Feed Them

Lord, I pray, Lord, that you would teach us this morning.

I pray that you will speak through me, penetrate through the hearts of your people, and I ask for your spirit to be with us this morning.

All right, so today's topic, oh okay, it's called Feed Them, as you can see.

So, pull out your Bibles and let's start at Luke chapter 11, verse 1.

And when you get it, just say, Praise the Lord.

So, it says, now it came to pass as he was praying in a certain place when he sees that 1 of his disciples said to him, Lord, teach us to pray as John also taught his disciples.

So what we need to understand first here is that Christ prayed a lot.

He had a lot of time where he spent time in prayer in solitary places.

And this is a particular situation when the disciples had a privilege to witness the prayers of Jesus, his solitary prayers.

He was praying, and they heard him praying.

And so they got to hear some of the things that he said.

And I mean, Can you imagine the Son of God praying?

And so his disciples saw him praying and they said, Lord, teach us how to pray.

We want to pray just as powerful as you do.

Okay, so Jesus repeats the Lord's Prayer.

And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done as in heaven, so in earth.

Give us day by day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins, For we also forgive everyone that is indebted to us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

So this is very important, what Jesus just said.

And number 3, this is the second time he said this prayer.

He gave this prayer on the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew chapter 6.

And his disciples asked him to teach, for him to teach them how to pray.

And he repeats almost exactly the same prayer that he said in the Sermon on the Mount, except For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever.

And we're gonna run through this pretty fast because this isn't the theme of what we're talking about.

So what we think about when we read that, our Father in heaven, it's a little bit obvious God is our Father, right?

White says, The very first step in approaching God is to know and believe the love that he has to us.

For it is through the drawing of his love that we are led to come to him.

So the first thing we need to recognize is that God loves us as a father loves his son.

But more than that, we need to understand God's love for us when we initially come to pray.

So if he is our father, we are his children.

So that means that we are to represent his character.

Because okay, a good example is anybody know who Michael Jordan is?

You're gonna expect that they can at least shoot, at least put the ball in the basket once, right?

So if he is our father, then we are his children.

White says, but if you call God your father you acknowledge yourselves his children to be guided by his wisdom and to be obedient in all things knowing that his love is changeless.

And this 1 I really like particularly, Jesus is our big brother.

Because Jesus, he gets on his knees and he says, our Father.

But he says our Father, so he identifies himself with us.

So God is our Father, we are his children, and Jesus is our brother.

And if Jesus is our brother, then everybody sitting next to you is your brother and sister.

Though he is our father, he is also our God.

So we need to come to God with reverence, right?

So we come to God, we get on our knees, right?

We're talking to God, so He's our Father, but there is respect, There's reverence.

And more than that, not just getting on your knees and bowing your head, but understanding that you are representing his name to the world.

A little bit like the Michael Jordan example in that When you go to work, people see you and you are a representation of Jesus.

So you may be the only Jesus that they get to see.

When you pray, hallowed be your name, you ask that it may be hallowed in this world, hallowed in you.

And I put these pictures up here because, You know, we have all these t-shirts now, you know, I love Jesus, you know, my brother, he has his shirt, it's called 1844, the Great Controversy.

So, you know, it's just kind of like that.

You're walking, when you go to work, you're walking with Jesus' name written on your shirt, right?

And when you pray, hallowed be your name, you are asking his love to be represented in you to everyone you come across.

So you want Christ's kingdom to come, right?

So you are actively engaging in the expansion of his kingdom and the hastening of his second coming, Right?

So we're out witnessing, we're active, so we're praying for the Lord to give us strength, praying for the Lord to use us to expand His kingdom, which is at hand right now, and to hasten His soon return.

And then this 1, I love quotes so you guys are gonna have to get used to it.

Only those who devote themselves to his service saying, here am I, send me to open blind eyes to turn men from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God that they may receive forgiveness of sins and inheritance among them which are sanctified.

They alone pray in sincerity, thy kingdom come." So we have a burden of the souls of our brothers and sisters on our hearts, right, when we're praying this prayer.
