Something Bettering

Our Savior, our Lord, we thank you Lord for bringing us here to ECYC.

Another conference, Lord, but I pray, Lord, that this will be a life-changing 1.

But as we explore the topic of something better, Lord, may we discover that for our own selves.

Lord, I want to pray that you please speak through me today as I share what you have done in my life and the joy that I have following you.

I want to ask that somehow some young person here that they'll be inspired and know that they'll learn to love you more and that they'll make commitments for you.

Some of you came from Montreal, long ride, hope you can focus.

I was raised actually with no religion at all.

But it was at the age of 8 where a pastor, a Korean pastor, came knocking on my mom's door in Scarborough.

And they started to canvass my mom certain books.

How many have ever read the Bible stories?

And how many have read Uncle Arthur's bedtime stories?

And how many of you have ever listened to The Bible and Living Sound?

It's kind of like role playing through sound.

And this man came knocking on my door, on my mom's door, and started canvassing her these books.

And these books have really enriched my life.

But I realized that there was more to being a Christian than just reading and learning about these interesting stories.

1 of the first things that changed when I became a Christian, well, we weren't really Christian, but when we first encountered the Sanctity of Adventist, was our diet.

All of a sudden, the white rice turned brown.

Yes, all of a sudden, my mother wouldn't buy us so much pizza anymore.

It's very interesting, because most of the Koreans in Toronto, they run what kind of business?

My father came to Canada with $35 in his pocket, but somehow he was able to run a convenience store.

And so, you know, eating a bag of chips, ice cream, and a chocolate bar every single day was routine for us.

But all of a sudden when this man came to my mother's door, all of a sudden things changed.

And my mother would prevent us from eating those things.

And I remember talking to my brother, I said, you know man, I wish this man had never come.

We can't have an ice cream sandwich anymore.

Sometimes we complain about the health message.

It says, while the children should be taught to control their appetite and to eat with reference to health, let it be made plain that they are denying themselves, only that which would do them harm.

They give up hurtful things for what's their theme?

You know, I complain about the health medicine stuff, but I recognize something.

Me and Daniel, we almost never got sick when we were young.

Almost never went to the doctor, except for just get those shots and stuff like that.

And I looked around, and all my friends were getting sick.

They had stuff growing on their face and all that kind of stuff.

And they didn't even hit puberty yet, and they're growing all this stuff.

I'm like, I realized that something was different.

And all my friends in the master's program, in order for them to keep themselves going through the day, they needed coffee.

If they did not have the coffee, they could not last a day.

So I realized very quickly, and of course, you start to do some research on the health stuff, And you realize that the Adventist health message is not just something out there.

And I realized looking back that the health message was truly a blessing in my life.

Let's turn the Bibles to 1 John chapter 3.

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health as your soul prospers.

Sometimes as young people we think that we keep the health message for our parents.

We think that we're keeping our health message for God, but God doesn't get diabetes, amen?
