What You Desire Most

Beloved Father, thank you so much for allowing us to be awake and to be here this morning.

As we seek to listen to your voice, we ask you Lord that you may speak to us and through us this morning.

Once again, I ask you to hide me behind the cross.

That whatever that will come out of it may come from you, Lord.

Speak to us now, Lord, for we ask all these in your loving name, amen.

How many of us so far have received something better?

I believe that anyone who's born, I mean everyone, desires to have something better in their life.

I've never met someone who walks around saying, you know what, I want the worst for myself.

Except for people who want to commit suicide and even those people who want to commit suicide is because they believe that's something better for them at that moment, right?

So we are always driven by the desire to have something better in our lives And sometimes something better in our eyes might not be something better in the eyes of God.

And another danger is that we might come to the end of this weekend and we'll come out of here saying, I received something better.

But As I was studying my Bible, I learned that you can never be satisfied of receiving something better.

Every single day you wake up seeking to receive or to have something much better.

So this morning I'd like to invite you to turn with me to your Bibles, the book of Genesis, as we seek to understand and study the Bible and see how Eve and even Cain, they desired something better, but in the attempt of desiring something better, what they ended up with.

Now the key text for this morning is from the book of Genesis chapter 4, verse 7.

Now the Bible says this, If you do well, will you not be accepted?

And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door, and its desires is for you.

The title of the psalm on this morning is What do you desire most?

And as you read this text, As we seek to desire something else, you realize that even Cain, as God is talking to him, now we know the story of Cain, they are 2 brothers, and Cain is jealous of Abel, he wants to do away with his brother.

And God confronts Cain and is talking to him And he says, and I want to repeat this verse, he says to him, If you do well, will you not be accepted?

And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door.

As you desire for something better, somebody else or something else is desiring for you.

As you desire for something better in your life and you wake up every morning, you are seeking, you are searching, you are desiring something better, Somebody else somewhere is desiring something better out of you.

Somebody else somewhere is desiring your time, your obedience, your everything.

So you wake up saying, Lord, I want something better.

And the Lord looks at you and says, I want something better out of you.

And so does the devil say, I want something better out of you too.

So as Cain because Cain desired that the Lord blesses him as he had blessed Abel he desired something better and when he didn't receive that now sin desired him.

And so Cain is desiring something better and God talks to him and is warning him ahead of time and he says, and it's desire is for you, but you shall do what?

This reminds me another text in Genesis 3, verse 16.

The Bible says this, to the woman he said, I will greatly multiply, what?

Your desire shall be for your husband and he shall rule over.

See brothers we need to stop complaining why sisters are always all over our case.

Nobody say amen, even the brothers, Jesus knows.

But the Bible as you realize this, the desire of Cain, the desire of sin was over Cain, and you come even in Genesis 3, 16, you see the same same words that are being used there again.

But the question is why does God use these words?

Let us turn to Genesis chapter 2 chapter 3.

As we seek to study this story, we know this story very well.

And the Bible says, we get to begin from verses 1 as we build up.

Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field, which the Lord God had made.

And he said to the woman, Has God indeed said to you, you shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

And the woman said to the serpent, we may eat the fruit of the tree of the garden, but the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, you shall not eat, nor shall you touch it, lest you do what?

Verses 4, then the serpent said to the woman, you will not surely die.

For God knows that in the day you eat of it, your eyes will be opened and you will be like God knowing good and so what what the devil is saying what the serpent is saying to the woman is listen God is trying to hide something better from you are we together God comes to Adam and Eve and He says, you shall not eat from this tree, because if you don't eat, sometimes not doing it is something better for you.

You know, we think something better is constantly when you're doing something, but here God says, there's something better for you here is not to eat it.

And the devil comes and says, listen, do you know why God is saying this?

It's because God doesn't want something better for you.

Is there anyone who doesn't want to be like God?

After all, the Bible says we are created in the image of God, right?

So the devil approaches the woman, Eve, And he suggests something better to her.

And this morning to some of us, the devil has been suggesting something better to us.

Could it be that the devil has been suggesting that instead of waking up and spending time with the Lord, we sleep in and we wake up and do other things.

Could it be that the devil has been suggesting to you that instead of focusing in school you're focusing on everything else except for school that the Lord has called you to do right now.

Could it be that even today as the Lord has suggested to us that we need to live a certain way, we need to do things a certain way, the devil also is offering something else and he's saying this is much better than what the Lord has offered to you.

Each 1 of us this morning, each 1 of us, the Lord has offered something better to us, but also the devil is offering something better for us Question is whom do you desire most?

Let's keep reading Verses 5 verses 6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, it was pleasant to the eyes.

And a tree desire, man this is something better man.

This is something, I mean let's read again.

If you do poetry, just use your imagination.

Now, verse 6, so when the woman saw the tree was good for food, something better, right?

That it was pleasant to the eyes, beautiful.

She also gave to her husband with her and he ate.

See usually when you find something better, what do you do?

Eve comes to Adam and he's running, he's saying, listen, listen, I have something better for you this morning.

And Adam opens his arm, oh my dear, I love you, what do you have for me?
