The Greatest Miracle Never Performed

It's a pleasure and a blessing to be with each 1 of you here.

For those of you who don't know, my name is Michael and I've been around the area growing up.

And recently, Norman, he asked me, he said, you know, would you think about coming to Avinhope?

I've always had a special, Avinhope's always had a special place in my heart.

And I have so much ideas and so many things that I want to accomplish here with together with the Ecom committee this year and we're so excited but This morning.

I want to talk to you in a sense from my heart I'm gonna be talking about a couple of different things If you saw the sermon title, it's the greatest miracle never performed And so we're going to go into that whole idea in a minute 1 thing I like about Advent hope is we're limited on time.

The reason is because I'm not a very long speaker Whenever someone says you have an hour to speak it kind of I get a little nervous because usually I think you know every anything I can say in an hour I can say in 30 minutes.

So this kind of fits perfectly here I can speak for about 30 minutes and I can get through my points And then we can all go ahead and remember the reason why we're here and that's to worship God more than anything else Not for we're not here for a certain speaker.

We're not here for the great song service We're not here for anything else other than to give God the glory.

Our most gracious Heavenly Father, I come before you as a sinner.

Lord, you know that on my own I can do nothing, that my heart is deceitful and wicked above all things.

And so I pray and plead that you please take away my heart take away this stony heart that I have and perform open-heart surgery Give me a heart of flesh Lord.

I pray that you do that to each person in this room as well.

I Pray that they realize that without Jesus.

We are absolutely nothing And so I pray that you please send your Holy Spirit.

May the people who hear my voice understand that it's nothing that I can do, But it's only Christ.

I pray these things in the most precious name of the universe Jesus Christ who died for our sins.

Amen Webster's dictionary defines a miracle a miracle as an extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs.

A lot of people, they hear the word miracle and they look through the Bible and they see Jesus or the apostles, Paul and Peter performing miracles.

But when we look at this definition we understand that it's an extraordinary event an event that could not happen naturally and It had to happen because of divine intervention in human affairs That's what makes a miracle a miracle.

I've had the privilege of experiencing several miracles in my lifetime.

When I was 7 years old, I think I was 9 years old, we were in the Philippines and There is a small missionary island there.

The population there is probably a couple couple thousand But the interesting thing is it's a hundred percent Muslim population in fact The Muslims who are there are the more of extreme Muslims who have, who believe in the idea that if they kill a Christian, they are allowed to go to heaven on a chariot full of virgins.

So there's been lots of different things there.

There's been snakes, there've been lizards.

Now the most interesting thing is when we were in the Philippines we had this container.

It was a 40 foot container, the type of containers you see when you go to a train stop and a train goes by and you see countless containers.

We had a container full of supplies for this missionary island.

Well, we got it shipped over there and we're in Manila the capital and the goal was to get it from Manila all the way to the southern area of the Philippines how in the world are we supposed to get all that stuff over there.

Now being small at the time I didn't realize the the magnitude of what was about to happen but I remember my mother and my father and other missionaries who we took on that trip they were going to see different delegates they were saying how can we get this over here?

And they are praying and doing different things.

Well, it turns out, days happen, weeks happen, and months.

And we still could not get these necessary supplies to the southernmost area of the Philippines.

Well, after phone call, after phone call, after prayer, after prayer, God opened a way.

And the way that He did it was so interesting.

The Vice President of the Philippines, so let's just think of Dick Cheney here, commanded Robert Gates, or you might more be familiar with the former Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld, a signed signature saying, give these missionaries a C-130 airplane.

Now, for those of you who don't know how big a C-130 airplane is, it's about 2 times bigger than a 747 jumbo jet.

It is yay big, it's yay high, it's really, it's a huge airplane.

And we were given this airplane to store all our supplies.

Now just the fuel from where we were to where we had to go was probably in excess of a couple hundred thousand US dollars and we're given that for free.

Now the thing is this, now there's a band of like 5 of us missionaries, 5 or 6, and there's a couple of kids.

How are we going to get all the supplies from this container all the way to the airplane.

It so happened that the Philippine government also sent about 40 Philippine soldiers to escort us and to carry this stuff for us.

When you're in the service of God, God does amazing things in your life.

Mark is known as probably being the earliest of the Gospels written.

Mark is also the 1 who is not a disciple.

An interesting thing about Mark is he was probably the youngest.

The Bible reads, And he called unto him the 12, and began to send them forth by 2 and 2, and gave them power over unclean spirits, and commended them that they should take nothing for their journey save a staff only, no script, no bread, no money in their purse." Here we have the disciples, a ragtag bunch of guys, no formal training, they don't know anything really about preaching, They're just following Jesus.

And it says, And they went out and preached that men should what?

Repent so here are these these disciples.

They had very small trailing They were following Jesus and here we see that they were given a message and that message was to what everyone repent If there's something that we need to understand, something about the first angel's message is we need to understand before anything else, we need to repent.

We need to see ourselves as for being wicked.

We need to see ourselves as being 1 who is in need of a Savior.

And so here we see the first message that the disciples were called to preach was to repent.

Going on, verse 13, And they cast out many, what?

Yes or no were the disciples performing miracles Yes, the disciples were performing miracles Now let's go on.

Let's see another miracle mark chapter 6.

We're staying in this chapter We'll be looking at it intently this morning.

And Jesus, when He came out, saw much people and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep, not having a shepherd.

And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far past.

Send them away, That they may go into the country roundabout and into the villages but buy themselves bread for they have nothing to eat Notice what Jesus answered he answered and sent it to them give ye them to eat.

You know what I love about Jesus He's not only concerned about our spiritual necessities, but he is concerned about our physical necessities Amen We see that Jesus is a God who loves us a 1 who wants he's first worried about your spiritual life But in addition to your spiritualized Philippians 419 says My God shall supply all your needs according to his riches and glory.

So we see here Jesus says, Give them ye to eat.

And they said unto him, Shall we go and buy 200 penny worth of bread and give them to eat?

He said to them, How many loaves have you?

And when they knew, they say, 5 and 2 fishes.

And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass.

And he sat down in ranks of hundreds and in fifties.

And when he had taken the 5 loaves and the 2 fishes, he looked up to heaven and blessed it, and broke the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them.

And the 2 fishes divided he among them all.

And they took up the 12 baskets full of fragments and of the fishes.
