1 - How to Open up to Healing

And if you want to repeat phrase by phrase, and those of you in the viewing and listening audience may repeat and join in this prayer with us if you choose.

Behold, I will bring you health and cure, and I will cure them, and will reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth.

And if you'd like, I often just lay my hand on the text in token of gentle trust in the Lord.

And now I'll pray this prayer, phrase by phrase, if you'd like all to repeat together.

Dear Father in Heaven, We come to you through Jesus.

And we come asking And we come believing.

And we thank you that we are receiving, to the fullest extent of your infinite love and wisdom.

In the gospel, teaching and healing are never to be separated.

Jesus united them completely and altogether throughout his entire ministry.

If you'd like to open the Bible with me to Acts the 10th chapter and the 38th verse, let us read this again together, Shall we?

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power, who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil, for God was with him.

Jesus Christ tells us that the gospel is not just teaching, the gospel is teaching and healing.

The healing of the soul, the healing of the body, the healing of the mind.

In Isaiah the 53rd chapter and the fifth verse it says, with his stripes we're healed.

And it is true, as we shall learn later, that the full results of the atonement will not be realized until we are resurrected from the dead The redemption of the body you see is all involved in the atonement but healing and teaching belong together it did in the life of Christ and Jesus Christ is the same yesterday today and forever isn't he Hebrews 13 8 and so as we study together those of you in your homes those of us here in this family together, we're going to open our Bibles to Mark, the 16th chapter, verses 17 and 18.

He was just about to leave his disciples, and this is a promise that my wife and I have claimed again and again I'm sure that our pastor who is sitting beside me Pastor Verste has used this many times in his ministry also.

Mark 16 verses 17 and 18 shall we all read it together.

And these signs shall follow them that believe.

They shall take up serpents and if they drink any deadly thing it shall not hurt them.

They shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover.

I'm thinking right now of that lovely daughter of a Methodist minister that was lying in the hospital in a dying condition.

The death rattle was in her throat at that time and my wife and I claimed this promise and I still remember as we were claiming the promise we were saying to the Lord something like this, dear Lord we didn't think up this idea of laying our hands on this girl.

It's merely because we're followers of Jesus.

He said, you may lay hands on the sick and they will recover.

So as we were saying to the Lord, it's not our idea.

We have no we accept no credit whatsoever.

And we laid our hands on this precious little angel-like girl and we said Lord you've promised now we don't know at what time she'll get well we're not going to tell you what to do we're not going to command you Lord We're going to take hold of your willingness your eagerness because you love her and you love us and your wisdom far surpasses our puny a creaturely wisdom but dear Lord Jesus died for this girl.

And then gently we laid our hands on her and we said, Lord, if it may please you to rebuke the devil and the power of the devil on her, thank you for healing her.

And then we add these words and we make it a practice always to add these words to the fullest extent of your infinite love and wisdom.

You see that makes it a commitment, but it doesn't go around talking about it as though we didn't expect it.

It makes it a positive statement to the fullest extent of your infinite love and wisdom.

The death rattle left her throat immediately.

The next afternoon at 03:00, she sat up and ate and went home.

And I wonder, Damon and Mary Lou, would you sing a stanza of that song?

This is my favorite of all the songs in all the hymn books.

And then I think in the book that we're singing from, it's 276, isn't it, Pastor?

And after the Imman and Mary Lou sing the first stanza, we will join with them, if you'd like, and those of you in the audience, in the viewing audience, the listening audience, may want to unite with us on the second stanza.

I Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine.

For Thee, of the follies of sin I resign.

My gracious Redeemer, my Savior, Lord, love.

I love thee because thou hast first loved me, And purchased my pardon on Calvary's tree.

I love thee for wearing the thorns on thy brow, And you'll notice that third stanza, and I'm wondering if Dottie would join Mary Lou and Damon in singing that third stanza a moment.

I'll love thee in life, I'll love thee in death, I'll love thee as long as thou lendest me breath.

This shows the commitment in our hearts as we're praying for healing.

We're not trying to put him in his place.

We're merely taking advantage of his wonderful eagerness and his extreme willingness and whether we live or whether we die we'll be praising him.

Me in death, and praise thee as long as thou lendest me breath, and say when the death when the death do lies cold on my brow.

If ever I loved thee, my Jesus, it is now.

Let us all, including the audience, sing the last stanza, shall we?

In mansions of glory and endless delight, of glory and endless delight.

