Kingdom Culture

And I had originally just talked about doing a seminar about the organizational methods of developing a kingdom culture in businesses and other organizations and I felt impressed not to.

So I'm approaching the topic from a little different angle today.

So I hope that you will allow the Holy Spirit to engage you in this process and in this topic and that you will perhaps receive a blessing as well as some admonition from the Lord today.

There are lots of different types of culture.

And I tend to be interactive so I'm going to call on you to participate.

But what would you identify as worldly culture?

What else would you define as worldly culture?

So this is very much our North American take on what worldly culture is.

But if we travel to a different part of the globe, their view of what culture might entail and worldly culture by their definition might be a little bit different.

Think about culture in the context of your family.

What would you say the culture of your family is?

Do you have shared belief systems, values?

Do you have traditions that you participate in?

Well, like you said, you would hope that your family would have shared values.

You know, I mean, every now and then there's 1 that strays off but but you would hope that you know we use it the pattern and that they would choose to follow it.

And as far as a religious I'm thinking of a religious context of honesty other you know just general things.

Outside of the context of values, do you have family cultures?

Is there someone's house you always go to for Thanksgiving dinner?

Christmas, you do Christmas and we, our immediate family just picks names for the gift that they're going to give to that person.

Do you have a culture, anyone else have a cultural tradition in your family?

I think 1 in our family, I know this is different than other families, is that our dinner table talk is always how much was the time cost of what this cost you to do or whatever.

I guess other families don't do that because I found out that they don't value their time at $10 an hour, $5 an hour, $50 an hour.

Anyway, that's the thing we always did with our kids.

Now, did you start that or did your parents start that?

We have a culture of always eating together as a family.

And is that for every meal or 1 meal a day?

Oh wow that's beautiful that you've been able to do that throughout the years.

Anyone else have a culture in their family?

Interesting as you have culture in your family that your children marry.

And you know and like my daughter-in-law she'll tell me I can tell you my.

Every Friday night we should have fruit salad and that kind of thing.

You know because that's what he did at his home every Friday night before he had worship.

And so we just did fruit salad and you know whatever.

And So it carries on and you know what you do your children will carry on the culture into the next generation.

That's known as the Adventist culture of haystack.

So we've even gotten as far as not only a specific meal that's rather well known within Adventism, but as he said, even the order in which things are stacked, Dennis said, even the order of which things are put on.

Now another 1 to me, another cultural thing to me, is specifically what types of chips are used in a haystack.

So it's almost not worth the investment of my calories and chewing energy if it's not specifically what I want because I know that what it's not going to be satisfying it's gonna leave me wanting something that I didn't get different chips so we have to add that when she comes.

Yeah, so chips, the type of taco sauce you use.

We just got lost at the wedding reception.

So you can see culture really builds and there's a lot of shared values that go together.

We might have a little different take because I'm not gonna eat onions on my haystack so someone could have had mine.
