I'd like to invite you to turn with me to the Song of Solomon, chapter 8.

I don't know if you've noticed in the Bible that God makes some pretty high claims.

Some claims that if it was not God making the claim, it would be pretty outlandish and for sure totally impossible.

But we have the ability to credit God for His own Word, because with God all things are possible.

If we believed all that God's Word said, All that God claims for us as a people, all that God promises to do in us, we would be far advanced of what we are.

I speak for myself, but I'm not so far off in speaking for all of us, I'm pretty sure.

Now there's 1 thing that I would like to have of God today and I'm sure you all would like to have the same thing And that's love.

There's a lot of preachers who like to preach on love these days.

And they preach on love till we're blue in the face.

And they don't preach on anything but love until it's become pablum for the congregation.

And sometimes we don't appreciate that they don't give us something more to eat than what they're giving us.

However, I would like to make the claim myself this morning that what we're going to say about love this morning is going to be beyond anything we've reached so far.

We're looking at verses 7 in chapter 8 of Song of Solomon.

And the Lord has a chapter, or He has a book in the Bible devoted to it.

Well anyway, in verse 7 in chapter 8, it says, many waters cannot quench love.

If a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would be utterly condemned.

Now, God is painting a picture for us here about love.

He is not speaking literally in most of it, but he is talking about love.

And so he's picturing love as a delicate flame, something burning hot for another.

But just the same, this is what God is showing here.

And if you have God's love, it cannot be quenched if you dump the ocean on it.

Now it also says that love cannot be gotten.

You cannot have this love by anything that you can do, or by anything that you can give.

So obviously, God is trying to tell us that there is a love that only He can give us.

Would you like to have a love that cannot be quenched?

That you can have a fire burning in your heart that just doesn't matter what happens, it doesn't matter what kind of flood comes at you, it cannot be quenched.

In 1 Corinthians 13, verse 8, we don't have to go there.

We will go there a little earlier, but it says there that love never fails.

Now, we may have that kind of love apparently.

We're going to look at verse 5 in Romans 5.

Hope makes not ashamed because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

When we receive the Holy Spirit, we receive God.

When we receive God, we receive love that never fails.

Do you know that we're approaching a time of trouble?

We're approaching a time in history when we're going to have a great need of that love.

But do you know that in approaching this time of trouble, more people will lose love than they will gain love?

We've been looking at this verse several times, even during the evangelistic series that we had, and more than that since we've been looking at this verse.

And we're looking at verse 12 in Matthew 24.

And by the way, this is speaking about God's people.

It's not speaking about the world losing their love.

Because there are people out there who have no conscience, who are able to do to little children what this guy was able to do.

The minute I heard this thing on the radio, it was just yesterday of course, and I heard this thing go across the air, it was just like, oh no, not again!

What in the world is this world coming to?

And to see 27 people's lives snuffed out because some kid with a gun went on a rampage.
