Attachment Theory and Your View of God and Salvation Have you ever wondered why for some people it's really easy for them to trust God, and some people really struggle?

Have you ever noticed that some people thinking about God as a loving, warm, caring being is natural, And some people have a real difficulty doing that.

Have you noticed that some people exercise faith very easily and some people really struggle to exercise faith?

Why do some people naturally can do these things and others can't?

I want to run you through a series of questions and I just want you to think about yourself as I ask you these questions.

And actually throughout this entire presentation just be asking yourself, is this me?

Let the Holy Spirit speak to you during this time.

Do you feel like you must constantly seek God's approval?

Next question, do you ever worry about not being good enough?

Do you worry about not being good enough?

Or do you struggle with the feeling of emotional closeness to God?

Do you feel like you prefer, you notice you prefer more distant, theological, or intellectual relationship with God?

Or do you often feel confused in your relationship with God?

Do you suffer from a lot of confusion in your walk with the Lord?

Do you find that you desire a close relationship with Him, but at the same time you're kind of scared of Him?

And my last question, do you feel like you have a hard time praying?

Like do you find yourself, you're on your knees praying and you find yourself saying, what do I say?

If any of these resounded with you, and they tend to resound with a large number of people, at the basis of all this, I believe, is attachment theory, your attachment style.

And let me go on and explain what that is in a minute.

I'll get into what attachment theory is and attachment issues, but I want to start with the Bible verse together.

Let's start with some foundational principles here.

Let's go to 2nd Corinthians 3 in verse 18.

But we all with open face, beholding as in a glass, that could mean a mirror, the glory of the Lord are what?

Are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the spirit of the Lord.

And this, we get a very well-known principle from this, by beholding we become changed.

What you look at, you're gonna be conformed to that image.

In the very beginning, let's go back to the top.

Does anyone have a non-King James translation?

So you can't just look at God, you have to look at him unveiled.

Well, we don't have time, but on your own time, if you would read verses 13 through 17, which is the context, you see he, Paul refers to the story of Moses.

Do you remember a time when Moses had to wear a veil?

Yeah, he had just come from Mount Sinai, spending, was it 40 days with God?

And how did the Israelites relate to that glory coming off of his face?

So the veil was blocking the glory coming from the face of Moses.

By the way, Moses was a type of Christ there because as we see the glory of the Father in the face of Jesus Christ, the Bible says.

So they couldn't handle the glory, they put a veil there, and if you read the context, Paul says, the veil is still there with the Jews.

2000 years later, the veil is still there.

They have not removed the veil, but the veil is not now between them and the face of Moses, now the veil is between them and the Holy Scriptures.

You could be essentially around the glory of God, but there could be a veil in between causing you to not clearly see his image.

And so what I would want to know if I want to reflect God's image, do I have that veil, number 1, and what is it, right?

I think that veil could be several things, and there's a Bible study we could, you know, that I could take people through to show what some of those things are, fear, you know, bitterness, those are veils.

But the essence of what I think that veil is, is trauma.

And let me go to another passage with you now.

Let's go to 1st John chapter 3 and verse 2.

And it says, Beloved, now we are the sons of God, but it does not yet appear what we shall be.

But we know that when He shall appear, we shall be like Him.

Notice, for we shall see Him as He is." Now this passage has a pretty obvious end-time application.

So this has a application to the second coming of Christ, but there's a spiritual application to this passage as well.

And it refers to when we see God, we become like Him.

Now compare that, put that together with this saying.

Wherever truth is, it originates from God.

It's from a nice Nin, and it says, we don't see things as they are, we see them as we are.

And notice it says, you'll be like God when you see Him as He is.

We need to stop seeing things as we are, meaning through the filters, the sunglasses of our experiences in our lives, and see Christ as He is.

Let him define himself instead of us defining him through our negative experiences and our traumas.
