Jesus: The Revealer

Heavenly Father, I thank you so much for your love and mercy toward us, for your relentless pursuit of each 1 of us, your indefatigable love, Lord, the love that never wears out, that keeps you coming after us, that keeps wooing us and drawing us to yourselves.

And I just pray tonight that you would draw near through your Holy Spirit and speak to our hearts and our minds, give us ears to hear and hearts to respond.

You know, we've talked about a lot of the different aspects of the person of Jesus and we can't, 1 thing that we can't skip over is the perspective of Jesus as the revealer.

Jesus, the 1 who has foretold and revealed the future.

1 of the things that really is a key part of our experience, the Seventh Day Adventist, with Jesus is prophecy.

And it's Jesus who gave those prophecies.

I love to teach on and have taught quite a bit on the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation and other areas of Scripture.

And 1 topic, I thought to myself, how do you cover prophecy in 1 topic?

So God willing, we're going to go over all of Daniel and Revelation in 1 topic.

The Bible says, in Revelation 1 and verse 1, the Revelation of whom?

Of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to do what?

And who is the 1 who is showing you and me?

God the Father gave to His Son and His Son Jesus is revealing something to you and me.

Incidentally, that's why it's called Revelation.

And Jesus here is revealing to his servants those things which must shortly take place.

Now I want you to jump ahead here and I want you to see some interesting things here.

First of all in Revelation and then we'll go back to the book of Daniel.

As John encounters Jesus here in the book of Revelation, in verse 8 he hears Jesus saying, I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, Who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.

Now as the Lord talks to John a little bit in verse 12, John says, Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me, and having turned I saw 7 golden lampstands, and in the midst of the 7 lampstands, 1 like the Son of Man." Now notice the description.

"...one like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet, and girded about the chest with a golden band.

His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like what?

His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace." Now some translations I believe say burnished bronze.

"...and his voice as the sound of many waters.

He had in his right hand 7 stars, out of his mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and his countenance, that is his face, was like the sun shining in its strength." Now that's the description John gives us of Jesus as he sees the glorified Christ right here in Revelation chapter 1.

I want you to go back to Daniel with me, chapter 10.

Daniel has an encounter with a person, with a being that he refers to as the man clothed in linen.

He says, I lifted my eyes and looked, and behold, a certain man clothed in linen, whose waist was girded with the gold of Euphaz.

His body was like a barrel, his face like the appearance of lightning.

What was the description and revelation of the face, the countenance, Like the sun shining in its strength, a brilliant light.

His arms and feet like burnished bronze, that's bronze put in a furnace or brass refined in a furnace, and the sound of his words like the voice of a multitude." We read this in Revelation.

John says that the waters which you saw where the woman sits represent, does anybody remember?

Peoples and multitudes and nations and tongues.

Here in Revelation the voice was like the sound of a multitude.

Daniel describes this being as a man clothed in linen but his description fits the exact description of Christ in the book of Revelation.

The books of Daniel and Revelation, we've understood this as a people for a long time, are companion books.

I want you to see that as we continue on.

The vision of Daniel chapter 10 continues to chapter 12.

In Daniel you have 4 main vision sequences.

You have Daniel 2 vision, you have the Daniel 7 vision, you have the Daniel 8 and 9 counterparts, and then Daniel 10 through 12.

And so we're beginning here and he sees the description of the man clothed in linen.

Now we're going to go down to the end of this account in Revelation.

We're going to begin in Daniel 12 verse 4.

The command is given to Daniel, but you, Daniel, shut up the words and seal what?

Daniel, shut up the words and seal the book until when?

The time of the end, many shall run to and fro and knowledge shall increase.

Now don't confuse the time of the end with the end of time.

The end is a period of time before the end of time.

So the time of the end comes right before the end of time.

The time of the end ends with the end of time.

The book is going to be sealed up until the time of the end.

Well, it wouldn't do any good if it was sealed up until the end of time because then it would be the end of time and what good would it do anybody?

So seal up the book until the time of the end.
