Anyway, the Washington Post in September 29, 2014 reported on an experiment done by a security firm called F-Secure.

They set up a free Wi-Fi and a hot spot in a busy public area.

You can think of something akin to a Taco Bell or a Starbucks or something.

When people tried to connect, they were presented with the terms and conditions.

Buried in the fine print was a Herod clause.

It stated that in exchange for free Wi-Fi, the user agreed to give the company permanent ownership of their firstborn child.

They checked the box and technically, they signed away their children for 30 minutes of internet access.

Now, that company obviously didn't collect on the contract, but it exposes a spiritual reality.

We want the benefits of the connection, of the promise, but we tend to often ignore the terms of the relationship.

This morning I'd like for us to consider carefully the terms and conditions regarding the covenant that we've been given.

Today we're going back to the very first place in Scripture where the word covenant appears.

We're going to Genesis 6 and hence the title of the message today, Terms and conditions.

Dear Lord, please speak to our hearts clearly.

We're in a series on Genesis and today we're in chapter 6 where we will wade into the flood story, if you will.

Interestingly enough, it is in this chapter that we first see the word covenant appear, as I said.

And as we will see, it appears There is a powerful connection between the story that we see and the meaning or the implication as it pertains to the covenant agreement.

So open your Bibles if you haven't already.

We'll have it on the screen as well, but just so you could keep your bearings, open your Bibles as we set the scene.

The chapter opens by simply describing the wickedness of the world at that time.

Now mind you, we're only in the sixth chapter of the whole Bible.

Sixth chapter, and already things have gone terribly wrong.

Notice verse 1, it came to pass when men began to multiply on the face of the earth and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful, and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose.

And the Lord said, My spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh, yet his days shall be 120 years.

There were giants on the earth in those days and also afterward when the sons of God came into the daughters of men and they bore children to them.

Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown, the Bible says.

Before we go too far, I want to address something that perhaps is not questioning for anyone here, but not a question of any of you, but just in case, I want to speak briefly to this notion of the sons of God.

Some believe that the sons of God mentioned here were fallen angels.

Jesus made it clear and therefore to try to apply that to this text seems far-fetched at best.

Actually these verses in Genesis 6 are contrasting the godly line of Seth with the ungodly line of Cain that we studied last week.

The problem, God's people began to intermarry with unbelievers.

I want to especially speak to the young in this congregation, those who perhaps have not yet found that special spouse, that special partner in life.

Do not let your heart become entangled with someone who doesn't hold the same faith as you, regardless of how attractive they are.

You might say, well, I think they're pretty.

Don't trust yourself in that kind of situation, because you might just start to fall in love with someone that is forbidden to you.

The Bible says, do not be unequally yoked.

And while small compromises may be the beginning, it will lead to a great falling away.

Verse 5, okay, that's a whole study in itself, but we'll stop for there.

Verse 5, I want you to pay careful attention to the words here.

The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

If you skip down to verse 12 in Genesis, you'll see, so God looked upon the earth and indeed it was corrupt for all flesh corrupted their way on the earth.

And this reminds us of what Jesus did in Genesis chapter 3, when he went looking for Adam and Eve.

We see an investigative judgment right here, do we not?

He is investigating the ways and hearts of men.

Just like we saw an investigative work there in Genesis chapter 3, we see 1 here at the flood account.

God is looking, God is seeing, and just as the scripture said this morning, God is still looking And God is still seeing.

In this case, He says, I will destroy man.

And I'll just add, the Bible still says, in Revelation 14, 7, the hour of his judgment has come.

God is still carrying out a judgment today.

Text says the earth is corrupt and if you look elsewhere in Scripture you find this term corruption is often associated with idolatry as well as the perversion and degradation of the worship of God.

Indeed, idolatry and false worship were prevalent in the time leading up to the flood.

Genesis 6, verses 6 and 7 says, And the Lord was sorry that he had made man on the earth.

So the Lord said, I will Destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth.

For both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.

The text says in verse 6 that God was sorry that he had made man on the earth.

Or perhaps a clear way to describe this in the capture of the thought of the text is to say that God was grieved that He had made man.

He was deeply grieved by what He saw of His creation.

According to verse 5, The key problem wasn't just their actions.

The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every intent of what?

The thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

This describes complete mental saturation with evil.
