Triumphant At Last

I'd like to invite you to turn with me to Matthew 28.

In Revelation 14 and verse 4, we all know, we're told there, we can read it, that the remnant, or the 144, 000, They follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth.

But it isn't talking about following the Lamb by faith in the most holy place of the sanctuary, although that is important and we need to do that.

It isn't talking about taking a trip to Palestine and walking the streets that Jesus walked.

Rather, it's talking about facing or experiencing what Christ experienced in this world below, and especially in the last days.

This is number 7 in the series of 7, So this is the last 1.

And this morning's talk is called Triumphant at Last.

Now, I understand I do some of these messages over here at Eden Valley and I do some of the messages over here in the church.

And so if there's some of you who'd like to have this little series, you can ask me for it, except the last 1 we'll have to ask Dale, because I forgot to bring my recorder this morning.

So we'll have to all get it from from Dale if we want the last message, which is this morning.

Had you turn Matthew chapter 28, and we're going to turn to verse 1 all the way to 7.

In the end of the Sabbath, strange way of saying at the close of the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulcher.

And behold, there was a great earthquake." Now, the way this is written, you get the impression that Mary and Mary were approaching the sepulcher when there was a huge earthquake.

And then it says, For the angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone from the door and sat upon it.

His countenance was like lightning and his raiment white as snow.

And for fear of him, that is, for fear of that angel, the keepers, the soldiers, did shake and became as dead men.

And the angel answered and said to the women, Don't be afraid, for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified, but he is not here.

He is risen, As He said, come and see the place where the Lord lay.

And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead.

And behold, He goes before you into Galilee.

There you shall see him, lo, I have told you so." I was reading this, and the thought that came to my mind as I'm reading it is trying to understand what the emotions might have been, what the feelings might have been, what kind of convulsion their feelings and emotions must have been going through when this is happening.

After all, both of these ladies, Mary and Mary, came to the sepulcher probably at heart quite devastated.

Oh yeah, 2 days earlier Jesus had been crucified, he'd been nailed to the cross, he was tortured, he was humiliated, he had been himself in abject despair, He died not seeing through the portals of the tomb.

And his followers, seeing all of that, thinking that he had been the Messiah, that he was going to overthrow the Romans, that he was going to succeed marvelously, happened to see all their hopes dashed to pieces right there.

Jesus was dead and He was gone as far as they were concerned.

And so here's this man in whom they had put all their hopes, and now he's dead.

And when He died, what do you think happens in the heart of someone who loses someone as near as Jesus was to them?

In the middle of it all, in the middle of all the darkness and the despair, the tragedy and the deep depression that's in their heart, there comes an angel.

And he comes with a glorious message, an amazing story to tell.

Jesus is resurrected, just like He said He would be.

You know, He said in 3 days I'm going to be resurrected.

And I'm just wondering and just thinking about this whole story, what happened in the hearts of these 2 Marys?

I mean, did they burst into tears when they heard it?

Did they fall on their knees and praise God?

I just can't imagine my emotions going from abject darkness to brilliant light.

I can't imagine my emotions going from deep despair to glorious bliss within seconds.

On the other front, of course, we have Satan thinking that he's going to keep Jesus a prisoner to eternal death.

The Jewish leaders join hands with Satan.

They don't know they're joining hands with Satan.

And in order to ensure that Jesus doesn't rise from the dead, they go to Pilate and they ask for a contingent.

I don't know if it says anywhere how many there were, but I get the idea there was quite a few soldiers guarding a grave so that a dead man does not escape.

Now, doesn't that strike you just a little funny?

How many dead men have ever escaped from a tomb?

Why do the heathen rage and the people imagine vain things?

The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together against the Lord, and against His anointed." Now who's that?

Then it says, "...he that sits in the heavens shall laugh." The Lord shall have them in derision." That is, He's going to hold them up to ridicule.

Apparently there's a time for derision, holding something up into ridicule.

Some things are actually quite laughable because sometimes people do things that are just absolutely idiotic.

Now I guess they don't know they're doing it.

We were talking this morning about evolution as opposed to creation.

Yeah, puny men go along with their tapes and their seals.

They're going to seal the tomb and they're going to keep the Lord of Glory in there.
