You Can’t Sell It, If You Don’t Stock It

I think that the presentation we just heard is 1 of the most important ones you'll hear this whole weekend.

I want to thank Skip for bringing that to us.

We have a responsibility to heal that wound.

And pastors that are here, you do too, But mostly we're health care providers, we need to take the first step.

I know how hard that can be because some years ago I went to a local pastor in our denomination and I said, I'd really like to work with you.

I want to do some health evangelism with you.

I went to our conference president 2 years ago and I said, I'd really like to do health evangelism.

He said, well, we have 2 pastors in the conference that would be interested in that.

1 is, and he mentioned his name, and he was about 2 hours drive away from where I live.

The other 1 was the Conference Evangelist and we're working together now.

We're going to probably be doing a series together this coming spring, early spring.

Anyway, but healing the deadly wound is very, very important.

Not the 1 you're thinking of, but the 1 Skip talked about.

I appreciated our sister here that gave the talk about working with her pastor.

That's the most important thing we can do.

Well, I thought I'd give you a few case reports, and then talk about physician as an example.

Or, if you don't stock it, you can't sell it.

You know, when I grew up, I was in a rural town in Maryland.

That's on the east coast of the United States.

And in our town we had what was called a general store.

But in this general store you could buy a tractor, or you could buy a pair of boots, or you could buy a kettle for your kitchen, you could buy a lawnmower, you could buy whatever you wanted.

And you'd go in there and you'd say to Roger White, I'd like 1 of these.

And he'd say, well, let's see, I think I have 1 of those somewhere around here and the stacks went way up.

And he'd get a long pole, you know, and he'd be walking around and there was that straw hat you wanted way up there and he'd bring it down.

He stocked 1 of everything and he could sell it too.

And, you know, we all went to that store.

But if you don't stock it, you can't sell it.

In Desire of Ages, we have the story of the woman at the well.

And you think, why did Christ spend all afternoon with that 1 woman?

And to spend all afternoon with that 1 woman.

And Ellen White makes the comment that Christ never despised a one-person audience.

Some years ago, my brother called me up, and he said, Tim, I have a friend I'd like you to help.

I thought, Dave, what am I getting into this time?

He said, 1 of my friends is a diabetic and she's interested in changing her lifestyle.

So I talked with my wife and she said, well, maybe we can learn something too.

So after some long consideration we said, all right, tell her, Dave, that she can come on up and live with us for 2 weeks and We'll see if we can reverse her diabetes well needless to say we had to learn some new cooking We were vegan at the time, but I want to tell you, you can be a vegan and eat trash.

And we weren't real trashy in our diets, but I started reading some of Neil Barnard's work.

And you know, Neil Barnard got all his information from Weimar, in case you're interested.

He just happened to publish it and became famous for publishing Adventist data, but that's another story.

So we read that and we read some other things and then we started cooking.

And at first, I'll be honest, I thought I'd gone to Auschwitz.

You know, we had a learning curve on this food, but pretty soon we were doing better and this lady came up and her sugars, I mean, she said, well I haven't been taking my medicine for the last week because I'm getting ready for this lifestyle change.

Her sugars are running in the 300s and it's different for you.

She was 3 times normal, so it would be 21.

Okay, well, her A1C was running 11, so this wasn't just a week she'd been missing her medicine.

She was a nurse, you know, and the deal that I worked with her is I said, listen, we'll do this for you, but you've got to check your sugar before every meal and every 2 hours after each meal.

So that's a lot of finger pricking, but If you're willing to prick your finger that much, you can come on up here.

It was running about 170 over 95 when she arrived.

2 weeks later, her blood sugars were normal.

And her blood pressure had dropped to about 123 over 60, less than 2 weeks.

Well, we had learned a lot about how to cook things so the blood sugars and the blood pressures normalized.

We hadn't learned too much about taste, but you know, I figured that wasn't in the deal.

We were just supposed to normalize the sugars.

So, you know, after a while we started learning how to improve the taste.

And our sons were all off at college at the time, and we thought that was a good idea, because we wanted them to eat.

When they got home, they said, this was several months later, I remember 1 of them saying, we're not sure what you're doing with this food.

It goes to show you that if you work at this stuff, you can have really good tasting food.

So we were Now on a strict, vegan, no oil, no refined carbohydrate diet.

That's for people that you're trying to reverse disease.

And we've kind of gotten into this habit.

Yeah, we do a thing called lifestyle choices 4 times a year where we have 40 to 70 people come.

Actually, we started it 3 years before you came, but he helped us continue it.

The fun is inviting someone over to your home.

And so we've kind of gotten into that habit.

Just to show you that you can do this all on your own, I want to read an email to you that just came in a day or so ago while I was in Sydney.

We got this email, let me just read it to you.

This is from someone that came to our home just before we left.
