Health Evangelism- A Teamwork In Action and How To Start

What do you think is health in your mind?

Well, being in your spirit body and mind.

Somebody else, do you have any definition of what is health?

Now, a lot of you heard that the WHO's definition of health, that it's not only not diseases, it's more than that.

And I think that fits very well with it, and this year you'll then review it.

Okay, I want to start with an illustration.

Let's do it like this this time as well yes and no so I would do it in the same manner as we did last time.

I don't know if you have as a child, normally a child plays with things, as a child have played with a magnet.

Have anybody played with a magnet when they were a child?

And you can do it, as on the picture here, with a permanent magnet.

And then you have pig clips, metallic pig clips.

And the funny thing is that when the paper clip attaches to the magnets...

You lost the music, but I'm glad I'm here.

No, but you don't need to change that at all.

So yes, when you play with a permanent magnet in paperclips, suddenly the paperclips become magnetic themselves and attract other paper plates.

And that's, I feel, is a very good illustration for how it is with Jesus and us.

As it says in Matthew chapter 28, verse 18 and 19, is that Jesus had got all the power.

And then he tells us, Go ye therefore out, and teach all the nations, and baptize them, and so on.

So Jesus is the magnet, he's the 1 that draws all men unto him, as the magnet draws the hippies.

And we as believers, we have got this magnetic field through us, and in that way we can attract unbelievers.

And 2 things we can learn from this illustration.

1 is that if we are not connected to the source, then we don't have any magic field to attract another people, another believers.

And other things, if you only are connected, if you were living this too far up, then the rest you see here, these ones, they were too far away.

So we need to be amongst the people to attract them to Jesus.

And you've already answered a little bit what is health.

So I'm just gonna tell a little bit of a background before we go into our experience with the health week.

Yes, we're going to look at 1 Peter 2, verse 9, that you see there.

And it says that you are the chosen generation, a royal priesthood, and a holy nation.

A Peculiar people that you should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into this marvellous light.

So the question is for you is if you were meeting somebody in town or at work or in school or something and they ask you, so what are you doing?

But maybe some pastors could be a little bit close to the definition, but normally we wouldn't think of ourselves as priests.

And for some maybe the name priest even has some bad associations connected to it.

So we are a little bit reluctant for this definition.

But What was the purpose of the priest in the Old Testament?

They were the mediators between God and...

Yes, a teacher, a priest, a teacher, a mediator, something more.

But if people had a medical condition, if they were sick, where did they go?

With leprosy for example, they went to show their hands to the priest to examine it.

So the priest was also involved in healing people.

So we see this threefold meaning of teaching, preaching and healing in the role of the priest in the Old Testament.

And of course the ultimate role of the priest was to reveal who Jesus Christ was, right?

And if we look at Matthew 4 and 23, it says that Jesus went about all Galilee teaching in the synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.

So again we see this threefold ministry of preaching, teaching and healing.

It's not a work of only preaching, it's not a work of only teaching.

Yes, welcome, we are Just getting started.

We are talking about the role of the priest and Jesus ministry here on earth and connecting it to what we are also called to do as priests.

Today we often have ministers that do preaching and teaching maybe, and then we have health professionals that do the healing part.

But as you can see, Jesus' ministry was a total ministry, a whole ministry of these 3 aspects.

There is a quote in Councils on Medication, I think, that says, Combine the commissioning work with the proclamation of the third angel's message.

So we are called to a combination of these 3, just as Jesus did, just as the priest did, and yes, perfect.

Very well, and then we're gonna look at what we're gonna, now we have done the introduction, what are we going to look into today?

So you've heard about us, you've had an introduction, and you're going to go into a little bit what health evangelism is really about.

And you're going to hear about the story of Steph's life, and The bigger part of course is going to be the successful health week and then we are going to see how we are a fisher of men in the end.

So let's go over for that, for what is health evangelism.

And we have done it with an illustration, so I hope you can follow along.

What we believe is that we have many different ways to reach people.

And The combination of these things, as we have had in the introduction, is when it gets strong.
