May I Have Your Attention Please?

My name is Carlos Moretta, and most of you kind of know me.

We were brothers and sisters here at Advent Hope for several years, and some of you, most of you, are familiar faces, but there's a lot of you who I've never seen before.

I graduated from the residency here at Loma Linda in 2009.

By the grace of God, and God alone, I don't recommend it to anyone.

And what I am not is, I'm not a theologian.

I like to consider myself a practical Christianity kind of guy.

We learn a lot and I have to say my decade here, well, I was here a little over a decade in Loma Linda, but my time here in Advent Hope was a time of spiritual growth for me, such as I'd never experienced in my life.

And I heard a lot of uncomfortable sermons and messages here.

That's what I needed to get pricked at my heart, to grow, to search these things, to make my father's faith my own.

So when I come and share with you this morning, please don't be offended at what I say.

Since I was here so long, it's like I feel like I'm among family.

So please, like, nod your head or just, You can, You can do all that refractory stuff at me, because it makes me feel like you guys are actually feeling what I'm saying.

I'd like to tell you what's weighing my heart down, what's burdening my heart.

And I wanted to share with you, because I do believe that today's topic is a pertinent topic and I think it affects every single person here.

Furthermore, I think that you should carefully or prayerfully consider the theme of this morning.

Let me see if there's anything else in my greeting that I was missing.

Okay, today's study is actually a word study.

Today we're studying a concept or a word, and we're going to go through several scriptures and kind of flesh this out and make it relevant and practical in our lives.

Dear Father, you know I have no business standing here before your people, and yet I made a promise to you when I was 18 that if ever asked to share that I would.

Never before has opening your mouth and sharing been so important in this time of the world's history.

And so I ask that your words would be my words in this hour, and that every heart here and every heart listening through the waves of AudioVerse be careful in their study and their introspection and would allow the Holy Spirit to make changes.

So today's study this morning, or this is called Your Attention Please, Your Attention Please.

And I'll tell you exactly why this topic became relevant to me as we go.

And I know that this is 1 of the things that has become really popular.

It's just, boom, you flash up the verse on the screen.

But it's still important to know where your Bible is, right?

Where things are in your Bible, should I say.

So I still, even though it's gonna flash up on the screen, I wanna hear papers.

Turning your Bibles to Deuteronomy 11, verse 16.

And we're going to read here a very quick verse.

Take heed to yourselves, lest your heart be deceived, and you turn aside and serve other gods and worship them.

And it says, Watch therefore and pray always, that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.

Watch therefore and pray always." Next verse, Matthew 24 4.

Jesus is standing afar after leaving the temple for 1 last time, and his disciples try and encourage him and cheer him up with the side of the temple and Jesus of course Replies to them by saying take heed that no 1 deceives you take heed that no 1 deceives you Next verse.

And she loves Advent Hope, California, and every day she dreams about being back here, so who knows.

You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked.

And I think this may be our last, Colossians 2, verse 8.

Colossians 2 verse 8 says, beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.

I hope you guys are noticing a pattern or a thread going through all these verses.

I could literally have cited dozens, yay, hundreds more with the same theme.

Verse Peter 5.8, Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

Watch, beware, be vigilant, take heed, behold.

They're asking you to pay attention, Right?

So if you're talking to someone and you're expressing yourself clearly and interestingly and the other person's nodding their head and shaking and going, yeah, okay, all right, do you slap them across the face and say, hey, pay attention?

And so many verses in the Bible that are salient verses, that are important verses, have these words in them.

Because never in the history of this planet and our existence has your attention been so desired, so challenged, and at the highest premium possible.

And Christ knew our precious attention spans would be constantly threatened.

My message to you again is on practical Christianity.

I know this message is vital because as I was preparing this message, I have not been so challenged in my life.

Everything from simple, from phone call to family tragedy.

I know that my wife often tells me that I have the attention span of a five-year-old.
