upon your face.

If you thought you were going to die, wouldn't you be afraid?

When I got you, you had nothing of those things.
