A New Trajectory

I expected to hear a louder good morning.

You know, I'm going to give my 2 cents, my endorsement of that Bangla help ministry.

I went to Bangladesh in 2006, I want to say, And after 2 days there in the bathroom situation, I was like, I'm never coming back here again.

And it was the most beautiful experience of my life.

I would been back 4 times and if you want to kick your spiritual life into high gear, I highly recommend a trip to Bangladesh.

Get involved in missions abroad, because this can't possibly be your world view.

This right here, this bubble, it cannot be.

You would think that there's not a problem going on in the world.

So, my name is Carlos Moretta and I'm happy to be here with you.

But if it looks like I'm attached to my notes, it's because I am.

I didn't come here to preach a sermon, I came here to share some thoughts with you.

If you want a sermon, we're finishing at approximately 1130, go to church for the divine hour service.

I just want to share some thoughts with you this morning.

Josie, Josie asked me, she's been asking me to speak for about 2, 3 years, and I've always said no.

And, And for those of you who know me, I've spoken here a lot, but a lot has changed.

God has been good to this university, to this church.

He's been good to this ministry, Advent Hope.

And it's a lot of responsibility to speak to the people of God.

But again, I told you that I just didn't feel like I was ready to share.

I didn't want to stand up here and give a crash and burn message, right?

But if I relied on feelings to get through my life, I wouldn't do anything.

But do we rely on those feelings to do anything?

Like, our lives have to be founded on principle, first and foremost.

Yes, there are feelings involved, but they don't take, they don't supersede the principles that we live and we worship by.

For those of you who don't know, My wife and I, Daphne, we were attendees, regular attendees and supporters of Advent Hope for, I think it was over 20 years.

And I can't tell you how many times I was sitting in, of course it wasn't in this building, but I can't tell you the struggles that I went through sitting in those seats, listening to the messages, struggling, and I grew up in the church.

This is a place where my parents would gladly come and worship and feel alive and feel rejuvenated being with young people, listening to messages that were from the Bible.

And I entered the most incredible spiritual warfare of my life.

There were times I had to get up and walk out and sit on the stairs and weep.

And Daphne would come out and be like, we were just dating at the time.

What's wrong, wasn't that awesome, Isn't that incredible?

Because it wasn't until I got here that I started growing.

I grew up in the church, always involved in the church, never had that, you know, sowing my wild oats moments.

I was always here, but it was here that I started to struggle.

So something told me I had to persist, and praise God for the courage to persist.

Praise God for young people on this campus that don't come to church to be entertained.

They come to church to say, what can I bring?

Praise God for the ministry of the Holy Spirit.

Praise God for students that want to know the Word of God more than the gross anatomy that they consume during the week.

Pray that God puts His words in my mouth.

And like Pastor Randy Skeet always says, he says several things, turn off your phone, he says a few other things, but he says, I want you to think, think about what you hear this morning.

Are the principles that I hear in this message something I need to employ in my life?

Please do not leave here unchanged this morning.

The message this morning is entitled, A New Trajectory.

Father in heaven, I have no business standing here.

Through the last 2 months, we've been wrestling about a message that you want me to share here, and here I am.

It's not my message, it's what you put on my heart.

And I pray, Lord, for every heart here, for every attendee, everyone who might be listening through the live stream.

Speak to us now through your Holy Spirit, I pray in Jesus' name, amen.

For those of us old heads that have a little bit of white, you might be sitting there going, how did I get here this morning?

This place right now, have you ever been driving home from work or from school with a thousand things tumbling around your brain?

And You're so enraptured in your thoughts that when you pull into the driveway, you don't know how you got there.

You don't remember the right turns, the left turns, the stop lights, or the stop signs.

It's pretty scary, but the brain is an amazing thing.

You who listened to me this morning, how did you make it to Loma Linda?

To the nursing program, to the PT, OT, MFT, dental, medical, How did you get here?

How many right turns and left turns did you take before you made it here to Advent Hope?

I'm going to see if I can get all the technology to work with me this morning.

You know the story of Saul, a man who was on a path.

He had a bright future among the Jewish erudite elite and the Jewish nation, educated, motivated, zealous.