I'll ever adore thee in heaven so bright.

I'll sing with the glittering crown on my brow.

If ever I love Thee, my Jesus, to His mouth.

I want to tell you that represents our hearts.

Now, we want you to notice with us and the viewing audience, the listening audience also, who is authorized to pray for the sick.

We just read in Mark 16, 17, 18, these signs shall follow them that believe.

You know, there are a lot of people in the world today who have the impression that the only individual who has the right to pray for the sick is an ordained minister.

2 - How to Forgive Yourself

You have said, if we confess our sins, you are faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

So we come asking because you've bidden us to ask.

We come believing because you've told us to believe.

And we come claiming it as Jesus did at the grave of Lazarus.

I would like to have us to begin with at this special program to open to Micah the 7th chapter and the 18th verse.

And this we're dedicating to every heart that finds it difficult to believe that he's forgiven or she's forgiven.

And we're all going to read this 1 together.

Those of you out in the viewing audience, the listening audience may unite with us in this marvelous, marvelous verse.

In fact, we'll read the 2 verses, Micah 7, 18, and 19.

I'm going to give just another instant for those out in the radio land, the TV circle, to find their text with us.

Who is a God like unto thee that pardoneth iniquity and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage.

He retaineth not his anger forever, because he delighteth in mercy.

And thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

My friends, this text represents many, many other texts of scripture, which we want to share with 1 another here and with our audience.

Single-space typewritten letter that I read today.

It's of a lady that passed through all kinds of troubles from her earliest childhood up until she wrote the letter.

She had gone to church after church, various denominations and contradictory faiths all seeking for peace, for forgiveness, for happiness.

They were so deep that finally she said, I actually looked up in the face of God and I shook my fist in the face of God.

But she said, I'm happy to tell you Pastor Kuhn that God in his mercy, in his long-suffering, in his patience, after all that I'd said against him and to him he forgave me completely and the ten-page letter ended up with peace.

So we can say amazing grace how sweet the sound saved a wretch like me.

1 of my favorite songs, I think the next to my first choice, is the song in our hymnal, Blessed Assurance.

You might want to be looking at it for a couple moments as I share with you a couple other Experiences that we've had and then we're going to turn to the Bible for promises For any individual in the audience in the viewing audience in the listening audience who finds it hard to believe that God forgives.

I'm thinking of a lady that was in church at the close of 1 of my meetings and she came to my wife and me And we sat in that church for 2 hours straight, trying to convince her that God would still forgive her.

There was nothing that we could say, nothing that would convince her.

And so because of this, I want to share with you, and we'll all share together, a number of precious Bible promises, hoping that as we read these together the viewing audience as well as ourselves the listening audience as well as ourselves may know that we're reading the immutable, eternal, impeccable words of God, the words of forgiveness, the words of cleansing, and we have a right to take hold of these words and know that God who cannot lie has promised us forgiveness and therefore we also may forgive ourselves.

Would you threesome sing Blessed Assurance and we'll come in on the chorus.

This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long.

Mary Lou, would you sing that next stanza?

Perfect submission, perfect delight, visions of rapture now burst on my sight.

Angels descending bring from above echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

We're going to ask the viewing audience and the listening audience to sing that chorus again with us, everybody.

This is my story, This is my song, praising my Savior all the day long.

Mary Lou, you didn't expect I was going to ask this because we didn't rehearse, but you know, as you were singing Blessed Assurance, Something spoke to my heart and said, she has blessed assurance in Jesus.

And that's the assurance that we want everyone to have.

And Donnie, by the way, friends, this is the pastor's wife.

As we look into your face, we believe you have blessed assurance.

And Damon, the twinkle in your eyes is the twinkle we want to get through to everyone that's doing this.

There is a blessed assurance in Jesus Christ.

He'd been a neighbor for many years, nearly 20 years, But now he was sick, sick almost unto death.

He knew he couldn't continue very many more months.

And I went up with him to kneel beside him and to pray for him.

And as I was There in his home sitting like we're sitting together.

I Have a great burden on my heart He said I've had this burden on my heart for many many years Perhaps Perhaps 20 years.

In fact, I think he said about 30 years He said I was divorced from my first wife Because of some indiscretion on her part But he said I never told anyone that I myself was also guilty.

And he said, this unconfessed sin has preyed on my soul for these 30 long years.

He said, do you suppose that the reason why I'm sick, the reason why I'm a cripple is because God never forgave me.

