What is a Man of God?

Our seminar for today is entitled The Last Man Standing.

It is so good to be here with brethren in nature, with brothers and elders in the truth, and to be able to cover a very, very important subject.

I'm really grateful that we can be here, and I'm really grateful that the Lord would be so gracious to really determine and enlighten our minds and our hearts, most importantly, our experience with Him.

So, when we look at the world today, we see that there is moral decay here, there, and everywhere.

We see that men aren't being men as God had designed them to be.

We see that men, many are relinquishing responsibility.

They don't really step up as God has called for us to step up.

And so we're seeing morals collapsing, truth being mocked, courage being rare.

Yet God is calling for men who will not fall when everything else does.

He's looking for men who will stand and do justly.

Men who will love mercy and walk humbly before their God.

Inside each and every single 1 of us, there are 2 men indeed.

The old man is corrupt, fearful, selfish, proud, bitter, resentful.

He has all these characteristics that do not proceed from God.

The new man, on the other hand, he's created in righteousness and holiness.

1 of them must die and the other must live.

The last man standing must be the new man.

And so before we delve more into these thoughts, I want us to begin with a word of prayer.

Father God in heaven, we thank you for this beautiful Sabbath day and we're grateful for the opportunity to learn of thee who is meek and lowly in heart.

We ask that you may open up our hearts today, give us a willingness to learn and to experience true transformation of our hearts and minds.

Help us Lord to understand the right and how we may live out this righteous life.

Let's turn our Bibles to the book of Ephesians.

We're going to go to Ephesians and we're going to go to the fourth chapter in the book of Ephesians.

There is where Paul talks about the old and the new man.

Ephesians chapter 4 and we're going to take a look at verse 22 and when we're all there we can say amen.

Okay so Ephesians chapter 4 and verse 22 is going to present to us a man and this is 1 of the men in us and there the Bible says That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts.

This old man is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts.

When looking at this old man, the old man is not just bad habits.

The old man is not just the bad things that we do.

Because what that'll do is that'll just make things, in terms of our Christian walk a legal issue.

Our Christian walk and Christian experience is not merely a legal issue.

Sin when it is finished brings forth death.

And so what I'm hoping that we can do today is shift our minds from just our legal standing before God and being less preoccupied with our legal standing before God and being more preoccupied with how God looks in front of the universe.

Legalism is being preoccupied with how we look in front of God.

When we are, instead of legalists, true friends of God, like Abraham, like Moses, then we are more preoccupied with how God looks in front of man.

So it shifts things from being less self-centered to Christ-centered.

So the old man, it's not just about the bad things, the wrong things that he does.

And so as we shared a little bit earlier, we have power over what we believe, but what we believe has power over us.

What we believe determines the way that we live, move, and have our being.

This has to be true because when we take the example of Lucifer, for example, Lucifer at first believed the truth about God, that God was altogether lovely, that God is kind, that God is the creator of all things, and that from Him proceeds goodness, joy, love, truth, faithfulness.

But there came a note of discord, there came a point in time, there's no explanation for it, to explain it is to defend it, I'm talking about sin, there's something that changed in his mind.

There was a perversion in the way that he was looking at God.

And in his imagination, he began to see things about God that were not true.

And so he began to picture God as someone who God was not.

And by beholding this lie about God in his mind, the bearer of light became the bearer of lies.

By looking at something that was not true about God, He became that very thing.

God is expecting love, but he himself is hardly loving.

God expects of us, has unreasonable expectations of us.

Remember the parable that Jesus gave of the man with the talents, right?

He gave several men different talents, and the 1 that had only 1 talent.

He said I know that you come to reap that There where you have not sown in other words you are unreasonable That was the devil's thoughts about God and he himself became that very thing.

We become like the things that we admire.

Our minds will expand or contract according to the dimensions of what it is that we study.

Do you really know the 1 and true God as He is?

You see, our characters can rise no higher than our conception of the character of God.

You cannot become any better than the version of God that's in your minds.

That's why those that worship beasts and whatnot, they can be no better in their treatment of others than beasts.

If you worship a fish, and there were nations back in the day, they worship the fish god.

You worship a fish, then you're gonna be a bit fishy.

If you worship a crab, then you're gonna be a bit crabby.

If you worship a dog, then you're gonna be a bit doggy.

You become like the thing that you admire, the thing that you worship.

We may have the doctrines of truth, which reflect Christ, but do we have a culture, an attitude that reflects Him?

Because these are questions that are reflective.

These are questions where you have to really examine yourself whether or not you be in the faith.

Because as we said, you have power over what you believe, but what you believe has power over you.

That is what dictates the way that you live, move, and have your being.

And so you see why It's so important to understand and to know the truth.

Because when you know the truth, the truth will make you free.