I said, brother, did you ask God to forgive you?

You have the blessed assurance, you have a right to accept that blessed assurance, that you're completely forgiven.

For Isaiah 118 says, and can we quote it together?

Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.

Though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

I don't know whether I shared with him an experience that I'd had.

I was flying from Los Angeles to San Diego, a very short flight, several years ago.

And as we still went up very high in the plane, high enough so as I looked out of the window, I thought, well I'll see some of the some of the of the earth pictures between San Diego and Los Angeles.

I saw nothing but that which looked like rolled wool.

And of course, that text in Isaiah 118, pastor Verste, came to me overwhelmingly.

I said, as the Lord looks down on us and he chooses not to see our earthiness, he sees nothing but the pure wool life of Jesus.

And as I looked, my heart just bubbled over in gratitude to the Lord.

3 - How Frustrated Minds Find Peace

Our Father in heaven, thank you so much that we can turn our eyes upon Jesus.

You've told us in Isaiah 9, 6 that he's a wonderful father, everlasting father, the mighty God, the everlasting Father and the Prince of Peace.

And Lord, as we study this together, how frustrated minds can find peace, thank you for the presence of your Holy Spirit.

Thank you for the wisdom you've promised in Jesus' name.

The Bible says in Acts the first chapter and the first verse, and you might want to turn with me and we'd read it together, it's speaking of Jesus and his ministry.

And the thing that has led me to suggest this text to begin with is I walked into a church 1 morning for a meeting and I saw a fine-looking gentleman there and I said, Are you the pastor?

He said no I practice and I said you're not that that's good.

And so we'll read it here in Acts chapter 1 verse 1 The former treatise have I made O Theophilus of all the things that Jesus and all of us together will read the rest began both to do and to teach.

You know, they speak of physicians as practicing.

In the world in which we live, in the Christian world in which we live, you know there's a common philosophy that we're to come and listen but do nothing about it.

Maybe, I think your church family is so large and really so beautiful, I imagine they're all practicing what you present, Pastor Verste, but I found a general tendency on the part of all of us, myself included, to walk into a church, I hear a man speak, it's more like a public speaker, you know, we're tempted to approve of certain things and disprove of others and maybe when we get home to kind of discuss it like we discuss a public lecturer, you know, and the lecture, instead of realizing that religion is something to practice.

And so we are going to share with you at this hour and all of us together a practice some specific practices so that frustrated minds may find peace.

First of all we have just read in Isaiah 9 6 that Jesus is the Prince of Peace.

In the 14th chapter of John and the 27th verse, if you'd like to turn with me, we'll read that Jesus wants to share this with us.

Would you all like to read this with us together?

Not as the world giveth, give I unto you.

Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Now you'll notice there are 3 specific statements here.

1 is, he said, I leave my peace with you.

It's a divine peace coming directly from the Lord to us.

And he said now he said let not your heart be troubled So it's evidently within our power to fix our mind on Jesus or fix our mind on trouble.

I like the way my favorite author stated in that beautiful book education page 297 Says 1 wants the gaze is fixed upon Jesus Life finds its center.

Oh how I love that when once the the gaze is fixed upon him Life finds its center.

So I I'm recalling to in 2nd Chronicles the 20th chapter perhaps you turn with me and read this also 2nd Chronicles the 20th chapter and it contains the story of Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah.

It tells us about how several kings had united in a determination to blot Judah out of existence.

We won't go into all that detail, but as they came against Judah, the king saw there was no hope whatsoever.

Now he had the privilege either to fix his mind on the negatives.

Here are why these people are like the sand of the sea in comparison with us, just a little remnant.

Shall we read it in verse 12 of 2 Chronicles chapter 20 together?

For we have no might against this great company that cometh against us.

Neither know we what to do, but our eyes are upon thee.

Now you see, he did what Jesus later said in so many words, let not your heart be troubled.

Again in John the 14th chapter you remember he said let not your heart be troubled because you believe in God now believe in me.

So it's up to us to fix our mind either on negatives, on the problems, on the disappointments of life, on the shocks that have come to us, or we can fix our gaze on him who is wonderful, counselor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace, Isaiah 9 6.

Yesterday in our special family get-together, We quoted from that beautiful book, the Ministry of Healing, page 247, and I was sharing, you recall, how that 31 years ago as I read that particular series of statements, what it did to me, it said the sick should be patiently and kindly yet earnestly shown how the whole being may be thrown up open to healing agencies, the whole being.

Now we mentioned yesterday how the being may be open to forgiveness because guilt destroys the soul.

It destroys our fellowship, our connection with the Lord.

Now the whole being is the soul and the mind and the body.

1st Thessalonians the fifth chapter and the 23rd verse mentions a 3.

Now I said how am I going to open my mind to healing agencies?

To throw my mind open to healing agencies there are many things that I should do.

I should fix my mind on the optimistic things of life.

I can't fix my mind on the optimistic things of life exclusively at all times unless I have set Jesus before me as Psalm 16 8 says.

He is at my right hand so I shall not be moved.

So we can either choose to keep our gaze fixed on Jesus, his love, his power, or we can fix our mind on the negatives.

In that same book, Ministry of Healing, page 253, I have observed several series of statements that have, they have meant very much to me.

It says if we will fill our hearts with praise and gratitude to Jesus for all his blessings, It says the tongue cannot describe, the imagination cannot depict the blessings that will flow in physical and mental and spiritual healing if we just if we just think of his blessings and begin to praise him and thank him and rejoice in him.

So I said, all right, that's what I'm going to do.

Many of you have heard my experience of nerve exhaustion, where I was supposed to have been in bed or tied up, laid up for 6 months, and how I immediately went into orbit around a Thanksgiving program.

I never dreamed that as a minister of 25 years at that time, I never dreamed it would be that difficult to take my mind off of the negatives and all the things that happened to me and put them on Jesus.

I was actually embarrassed, Pastor, verse 8.

I said, now I'm going to think about the qualities of Jesus and I'm going to thank the Lord for the qualities of Jesus and you know I couldn't think of 1.

I've learned this that when a person becomes full of self-pity he gets so fixed on on his mind gets so saturated with self-pity that he can't think of a thing good about the 1 who is full of goodness and truth.

And I said, Oh Lord help me, I'm a minister and I can't even thank the Lord for 1 good thing and finally the Lord came through with this.

You can thank him, he was kind to the children.

And I said, Lord, thank you that Jesus is so wonderful.

Now, this ability to praise the Lord all stems from the foundation fact of who the Lord is.

And Jesus is here speaking to his father and we're talking about life how to have life how to get out of our worries, you see, and find wonderful life.

John 17, verse 3, shall we read it together?

And this is life eternal, that they might know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent.

Would you like to put with that 1 Peter, and this was brought to me by the Holy Spirit just yesterday, I believe it was, and I was thrilled To notice how very simply the Holy Spirit has put this it's second Peter.

I'm sorry second Peter chapter 1 verse 2 Pastor verse day, maybe you would read it while the rest of us listen.

All right Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord Isn't that beautiful?

How will grace and peace actually be multiplied to us?

Through a knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord for a person to seek for peace to seek to get out of frustration without Gaining a knowledge of who this is that we can trust Jesus our Lord You see is emptiness to go around to people and say smile now smile smile over what?

But when I know that Jesus my Lord who has nailed a Calvary Works out everything for my good Romans 8 28 Because and I can know it because he hung on Calvary for me, Romans 8, 32.

Then I can really say, Lord, because of my fellowship in Jesus, I can rejoice and praise the Lord by the way, don't you folk have a song something about what a fellowship?

What a joy divine not superficial you see not transitory Thank you so much, And maybe we'll come in on the chorus.

My Redeemer, who has brightened all my ways, if I could tell his dying pain and pardon, I'm sure that men would make him theirs today.

Human tongue can never tell such love divine.

Come and know the joy and peace forever mine.

If you'd like to turn with me now to Romans the fifth chapter, it shows how in Jesus we can enter into this piece Because you see Satan wants us to to focus our gaze on our mistakes and all of this when we have a right to confess our sins as we mentioned yesterday and now notice how as we confess our sins and he forgives us and justifies us what happens to our thinking.

Romans chapter 5 verse 1 shall we all read it together.

4 - How to Sing Your Worries Away

Dear Lord, we have read in Nehemiah, the 8th chapter and the 10th verse, where it says, Be ye not sorry, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

Lord, we don't want to belong to any sorrowful religion.

We want to belong to the joyful religion of Jesus Christ.

And you've told us that song is a weapon that can always combat the evil 1.

Help us, Lord, to rejoice and sing and praise your name as we move toward the heavenly harbor.
